    Obituary:
Diane E. (Kopitzke) Otto, 67, New London, Wis., passed from her earthly body to her heavenly home on Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, after a long, valiant struggle with lung cancer. Diane was born April 29, 1941, on Avon Street, New London, to Maeferd and Vernice (Huebner) Kopitzke. Blessed with a Christian Lutheran education, Diane attended Emanuel Lutheran School, graduated from Fox Valley Lutheran's third class in 1959 and attended DMLC in New Ulm, Minn. The endearing friends along the way have remained close. Diane felt privileged that the grace and mercy of God allowed her to teach fifth grade at First German in Manitowoc for five years. On July 25, 1964, the 49th anniversary of her fraternal grandparents, Diane married Russell R. Otto. Diane taught another year at Fairview Lutheran, Milwaukee, (grades K-4) before becoming a stay-at-home mother, raising Kay, Karin, Russell, Jr. and Kristine.
To her day care, God led other very loving children who learned games, cards, the love of being read to, singing and about Jesus and the Bible. Diane was a charter member of Ladies Evening Circle and served as president and secretary. She also taught Sunday school as a teen and later when a grandmother. Diane loved playing cards and games, hearing or telling a good (or bad) joke and spending time with people. She blessed all with her unique sense of humor and quick wit. It was her faith and amazing ability to love and see only the good in those she loved that will be missed by family and friends.
In December, 2004, lung cancer required the removal of the lower right lobe. It wasn't until mid-May of 2007, that chemotherapy began and continued until January of 2009. Diane surpassed all expectations during this long struggle and rewarded all her loved ones with one last, wonderful holiday season. She fought hard; she fought fearlessly.
Diane is survived by her mother, Vernice; husband, Russ; daughters, Kay (Gary) Swick, Kimberly; Karin (Vernon) Schirpke, New London; and Kristine (Shannon) Glenn, Appleton; grandchildren, Bailie and Brice Swick; Heather, Holly, Ashley, Austin, Autumn, and Hailie Schirpke; Sammantha Otto; and Kellan and Nevan Glenn; step-granddaughter, Dessiree Allen; great-grandchild, Keylee Schirpke; siblings, Donna Hoffman, Appleton; Douglas Kopitzke, Darboy; Daryl (James) Kuehl, Stevens Point; sister-in-law, Karen (William) Baehr, Kaukauna; and brother-in-laws, Gary (Barbara Ostermier) Otto, Homewood, Ill.; and Chet Lyons, Northport.
She was preceded in death by her father, Maeferd; son, Russell Otto, Jr.; grandson, Justin Swick; in-laws, August and Leona Otto; sister-in-law, Debra Lyons; and grandparents, Albert and Minnie (Below) Huebner and Arther and Elsie (Hedtke) Kopitzke.
The funeral service for Diane will be at held at Emanual Lutheran Church in New London on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Marcus Schultz officiating. Friends and family may call at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be at the Ostrander Cemetery in Northport in the Spring.
The family would like to thank Dr. Bar-Lev, the caring hospital and Hospice staffs, Ladies Aid, the Emanuel Lutheran clergy and all her loving, devoted friends.
Caring, humorous, generous...missed but at peace. The queen bee has departed the hive for her eternal home.
