    MRS. KATHERINE SCHWAB DIES IN GREEN BAY Mrs. Katherine Schwab, aged 73, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nicholas Wirtz, Green Bay this morning death being due to old age. The remains will arrive here at 9:45 this evening, the funeral to be held at 9 o'clockFriday morning from the St. Joseph's church. Besides her daughter she leaves two sons, Joseph and Louis of this city. For fifty-five years Mrs. Schwab made Appleton her home, she having left here two years ago to reside in Green Bay

    Biography:
    CHARLES STEIDEL, a prosperous young hotel landlord at Stephensville, Outagamie county, was born in the town of Greenville, Outagamie Co., Wis., August 25, 1862. His grandparents were natives of Germany, and were prosperous farmers in that country.

    The Steidel family is noted for its longevity. The grandfather on the mother's side lived to the ripe old age of ninety-two years; the paternal grandfather was a soldier in the German army, and fought against Napoleon. Joseph Steidel, father of our subject, was an only son with one sister, and was born in 1819, in Germany. He received a good education in his native country, the public schools there being the best in the world. His father being a farmer, he was reared as one, remaining at home until 1856, when he came to America and located at once in the town of Greenville, Wis., where he purchased thirty acres of land. It was heavily timbered, and the work of clearing was most difficult, demanding much patience and perseverance; but he conquered in the end, and on this parcel of ground erected an hotel, the first of its kind in Greenville. This business proving very profitable, he continued to follow it for ten years, when he received an adventageous offer to dispose of the property, which he accepted, and then moved to Ellington in the same county. There he bought eighty acres or timbered land, and after clearing, erected buildings and prepared to cultivate the soil for crops. There he remained until 1892, when he removed to Appleton, the county seat. For twenty-six years he tilled the soil, and his pains-taking thrift and careful attention to the minutiae could not but bring success. He was a temperate man, a useful neighbor and citizen, and an honored member of the Roman Catholic Church.

    In 1841, while still in Germany, he was united in marriage with Miss Annie Klais, who was born in 1822, and they are parents of ten children, as follows: Anton, now a resident of Appleton; Katharine, now the widow of Wenzel Schwab, of Appleton; Barbara, widow of Henry Schoomer, of Milwaukee; Joseph, of Appleton; Wenzel, who died in 1886, aged thirty-four years; Annie, now Mrs. John Boedzel, of Appleton; Tressey, who married Bernard Neucomb, who was born in 1857 and died in Stephensville, Outagamie county, in 1885; Andrew, who died in 1879, at the age of nineteen years; Charles our subject; and Frank, of Appleton.

    Charles Steidel received a good common-school education in the public schools of Appleton and Ellington, and remained on the farm with his father until he was seventeen years of age, at which period of his life he began working in the woods. This occupation he followed for ten years, or until 1889, when he purchased the property which he now occupies in Stephensville, where he is engaged in the hotel business. He had been unusually successful in life, and, being courteous and genial, he makes an excellent landlord, having become widely known throughout the country; his hospitality is unquestioned and his patronage increases as the years go by. On May 2, 1893, Mr. Steidel forsook bachelorhood and became a benedict. The lady of his choice was Rosa Feldschmidt, daughter of Sebastian and Annie (Huber) Feldschmidt, who came to the United States from Germany and settled in Greenville, Wis., from which place their daughter was married. Mrs. Feldschmidt was born February 17, 1829, and died June 11, 1892; she is buried in Greenville cemetery; Mr. Feldschmidt was born on December 9, 1829. They were parents of seven children: Mary, who married Anton Kneiszel, of Antigo, Langlade Co., Wis.; Annie, married to Ferdinand Huettel, of Dale, Wis.; Augustie, now Mrs. Charles Raess, of Antigo; Joseph, of Ashland, Wis.; Sebastian, of Appleton; Robert, of Shiocton, Wis., where he keeps a hotel; and Rosa, wife of our subject. Mr. and Mrs. Steidel have one child, a little daughter, Adalain. Both the Steidels and the Feldschmidts for many generations back have belonged to the Roman Catholic Church, and are most loyal to their religion. Mr. Steidel, in business, is shrewd and cautious; his judgement is excellent, and he rarely fails in making a good bargain, while observing the strictest honesty in all his dealings with his fellowmen. His friends term him a "hail-fellow-well-met," and in appearance, as well as in action, he is a typical German landlord.

He was born March 26, 1870, in Appleton and was a retired employee of the Kimberly-Clark corporation. Schwab was a charter member of the St. Joseph society of St. Joseph Catholic church. > Funeral services will be at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning at St. Therese Catholic church with burial in St. joseph cemetery.     FUNERAL WILL BE HELD FROM ST. JOSEPH'S CHURCH WEDNESDAY MORNING Miss Anna Schwab, of this city, died yesterday at the Northern hospital. Death was caused by epilepsy, from which Miss Schwab suffered for some time. She was 34 years of age. The body arrived in this city this afternoon at 2:10 o'clock and was taken to the home of Joseph Schwab, 785 Atlantic street. The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock from St. Joseph's church, with interment at St. Joseph's cemetery. Miss Anna Schwab was born in Ellington, but had lived in Appleton nearly all her life. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Catherine Schwab, by one sister, Mrs. Mary Wirtz, of Green Bay, and by three brothers in this city, Joseph, F. W. and Louis Schwab."

    Miss Anna Schwab Succumbs to Long Illness Appleton, Wis., Monday, Nov. 26. The death of Miss Anna Schwab of this city occurred yesterday morning at 2 o'clock at the hospital at Oshkosh, where she had been for the past three months. Miss Schwab was 35 years of age. The funeral will be held Wednesday forenoon at 9 o'clock from St. Joseph's church in this city and interment will be made at St. Joseph's cemetery. The body was brought here this afternoon. Deceased was born in Ellington and moved to this city with the family early in her girlhood. She had resided here ever since. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Kate Schwab; one sister, Mrs. Mary Wirtz, of Green Bay; three brothers, Joseph, Frank W. and Louis M. Schwab, all of this city.

    WENZEL SCHWAB DIES THIS MORNING Wenzel Schwab aged 38 years, died this morning at 5 o'clock at his home, 1075 Lawrence street after an illness of five years duration with tuberculosis and a complication of diseases.     Obituary:
    Junior J. Koester, age 85, of Menasha, passed away on Friday, February 15, 2013, at Rose Grove, Peabody Manor in Appleton. On December 16, 1927, Junior John was born in Appleton to the late Walter and Irene (Steidl) Koester. He served honorably in the United States Army. Junior was united in marriage to Mary J. Jakubek on May 13, 1950 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Menasha. Koester Quality Beverage was a company that Junior owned and operated for many years. He also worked for Banta as a pressman until his retirement in January of 1988. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and following retirement, mowed the grass at St. John Cemetery for many years, which was something he really enjoyed.
    Junior will be missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary; their children: John (Alice) Koester, Ann Wied, Mark (Barbara) Koester, Sue Smith, and Alan (Kim) Koester; his grandchildren: Carrie (Gerry) Breit, Cory (special friend, Nikki) Koester, Adam (Staci) Wied, Scott (fiancé, Shauna) Wied, Keith (Buffy) Wied, Kaycie Wied, Rebecca (John) Groff, Gina Koester, Dan (Sara) Koester, Erin Koester, Amanda Smith, Nicole Willes, Kurt (special friend, Tami) Smith, Laura (Tim) Stuebs, Ryan Koester, and Mikayla Koester; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Carol Jakubek and Ernie Jakubek; and other family members and friends.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, two sisters, many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
    A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 am on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 516 De Pere Street, Menasha, with Fr. Paul Paider officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until the time of the Mass at the church. Interment will take place at St. John Cemetery in the Town of Menasha. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.

    Evelyn E. Hameister of Greenville, age 92, died January 14, 2014 at Brewster Village. She was born June 16, 1921 in Greenville, daughter of the late Charles and Minnie (Geske) Steidl. Evelyn married Harold Hameister on August 25, 1945. He preceded her in death on March 31, 1999. Evelyn was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Appleton.
    Evelyn is survived by a nephew, Tom Steidl; two special cousins, Ethel Steidl, Brewster Village and Carol Steidl Beattie, Homestead, Florida. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other friends and relatives. Evelyn was preceded in death by an infant son, and three brothers.
    A Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00AM, Monday, January 20, 2014 at Brewster Village Chapel, 3300 Brewster Street, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Brewster Village.
    Evelyn's family would like to thank every one of her caregivers, "from the bottom of our hearts, you were angels, one and all."

    Robert L. Jacobs, 88, Appleton, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at Cherry Meadows. He was born on Jan. 20, 1923, to the late Leonard and Helen (Schwab) Jacobs in Appleton. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II.
    Bob married Beverly Shackelford on June 11, 1946, at St. Therese Catholic Church in Appleton. He worked for Wisconsin Electric as a customer service expeditor, retiring in 1986. He was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church serving on the Board. He was also a volunteer for the St. Elizabeth Auxiliary and was named Volunteer Emeritus for his efforts. Bob also was the Town of Menasha Clerk from 1961-73 and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post #38.
    He is survived by a son, Jeffrey (Betty) Jacobs, Arizona; two daughters, Karen (Tony) Weinandt, Menasha; and Lori (Rick) Jacob, Appleton; seven grandchildren, Kim Jacobs (Alain Briere), Amie (Dan) Cisneros, Stacy (Josh) Berman, Tony Weinandt, Jr., Craig (Rachel) Jacob, Philip Jacob and Kasey (Bryan) Bailey; five great-grandchildren, Chloe, Josh, Jr., Halle, Aryanna and Addisyn; a brother, Donald (Lucille) Jacobs, Menasha; two sisters, Nancy (Wayne) Peterman, Appleton; and Barbara (Alan) Schelfout, Onalaska, Wis.
    Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bev, in 2000; sisters, Marjorie Jacobs and baby Carol Jean; and two brothers, Eugene and Richard.
    A Mass of Resurrection for Bob will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Menasha, with the Rev Paul Paider officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home with a prayer service and military honors at 7 p.m. There will also be visitation at church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass.
    A special thank you to the staff of Prairie Homes and ThedaCare at Home, especially Mary, for their compassionate care of Bob and his family.
    A memorial fund is being established.
    Dad, We will miss your infectious smile that everyone loved so much. You have touched so many lives through your endless hours of volunteering. I couldn't have been prouder to be your daughter when we went to your auxiliary banquet in 2008 where you were given the Emeritus award for 13,629 hours of volunteering. Your bread, cookies and pies were always a treat to be enjoyed by all, even winning you the "#1 baker award."     Neenah - Donald A. Jacobs, age 93, of Neenah, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2018. He was born July 5, 1924, in Appleton, son of the late Leonard and Helen (Schwab) Jacobs. Don "Jake" graduated from Appleton High School Class of 1942.
    Don proudly served in the United States Army, 465th Amphibian Transportation Co., Pacific Theater, during World War II. Upon discharge in January 1946, he went to work for his father and Uncle John at their new business, "Jacobs Brothers Meat Market" on Lawe St. in Appleton.
    Don married Lucille Weyenberg on June 25, 1946 at St, Therese Catholic Church in Appleton.
    Don is survived by his wife, Lucille; daughters: Donna (James) Schumacher, Sally Erdman, Linda (Howard) Abel; sons: William, James (Dar), and Brian (Paula); 24 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and sisters: Nancy (Wayne) Peterman and Barbara (Allan) Schelfout.
    Don was preceded by his brothers: Robert, Eugene and Richard; sisters: Carol Jean, and Sr. Mary Paula (born Marjorie Helen); and son-in-law, Jon W. Erdman.

    Jacobs, Sister Mary Paula
    Sister Mary Paula Jacobs of the Holy Cross, age 76, of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully Tuesday night, December 9, 2008, in the Franciscan Courts. Sister Paua was born on September 11, 1932, in Appleton and given the name Marjorie Helen in Baptism. She was the daughter of Leonard and Helen (Schwab) Jacobs, both of whom are deceased. Sister M. Paula was one of eight children: four boys, (Robert, Donald, Richard and Eugene) and three girls, (Nancy, Carol Jean and Barbara). Her memory will be cherished by her two brothers: Robert and Donald; her two sisters: Nancy and Barbara. When Sister Paula was five years old, two of her brothers, who were next to her in age, drowned at the same time and two years later her second youngest sister died in infancy.
    Sister Paula always felt drawn to be with and for the poor, and she desired to become a social worker and this desire was never to leave her. She then decided to become nurse, and entered the School of Nursing in Oshkosh. Sister entered the community of the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother on January 3, 1951, at the Motherhouse in Milwaukee. She became a novice on August 12, 1951, and took her first vows in 1953 and her final vows in 1958. Sister celebrated her Silver Jubilee on August 15, 1978, and her Golden Jubilee on September 24, 2000.
    Sister Paula began ministering as a nurse at Mercy Hospital in Oshkosh. She served as Surgery Supervisor in Estherville, IA, in 1957. Sister then served as Supervisor and Administrator from 1957 to 1965, both in Oshkosh and Port Washington, WI. She held many positions in SSM hospitals in Marshfield and Stevens Point, before taking her CPE training in La Crosse. From then she served as Chaplain in Rhinelander, WI, then on to Sokaogan Chippewa Reservation in Crandon, WI, from 1993 to 1998. Sister also served two terms as Assistant Provincial of the Milwaukee Province from 1976 to 1986. She became the Local Community Leader at St. Clare in Broken Arrow, OK, and ministered to the Sisters here from 1999 to 2005. Sister Paula then retired to SSM Franciscan Courts on June 26, 2005.
    During her life, Sister Paula represented the Community on the Board of Directors of SSM Ministry Corporation, on the Good Samaritan Health Center in Merrill, WI, and the National Association of Catholic Chaplains. She was also chairperson of the Pastoral Care Directors' Network. Although Sister Paula retired, she kept actively involved in many of these and other organizations and served on several Communit Committees.
    A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, December 12, 2008, in the Chapel of Franciscan Courts, 815 S. Westhaven Dr., Oshkosh, with Rev. William Kuhr as celebrant.     Linda Lee (Golden) Sternhagen, 62, passed away peacefully with her family by her side after a very courageous battle with breast cancer on July 11th, 2007. Linda was born on October 20th, 1944, in Green Bay, WI, to the late Patrick and Blanche Golden (Berken). She graduated from De Pere in 1962. She married Ralph L. Sternhagen on May 22nd, 1965, at St. Francis Xavier Church in De Pere. He preceded Linda in death on September 20, 1982. Linda loved life, and fought so hard to stay alive. Linda's favorite thing in life was spending time with her five grandchildren (Ian, Jackson, Jayden, Grace, and Javon). Linda also loved to read, take walks, go to Packer games and family ballgames, and go to movies and concerts. She especially enjoyed getting together with the whole family and she was usually the first to arrive and the last one to leave.
    Linda was a stay-at-home mom for many years. During that time she volunteered at Highlands Elementary School and was very active in her children's lives. Linda then worked for many years at Prange Way (Appleton) and then spent the last 10 years at Office Max (Appleton). Linda was so looking forward to her retirement days, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in late April 2006.
    Linda will be deeply missed by her son, Dean A. (Kim) Sternhagen, her daughter, Kara A. Sternhagen, and her grandchildren, Ian, Jackson, Jayden, Grace, and Javon. Linda's siblings were a constant and important part of her life and she will be sadly missed by Dr. Daniel (Jeanette) Golden, Rockville, Md;, Maureen Appleton, Green Bay; Michael (Cathy) Golden, De Pere; Patty (Michael) Skiffington, Ashwaubenon; Mary Beth (Steve) Becker, De Pere; and Teresa (James) Fridland, De Pere.
    Linda is further survived by aunts, Colleen Simon, Green Bay; and Eunice Brennan, De Pere; and their families. She was also a very special Aunt and will be missed by Paul, Andrea, Amber, Heather, Lindsey, Lawton, Nicholas (Melissa), Mark, Andrew, Eric, Emily, William, Patrick and John, her Godchild. Cameron Miller was also her Godchild, and was very dear to her heart.
    Linda will also be missed by Ralph's brothers and sisters, Donna Williams, Mark (Margie) Sternhagen, Appleton; Kathy DeGrave (Dennis), Florence; Craig Sternhagen (Julie), Appleton; Laurel Weyenberg, Neenah; Carla Kyllolen (Frank), Sherry Pingel, and Dawn Mills (George) and their families.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister-in-law, Betty (Don) Groth, Minnesota.
    She is further survived by many special friends, neighbors, and co-workers.
    Linda's family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at The Heritage, Peabody Manor (Pine Creek), and Appleton Medical Center for their wonderful care during Linda's most difficult times. Also, our thanks to our many friends and relatives, for their kindness and caring especially during these final months.
