    Obituary:
McHugh, John Wayne - John Wayne McHugh, Bakersfield, Calif., and formerly of Green Bay, passed away in Weaverville, Calif., on Jan. 24, 2005. John was a young 64 year old. He was born in Green Bay, on July 17, 1940, to Lawrence and Mamie (Ducat) McHugh. In 1963, John struck out on his own, leaving many friends and family and moved to his beloved Oregon where he began his career in roofing. In 1982, he moved to California where he continued his roofing career until the early 1990's. He then worked for Kern County, California Park and Recreation Department as master groundskeeper for several parks and hospitals until he retired in 2002. After retiring, he became a free-spirited traveler and gold miner on the California, Oregon and Colorado rivers. Even though he lived in California, he was an avid Packer fan and had a large collection of Packer memorabilia. John was down to earth and was liked by all who knew him, especially for his happy manner and infectious laugh and will be sadly missed by family and friends.
John is survived by a daughter, Angela McHugh, Oregon; a son, David McHugh, Arizona; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty (Derrald) Peeters and their five children, Mike, Tom and Randy Peeters, all of Green Bay; Scott Peeters, Branson, Mo.; Jeff Peeters, Suamico; Mary (Nathan) Carlson and their two children, Eric (Linda) Carlson, Orlando, Fla.; Michelle (James) Shallow, Suamico; many great-nieces and nephews. John is further survived by aunts, uncles and cousins in Green Bay, California, Oregon and Illinois.
Preceding John in death was his partner of 15 years, Jan Heinz, who shared his interest in gold mining.
Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. There will be a Parish Wake Service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral cortege leaves for church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Jude Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Ingold officiating. Burial will be in Allouez Catholic Cemetery.
