Obituary:
Norbert O. "Nubs" Kappell, of Appleton, age 74, passed away on December 26, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. Nubs was born October 25, 1931 in Appleton, the son of the late Harry and Ruth (Hamilton) Kappell. He married Lee Dombrowski on October 27, 1951, at St. John Catholic Church in Menasha. He served in the U.S. Army and Air Force. Nubs had been a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Combined Locks. He had been employed at Menasha Corp. for 39 years, retiring in 1992. He also drove for Elite Limousine of the Fox Valley, L.L.C.
Nubs loved going to the family cottage in Townsend where he enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, word searches and the computer. He was an avid cribbage player. Nubs had been a member of the Nicolet Council Knights of Columbus 1838 and the Knights of Columbus 4th degree Assembly 1192, (Honor Guard) Allouez. He also was a member of the American Legion #1338 of Appleton, the Papermakers local #201.
Nubs is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Lee; his children: Norbert "Butch" (Maria) Kappell, Pembroke, Fl; Diane Kappell, Appleton; James Kappell, Neenah; Dean (Michelle) Kappell, Neenah; and Jeanne (Barry) Jadin, Appleton; 11 grandchildren: Justine, Lynette, Jennifer, Trina, Eric, Jason, Andrew, Lydia, Joe, Marlynn and Peter; six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son Joseph in 1983, and his mother-in-law Jennie Dombrowski Cobus in 1989.
Memorial Mass for Nubs will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2005, at 12 noon at St. Paul Catholic Church, 410 Wallace Street, Combined Locks, with Father Bob Vandenberg officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Margaret Cemetery, Neenah. Friends and family will be received at the church on Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until the hour of the memorial mass.
The family would like to give special thanks to Chaplain Calvin Rayburn, Father Bob Vandenberg, Dr. Scott, Dr. O'Brien and Dr. Bruder, the ICU, Heart and Lung Unit, Emergency Room staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital, and the staff at Laemmrich Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
