    Arthur C. Mathes Route 2, Kaukauna Age 73, passed away at 7:30 a.m. Monday after a short illness. He was born in Woodville Nov. 11, 1886 and lived there until moving to Kaukauna three years ago. He farmed in the Woodville area most of his life. Mr. Mathes is survived by his wife Viola; one daughter, Mrs. Delmar (Ruby) Richter, Brillion, one son Har vey, Van Alstyne, Tex: two brothers, George, Hilbert; Jacob, Chilton, two sisters; Mrs. John Sands, L'Anse, Mich.: Mrs. Rudolph Schwalenberg, Kaukauna; 10 grandchildren, one great- grandcild. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday at St.John Lutheran Church, Woodville, with burial in the parish cemetery. The Rev. Elwood Habermann of Mt.     Lucille R. Powers, 98, passed into the loving arms of her Savior on Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at Century Ridge, after a short illness. Lucille was born in Hilbert, Wisconsin, on December 23, 1910, daughter of the late George and Henrietta (Schwalenberg) Mathes. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Hilbert. Lucille was united in marriage to Edward Powers on June 2, 1951, in Washington. They resided in Portland, Oregon, where Lucille was employed at Jantzen Clothing for many years. Lather they moved to Bend, Oregon. Ed preceded her in death on March 2, 1986. Lucille later retired in Sun City West, Arizona, where she was very active at the Senior Center making crafts and socializing with the many friends she made in Sun City. In 1999, Lucille returned to the Chilton area to be near her family. Lucille is survived by two stepdaughters, Pauline Peotter, Portland, Oregon, and Carolyn (Jerry) Haller, Bend, Oregon; one brother-in-law, Harry Strandt, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews: Ronald Schmidt of Chilton, Darlene Koehler of Chilton, Martin (LaVerne) Schmidt of Chilton, Harvey (Lou Ann) Schmidt of Chilton, Delbert (Joan) Schmidt of New Holstein, Eileen (Glenn) Beers of Seattle, Washington, Richard (Audrey) Schmidt of Chilton, Alan (Margaret) Krueger of Jasper, Georgia, Roger (Diane) Krueger of Crivitz, Jim Mathes of Hales Corners, DuWayne (Gail) Mathes of Onalaska, Virginia (Jerry) Dohr of Menasha, Rita Mathes of Hilbert, George (Gloria) Mathes of Green Valley, Arizona, Stan (Kathy) Mathes of Fond du Lac, and Mary (Jerry) Pagel of Chilton.     Schwalenberg, Rub en A.Ruben A. Schwalenberg, Oshkosh, entered eternal life on Saturday, Februa ry 25, 2006, at Manor View - Evergreen Retirement Community of Oshkosh. Ru ben was born June 7, 1918, in Calumet County, Wisconsin, the son of the la te Rudoph and Amelia (Mathes) Schwalenberg. On February 1, 1942, he marri ed Ruby Pautz at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hilbert. He was employ ed at the AAL Insurance for Lutherans (Thrivent) for forty years, retiri ng in 1982. Ruben was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Appleton - he w as a Sunday School teacher for over twenty years, a member of the Gold en K Kiwanis, and was the beloved "Tin Man" at Appleton Medical Center's Y ellow Brick Road-Wizard of Oz program for the kindergarten children.He is survived by his wife and best friend of 64 years, Ruby; his cherish ed two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and John Groth, of Platte City, M O, and Carol and David Hinshaw, of Oshkosh; five dearly loved grandchildre n, Julie (Rod) Newberry, of Acworth, GA, Paul Groth and his fiancee Kia ya Elfter, Jeni (Jason) Brewer, of Kansas City, MO, Emily Hinshaw, of Chic ago, Ill., and Amanda Hinshaw, of Oak Creek, Wis.; He had a special love f or his five great grandchildren, Lauren, Brandon, and Joshua Newberry, Acw orth, GA, and Trinity and Khyler Brewer of Kansas City, MO; a sister-in-la w, Ardis Picard, and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Luella Federwitz, a nd his twin sister, Ruth Duchow.Funeral services for Ruben will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 2, 200 6, at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 601 East Glendale Avenue, Appleton, with Re v.     Harvey A. Schmidt, age 87, of Chilton, died on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at the Chilton Care Center in Chilton. He was born April 3, 1927 in Chilton, son of the late Martin & Leona (Mathes) Schmidt.
    Harvey proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953 until 1955. Following his discharge, he married Loa Ann Steinmetz on June 17, 1959 at the Chilton Presbyterian Church.
    He had farmed in the Town of Charlestown until his retirement when he began driving for the New Hope Center in Chilton. He was a member of the Chilton American Legion and Trinity Lutheran Church in Rantoul where he had served on various boards in both the church and school.
    In his free time, he enjoyed time spent hunting and trapping, and also bowling with friends.
    Survivors include his wife: Loa Ann; his children: Julie (Bill) Kocourek of Brillion, Lori (Jayson) Monroe of Winneconne; 3 grandchildren: BreeAnn Schmidt, Jordan Monroe & Elijah Monroe; 4 siblings: Darlene Koehler, Delbert (Joan) Schmidt, Eileen (Glenn) Beers, Richard (Audrey) Schmidt; a sister-in-law: LaVerne Schmidt; and a brother-in-law: John Karls. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers: Ronald & Martin Schmidt; 2 sisters-in-law: Betty Karls & Beulah Portmann; and a brother-in-law: Elroy (Delores) Steinmetz.
    Funeral service will be at 11:30 am on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Rantoul (N6080 West River Road, Hilbert, WI). Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on Saturday, November 1, 2014.

    Darlene Koehler, age 86, of Chilton, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2014 at Chilton Care Center. She was born on June 18, 1928, in Charlestown, the daughter of the late Martin and Leona (Mathes) Schmidt. Darlene was involved on the family farm in Charlestown for over 40 years, and also owned the Chilton Downtowner from 1975 until 1981. Darlene worked at the Chilton Care Center for 18 years, starting in 1985 and eventually becoming a CNA, fulfilling her dream to care for the elderly in a very loving and compassionate way. She had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and offered good Christian advice to many. Darlene was a member of the Brillion Community Church, and Eagle Club in Chilton. The smell of homemade bread and cookies baking in her home will also be missed.
    Darlene is survived by her children: Barbara Steudel, Larry (Sue) Koehler, and Robert (Lisa) Koehler; daughter-in-law Susan Koehler; grandchildren: Jill Koehler; Luke (Bobbie) Steudel and Lorraine (Daniel) Flores; Jeremiah Koehler, Rhainnon Koehler, and Katie (Mitch) Fowler; Brittany Sack, Tyler (Jessica) Sack, and Mattece Charlton; six great grandchildren; siblings: Delbert (Joan) Schmidt, Eileen (Rev. Glen) Beers, and Richard (Audrey) Schmidt; and sisters-in-law Laverne Schmidt and Lou Ann Schmidt. She is further survived by special friends, Kay Hechel and Jane Hertel, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
    Darlene was preceded in death by her son Lloyd Koehler, daughter Sandra Koehler, and brothers, Ronald Schmidt, Martin Schmidt and Harvey Schmidt.
    The funeral service for Darlene will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME TRI-COUNTY CHAPEL, 1592 Oneida Street in Menasha. Rev. Sam Timm will be officiating. Inurnment will take place at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Rantoul. The family will receive relatives and friends from 9:00 am until the time of service.

    Martin R. "Marty" Schmidt, age 76, of Chilton, died on Thursday, December 9, 2010, at the Homestead Care Center in New Holstein. He was born August 9, 1934, in the Town of Charlestown, son of the late Martin & Leona (Mathes) Schmidt. He married his best friend and soul mate, LaVerne Geiser on October 17, 1956, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton. During his lifetime, Marty worked at the Hillside Cheese Factory for 25 years; in 1972 he moved onto his father's farm until his retirement. During that time, he had also worked at Chilton Manufacturing for 15 years. He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, formerly St. Martin Parish of Charlestown. Marty enjoyed playing Sheepshead; it was long thought the reason he went to work every morning was so that he could play cards at lunchtime. His other passion was the Green Bay Packers; Marty followed the Green and Gold from the days they played at the old City Stadium. He loved being a grandfather and was so proud to have great-grandchildren. He always made sure to be as involved as possible in their lives because they were so special to him. Marty also treasured his faith; he read the Bible very frequently and took great comfort in reading and listening to God's Word.
    Survivors include his wife: LaVerne; children: Duane (Dawn) Schmidt, Cynthia Kilgas, Timothy (Pat) Schmidt, Gregory (Deb) Schmidt, Kevin (Yana) Schmidt; 17 grandchildren: Benjamin (Ann), Brandon (Brooke), Zachary, Joshua, Justin, Chelsea, Joshua, Holly, Taylor, Christian, Sarah, Rebecca, Danielle, Steven, Samantha, Daniyil, Nika; six great-grandchildren: Trae, Olivia, Ariana, Marlie, Drew and Evan; four brothers; and two sisters.     He was a member of Ebenezer United Church of Christ in Chilton.
    Survivors include his wife, Susie of Chilton; a daughter Jill Koehler of Chilton; 2 grandsons, Bradley Clayton Juckem & special friend Megan, Lee Arthur Koehler; a sister Barbara Steudel of Appleton, 2 brothers, Larry (Sue) Koehler of Chilton, Robert Jr. (Lisa) Koehler of Chilton; and a close friend Jeff.
    He was preceded in death by a sister Sandy Koehler.
