    Obituary:
    Jack D. Conner of Sparks, Nevada passed away at his home on Thursday, September 19, 2002. He was 73. He was born in San Francisco, Calif. on March 21, 1929.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Dorothy Conner of Oroville, Calif. He is survived by his four children, Douglas Conner of Winnemucca, Nev.; Tara Wittenberg of Sparks, Nev.; Robert Conner of Corvallis, Ore.; James Conner of Elko, Nev.; and three grandchildren, Robert, Sara and Andrea. He is also survived by his brother, Roy Conner of Oroville, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    As a young man in Oroville, Calif., Jack worked in the family jewelry business. While still a resident of Oroville, he was very active in the National Guard and served as Company Commander of his unit for which he was very proud. He was given the distinguished honor of "Man of the Year" through the Chamber of Commerce for his efforts on the the Marysville flood of 1955.
    In 1956, he moved his family to Carson City, Nev., where he ran another family jewelry store, Conner's Jewelers. Jack was active in the Catholic Church and served as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Sierra Madre chapter. Also to his credit, he became the first president of the Carson City Chamber of Commerce, president of the Sertoma Club, and a member of the Rotary and Optimist Clubs.
    Jack moved to Beaverton, Oregon in the early 1970's where he worked for the Zale Corporation and eventually became the manager of one of their guild stores, Zell Bros. Jewelers. This is where he retired.
    A private memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at Mountain View Cemetery.
    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association, Reno, Nev. Chapter.
    Mountain View Mortuary is in charge of local arrangements.
