Obituary:
Susan Kay Toonen, age 70, of Appleton, passed away on her birthday, Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Rennes Assisted Living and Rehab. Susan was born in Appleton, on January 16, 1946, daughter of the late Francis and Thelma (Kluge) Schuldes. She was a 1964 graduate of Xavier High School. On August 22, 1975, Susan married the love of her life, Thomas Toonen. They would go on to share 40 years of marriage.
Susan loved gardening, reading and arts and crafts. She also enjoyed going to the cottage on Sawyer Lake. Above all, she cherished the time she spent with family and friends, especially Friday fish frys.
Susan is survived by her husband: Thomas Toonen; her daughters: Tammy (John) Friestrom, Tracy (Brad) Nutting, and Nicole Toonen; a step daughter: Shelly Van Dehey; grandchildren: Tyler (Fiancée Lauren), Eric and Alesha Friestrom, Kimberly (Fiancé Andy) and Alison Nutting, Grayson Toonen, Adam (Trisha) VanCuyk, Karissa Felsing, Michael and Brandon Van Dehey; and great grandchildren Ella, Carter, Camryn, Caydance and Caliyah. Susan will also be missed by her siblings: Mary (Joe Spitz), Kaye (Dave) Henning, and Kathy (Jim) Riley; brothers-in-law: Bob (Kathy) Toonen and Dick Toonen; sister-in-law: Barb (Marty) Mottl; also nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, including special friends Judy and the late Bob Hawkins. She was preceded in death by her parents Francis and Thelma Schuldes; in-laws: Thomas and Viola Toonen; and brothers: Dick and Gene Schuldes.
The funeral service for Susan will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 537 N Superior St. Appleton, with Pastor Debra Sim officiating. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Online condolences may be expressed at www.wichmannfargo.com.
