    Obituary:
Dr. Tiedemann, Russell - Russell G. Tiedemann passed into eternal life on November 23, 2015 at the age of 84. He was born in Kimberly, WI on October 29, 1931 to Arthur and Viola (Breier) Tiedemann. He married his high school sweetheart, the former Irene Peerenboom, on August 23, 1952 and they remained happily married for 63 years. Together they had 4 children - Patricia Tiedemann (Greg Shavlik) and Katherin Dax (Ken) both of DePere, Susan Tiedemann(Paul Schlindwein) of Wausau, and Russell Tiedemann (Ellen) of Watertown. He has 9 grandchildren-- Maren and Jim Mueller; Eric and Evan Springer; Sawyer, Addison, Ted, and Talia Schlindwein; and Jurenth Tiedemann. In addition to his wife and children, he is further survived by sisters Carol Lamers of Little Chute and Sharon Puckett of Florida; step-grandchildren Paula(Ted) Krueger, Jeff(Sandi) Dax, and Heather(Kevin)Haase as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Russ received his bachelor's degree from UW- Oshkosh, his master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado-Greeley, and his doctorate in education from the University of Utah.
Russ began his career as a teacher and coach at Hortonville High School and then continued at Rhinelander High School. In 1965, he became a teacher and basketball coach at UW-Oshkosh. In 1968, he became the head baseball coach at UW-Oshkosh and continued in that position until his retirement. During that time, he achieved a win-loss record of 473-157-2. His teams reached the collegiate world series 10 times-- finishing 2nd in 1987 and 1988, 3rd in 1973 and 1981, and 1st in 1985. During his long career, he received 6 hall- of -fame inductions, including induction into the American Baseball Coach's Association Hall of Fame. He was named NAIA Coach of the Year in 1974 and the NCAA Coach of the Year in 1985. He was a Red Smith Award recipient and also coached the USA baseball team in the 1974 Friendship Series in South Korea and Taiwan. In 1988, the baseball field at UW-Oshkosh was re-named Tiedemann Field in his honor. Despite his many awards and successes, Russ drew his greatest satisfaction in positively influencing the lives of the young people he taught and coached. He didn't remember scores, but he remembered all of his players.
Outside of teaching and coaching, Russ belonged to the Big Brother organization, and he mentored a young boy of whom he was very proud-- David Gaylor, who went on to graduate from the US Air Force Academy. Russ loved spending time at his cabin on Robert's Lake in Wabeno, WI. He was an avid fisherman all of his life. He owned a place on Whitefish Lake in Canada where he spent many weeks fishing with his children and grandchildren. He loved history and traveling and teaching his children and grandchildren the lessons of life. He was a deacon in his church and had an unshakeable faith in the Lord. Happy Thanksgiving in heaven to a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, teacher and friend.
The family would like to thank the staffs at Primrose Retirement Community, Aspirus Hospital, TLC Homecare, and Wausau Hospital Kidney Care for their compassionate care of Russ in his final months.
The celebration of Russ's life will be held on Monday November 30, 2015 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ at 426 Washington St., Wausau, WI. Visitation is from 10:00-12:00 with a service at 12:00. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
