    Born in Marquette, MI on Dec. 18, 1926 Died on Jun. 6, 2008 and resided in Marquette, MI. Cemetery: Holy Cross Cemetery Please click on the links above for locations, times, maps, and directions. Donald Edwin Sendek, 81, of 1530 W. Ridge Street, Marquette, died Friday afternoon, June 6, 2008 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette. Mr. Sendek was born on December 18, 1926 in Marquette to the late Alex and Hulda (Kallio) Sendek. Don was drafted into the U.S. Army Signal Corp. toward the end of World War II and proudly served his country from March 27, 1945 through November 26, 1946. After returning from the service, Don married his wife, the former Arlene "Poppy" Desormier on May 13, 1949 in Marquette. He retired from Ameritech in 1982 as a test technician after 35 years of service with them. Don loved living in the U.P. In his free time he enjoyed reading and woodworking. He could fix anything. He was a member of Marquette Elks Lodge #405, the Michigan State American Legion and St. Peter's Cathedral. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Don is survived by his wife, Arlene "Poppy" Sendek of Marquette; two children, Loren (Kathy) Sendek of Kiva and Catherine Sendek of Milwaukee; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Sendek of Neenah, WI; four grandsons, one great granddaughter and a brother-in-law, Bill Desormier of Marquette; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death besides his parents was a son, Gary M. Sendek in 1996. Don's family would like to thank Dr. Jim Heron and all of the staff at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans for their kindness and consideration. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Mr. Sendek's memory to the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans Activity Fund, 425 Fisher St, Marquette, MI 49855.
