    Biography:
    G. H. DeWALL, who is well known to the traveling public as the proprietor of the DeWall's Hotel, in Black Creek, Wisconsin; was for many years engaged in agricultural operations in the vicinity of his present residence. He is a native of Germany, born February 26, 1855, a son of Frederick and Johannah (Shroeder) DeWall, who came to America in 1871 and settled in Outagamie county, Wisconsin, in 1874. Frederick DeWall, who followed farming throughout his active career, died in 1905, while his widow still survives, making her home in Black Creek, at the remarkable age of ninety-four years.
    G. H. DeWall was the youngest of his parents' five children, and he accompanied the family to the United States, when he was sixteen years old, his education being completed in this country. He remained on the home farm, assisting his father, until he had reached the age of twenty-one years, and then started to farm on his own account on forty acres of wild land in Seymour township, Outagamie county. He resided there for three years, and then traded this property for forty acres in Black Creek township, and during the eighteen years following, he continued to reside here and to add 127 acres to his tract. This he sold in 1899 and bought two acres in the village of Black Creek and forty acres just outside of the village limits, and he has continued to hold and operate this property to the present time. On April 1, 1905, he purchased the hotel he now owns, and moved into it at once, and since then he has made this one of the most popular hostelries of this section.
    In 1875, Mr. DeWall was married to Miss Amelia Melchert, who was born June 5, 1857, the youngest of a family of seven children, and a native of Outagamie county. Eight children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. DeWall, of whom seven now survive, as follows: Louisa, who married Frank DeWall, now residing in Appleton; Matilda, who married John Prevey, living in Black Creek, having had five children; Frank, who is married and living in the town of Cicero, having two children; Emma, who married Charles Myer, residing in Black Creek village, the mother of two children; Elmer, who is married and has one child; Edward, of Black Creek, who is also married and the father of one child, and Margaret, who is single, living at home. Mr. DeWall is a republican in politics, and he is now a member of the township board of trustees. With his family, he attends the Lutheran church.

    MISS BERNICE DE WALL Miss Bernice Adeline De Wall, 22, 930 W. Packard street, died at 4:30 this morning after a year's illness. Born Dec. 17, 1915, in Appleton, she lived here all her life. She was formerly employed as a clerk at the Albert Gipp grocery. She was a member of the St. John Evangelical and Reformed church, the choir, and was a Sunday school teacher. Survivors are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. George De Wall; one brother, Marvin: the grandmother, Mrs. Adeline Schultz, all of Apple- ton. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 Wednesday afternoon at Wich- mann Funeral home and at 2 o'clock at St John Evangelical and Reformed church with the Rev. A. Guenther in charge.     Gladys (DeWall, Schabo) Brum, 91, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 29, 2009, surrounded by her family at Rennes Health Care. Gladys was born on April 1, 1917, in the village of Black Creek, daughter of the late Elmer and Frances DeWall. She married Robert Martin Schabo on October 28, 1936, sharing 27 years together before his passing on January 30, 1963. On June 17, 1967, she married the late Louis Brum and shared 13 years before his passing on April 18, 1980. Gladys was a lifetime member of First English Lutheran Church. She dearly loved her family and spending time with them. She also loved camping trips, reading, fish frys and the Packers (Brett Favre).
    Gladys is survived by her children: Donald (Pat) Schabo, Carol (Francis) Sturm, Larry (Terry) Schabo, Robert (Judy) Schabo, William (Pam) Schabo, David Brum, Kay (Michael) Gunther, Mark (Kitsie) Brum and Lori (Mark) Poitras; brother, Larry DeWall; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law: Leonard and Marion DeWall; sister and brother-in-law: Leona and Ervin Schroeder; sister-in-law, Olga DeWall; brothers-in-law: Harry Schabo, Lester Schabo and Lloyd Witt.
    Funeral services for Gladys will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 2, 2009, at First English Lutheran Church, Appleton with Rev. George Detweiler officiating. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park. Visitation for Gladys will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the church.
    A very special thanks to Rennes Health Care for all the love, support and kindness they have extended to Gladys and her family during her stay there.

    Emro J. Plamann, age 69, passed away peacefully at Appleton Health Center on Wednesday, June 23, 2010. He was born November 4, 1940, to the late Emro W. and Caroline (DeWall) Plamann. He was a graduate of Fox Valley Lutheran High School, and worked many years with Boldt Construction and Menasha Corp. Emro was an avid sports fan, playing and coaching for the Nichols baseball team for over 30 years, and he always looked forward to every Green Bay Packer game. In 1961, he was united in marriage to Sharon Krull. He loved his wife, his children, and his grandchildren and looked forward most to time spent together as a family.
    Survivors include his wife Sharon of 48 years, three children: Michelle Plamann, Dan Plamann, and Tracy (Pam) Plamann; seven grandchildren: Jesse Goerl, Tyler, Chad and Ashley Plamann, Breann Riehl, and Kaden and Teagan Massey-Plamann. He is further survived by four brothers: Jerry (Barbara) Plamann, Kay (Nancy) Plamann, Jon (Julie) Plamann, Mike (Janet) Plamann, and one brother-in-law, Robert (Deloris) Griffiths; four godchildren: Terry Plamann, Jerry Krull, Kelly Wussow, and Ryan Plamann, and many nieces, and nephews.
    Emro is preceded in death by his parents Emro and Caroline Plamann, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Earl and Elsie Krull, and his sister Betty Griffiths.

    Donald Ervin Schabo, 79, of Appleton, died Thursday, November 2, 2017 after a brief illness. He was born February 16, 1938 in Appleton, son of the late Robert Schabo and Gladys (DeWall) Brum. Don married Patricia Hurley on April 24, 1965. Together they created a home where all felt welcome.
    He was a member and usher at First English Church, Appleton. Schabs, as we loved to call him, was an ambitious and talented man. He began an apprenticeship in sheet metal work and, after achieving journeyman status, worked his way into a management position at ThermoElectron (previously Overly, Inc.) And, even though he was officially a sheet metal worker, there was nothing Don couldn't do. If you needed a plumber, electrician, mechanic, or carpenter, he was your man-the consummate "Jack of All Trades." Everyone in the family has a masterful piece of furniture lovingly crafted by Don.
    Don was a busy man. He never said 'No' to helping a relative or friend in need. When he did have free time, you would find him camping with family and friends or fishing and hunting with his buddies in Canada and at "the shack."
    More than anything, Don loved cheering on and encouraging his children and grandchildren at sporting events with popcorn in hand. He was their biggest fan. That's what made him the best dad and papa in the world. There is no way to express how much this "Prince of a man" will be missed.
    Don is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Patricia; their three children: Rick (JaTame), Appleton, Ann (Lucas Roman) Schabo, St. Paul, MN, and Kris (Tony) Kappell, Appleton; five grandchildren: Sage and Charlie Schabo, Sam and Ben Kappell, and Alex Roman; sister, Carol (Fran) Sturm, Appleton; two brothers: Robert (Judy) Schabo, Appleton and Bill (Pam) Schabo, Pembine; three sisters in-law: Marlene Dion, Susan Dailey and Kelly (Tim) Robertson all of Appleton; two brothers in-law: Michael (Dee) Hurley, Appleton and Don (Kuni) Hurley, NJ; Donald is further survived by his close friends: Jerry and Betty Behrens, and Cliff and Jan Gosz; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. He was further preceded in death by his brother Larry.
    Funeral service for Don will be 11:00 AM on Tuesday November 7, 2017 at FIRST ENGLISH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 326 E. North Street, Appleton, with Rev. Mary Bauer officiating. Visitation will be held at the church Tuesday morning beginning at 9:00 until 10:45, with service to follow at 11:00 AM.
    Don's family would like to extend a very special thank you to the entire staff at Brewster Village, for all of their care and compassion.
