Obituary:
Dan J. Leis, 55, of West Salem died peacefully in his home Friday, Oct. 2, 2009.
Dan was born Sept. 11, 1954, in Viroqua to LeRoy and Joyce (Dunn) Leis. Dan grew up in the Coon Valley area and attended Westby High School. On April 26, 1975, he married Janis Kammel; they later divorced. Dan drove milk truck and farmed for several years. He later became employed by Kwik Trip Inc. in the commissary and worked there until present. Dan fought a courageous battle with diabetes, which resulted in the loss of eyesight. Even though his sight was gone, he could identify people by a handshake or by the sound of their voice. He loved to chat with friends and relatives, had a very inquisitive mind and a great memory. Dan was an avid NASCAR fan. He had a great passion for and was a proud owner of Ford Mustangs. He could identify the type of motor in any car just by its sound. Dan was a wonderful dad and the best brother anyone could have. He loved spending time with his large family, and his great sense of humor will be missed by all of them.
Survivors include one daughter, Becky (Ryan) Buisman; one son, Brian Leis; former wife, Janis Severson; five sisters, Carol Lee, Linda (Ivan) Kunert, twin sister Denise (Randy) Gilbertson, Mary (Richard) Myhre and Ethel (Ric) Johnson; two brothers, Larry (Barb) Leis and Gary (Martha) Leis; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother in infancy, Mark Leis; and one niece, Katelyn Johnson.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Jostad-Jandt Funeral Home, 121 N. Youlon St., West Salem. Pastor Dennis Snider will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery at St. Joseph Ridge. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until time of services.

WEST SALEM - Dan J. Leis, 55, of West Salem died Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at his home. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jostad-Jandt Funeral Home in West Salem.
