Obituary:
Helen Christine Harmon, 78, Aiken, S.C., died Jan. 7, 2011, at home after a valiant fight against cancer. Born in Little Chute, Wis., she was the daughter of the late John C. and Elizabeth Hietpas. She moved to Aiken with her family in 1968. She was a member of St. Mary Help of Christian Catholic Church where she taught youth CCD classes. She attended USC-Aiken and was a Beta Club inductee. She was active in community service projects - she held several executive positions with the Aiken County Heart Board, and was active within the American Red Cross Blood Drives and the American Cancer Society. Among friends and family, she was known for her culinary and baking skills, her quick wit, her love of life, and her endless devotion toward those she loved.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Russell Harmon; three daughters, Mary Harmon (David), Aiken; Sharon Rowell (Chris) and Donna Harmon (David); eight grandchildren, Michael and David Foster, Atlanta, Ga.; Alexia Arani, Aiken; Christopher, Stephen, and Helen Rowell, Aiken; and Dylan and Russell Spearman, Atlanta, Ga. Other surviving members of her family are sisters, Joyce McMorrrow and her husband Emmett, June Stuyvenburg, Margaret Peters and her husband Clyde; brothers, John Hietpas and his wife Shirley, Luke Hietpas and his wife Rosie, Mark Hietpas and his wife Linda, Tom Hietpas and his wife Sheila, and Mike Hietpas and his wife Jo, all of Little Chute, Wis.She is preceded in death by her son, James Harmon; granddaughter, Alaina Arani; parents, John C. and Elizabeth Hietpas; and three brothers, Don, Claude, and Matthew Hietpas, Little Chute, Wis.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at the family home on Wednesday, Jan. 12, from 5 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery in Little Chute, Wis., at a later date.
