    Obituary:
Anna I. Paalman, (Anna Van Handel) 1914 - 2010 It's the dash that matters, and Anna lived it well.
Mom left this life after a brief illness to be with Jesus on Tuesday morning, May, 11, 2010. She was born in the town of Vandenbroek on May 21, 1914, daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Hietpas) Van Handel. On July 10, 1934, she married Joseph Paalman in Little Chute; he preceded her in death on October 8, 1961.
We will miss her for many reasons. Mom shared her love of life with all that came in contact with her. It didn't matter if you were a life-long friend or someone she had never met before, she shared the love Jesus gave her. Even when her sight declined she always shared a warm greeting and let you know she cared about you even if she had to ask who you were after that warm greeting. Mom never knew a stranger. She shared Jesus' love for all of God's children.
Mom especially loved children. She and Dad had helped two foster boys, Rodney and Jeff, and never forgot them. She also raised two sons of her own, Richard and Gerald, and was always proud of them. She felt privileged to have four grandchildren and was equally delighted to have seven Godchildren. After Dad died she took care of several children in her home through the years. Mom always believed in a very strong work ethic, which came from growing up on the family farm. Even at the end of her life she felt needed if she had work to do.
She is survived by her two sons: Richard (Julia) Paalman and Gerald (Joan) Paalman, all of Greenville; four grandchildren: Sarah Paalman, Adam (Martha) Paalman, Katie (Chris) Feavel, and Brett Stephens; two sisters: Martha Woldt, Barbara P. (A. Gene) Sprague; a brother: Raymond J. (Marge) Van Handel, sisters-in-law: Julia Burns, Frances Van Thiel, Mary Jane Paalman, and Noreen Paalman. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well as grandnieces and grandnephews.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joe in 1961, brothers: Richard Van Handel, Raymond Van Handel, Theodore Van Handel, Edward (Blanche) Van Handel, and Earl (Audrey) Van Handel; sisters: Barbara Van Handel, Josephine (Martin) Van Asten, and Cora Van Handel; and brothers-in-law: Hank (Lucille) Paalman, Theodore (Adeline) Paalman, Frank (Violet) Paalman, Carl Pendergast, Ronald Peterson, Ray Woldt, Jim Burns, John Van Thiel, William Paalman, and Tony Paalman.
Mom was a member of Holy Spirit Parish in Kimberly since moving to Kimberly in 1939 from Little Chute. Mom was the best mother, grandmother, sister, in-law, aunt, wife, daughter, and friend anyone could ask for. Mom loved to be on the go, visiting relatives and friends, or anything that would prevent her from sitting around. After Dad's death, Mom worked as a cleaning lady and made friends of those people and their families; work to her was life.
Mom touched many lives beyond these and they were in her thoughts and prayers always.
The funeral liturgy for Anna will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2010, at ST. PIUS X PARISH, 500 W. Marquette Street in Appleton, with Fr. Thomas Farrell officiating. Interment will be in St. John Catholic Cemetery, Little Chute. Friends may call directly at the church on Thursday afternoon from 3 p.m. until the time of the service.
We would like to thank the staff at Brewster Village where Mom spent her last four years, as well as her many friends and neighbors for all of the love and care they gave her.

    Obituary:
Martha Marie Woldt, 98, peacefully passed away at her daughter Carol's home on Friday, July 25, 2014. She was 5 weeks shy of her 99th birthday. Martha was born on August 30, 1915 to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Hietpas) Van Handel. On June 15, 1939 she married Raymond R. Woldt at St. John Catholic Church in Little Chute WI. They celebrated 69 years of marriage until his death on August 25, 2008.
Martha lived a long and productive life. Being a mother and grandmother was her main focus. She was always involved in her children's, grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's lives and gave a helping hand whenever needed. When she and Ray lived on Ballard Rd, she had a large garden and loved to can and freeze as much as she could. She was an excellent cook and had a huge collection of recipes. Her specialties were carrot cake, doughnuts for the neighbor kids, chocolate chip cookies, buns and chocolate covered Wheaties.
Before they were married, Martha and Ray would go on flying dates in an open cockpit double-wing plane with Ray as the pilot. This was in 1938-1939 when they were in their early 20's. She said she could climb in the plane as easily as others would get in a car. She was a stay-at-home mom until her youngest child was in school. Then she worked at Lawrence University for 16 years in housekeeping. She enjoyed earning her own money and making friends with the staff and students. She also showed her independence later in life when, after Ray died, she lived alone until April 2014. A great day for her was having a visit from family or friends and enjoying one of her favorite foods - strawberries, cashew crunch, oatmeal raisin cookies, McDonald's apple pies, or KFC cole slaw.
Martha was a devout Catholic and loved her church, St. Thomas More in Appleton, of which she was a charter member. She attended mass until June, 2014. She cherished having Father Gerald Falk as her spiritual advisor and always felt special when he would bless her and call her name "Martha, Martha." She also appreciated the weekly visit from fellow parishioner, former neighbor and friend, Betty Mauthe, to give her communion. They even came to visit Martha at her daughter's house in Ogdensburg during the last days of her life.
Martha is survived by her daughters, Carol Spiegelberg and Patricia Woldt; daughters-in-law, Donna Woldt and Connie Woldt; 6 grandchildren, Sherri (Gary) Gerrits, Travis (Katie) Woldt, Lisa (Quentin) Johnson, Kelli (Adam) Peters, James (Acela)Spiegelberg and Laura (Dan) Wood; and 13 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Derek, Emma, Luke, Mikenna, Carson, Austin, Jacob, Joseph, Abigail, Raymond, Vivian and Dylan. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Raymond (Marge) Van Handel; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara (Gene) Sprague; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Herman (Imelda) Woldt; brother-in-law, Ray Wittlin and many nieces and nephews.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband Ray Woldt; sons, Robert and James Woldt; son-in-law, Lyle Spiegelberg; brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward (Blanche) Van Handel and Earl (Audrey) Van Handel; sisters and brothers-in-law, Cora Van Handel, Josephine (Martin) Van Asten, Anna (Joseph) Paalman, and Ronald Peterson; and infant siblings, Richard, Theodore, Barbara and Raymond. She was also preceded in death by in-laws, Oscar (Bertha) Woldt, Anita (Peter) Berg, Melvin Woldt, Gordon (Marge) Woldt, Leslie (Lois) Woldt, Kenneth Woldt, Bernice (Henry) Stein and Lila Wittlin.
A time of visitation will be held on Monday, July 28, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, 537 N. Superior Street, Appleton. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1810 N. McDonald Street, Appleton with Rev. Gerald Falk officiating. An additional time of visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Entombment will be at Highland Memorial Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
The family would like to thank ThedaCare Hospice for their compassionate care of our mother and grandmother. Special thanks to nephew Erv Woldt for all his help and visits to Mom. The family would also like to thank neighbor and friend, Rose Smits, for her many phone calls and longtime friendship.
Remember me, my children through laughter, joy and cheer and do not weep for me in tears. Though I had to part, I will always be in your hearts. So remember me for I'm always at your side in spirit and someday we shall be together once again. With Love, Your Mother

"Dad, you had a sense of humor and had a way of making people laugh, even in your illness, you comforted us with your wit. You always said, you weren't 'pushing up the daisies yet,' and now you're no longer on the sunny side of the grass, but at peace in heaven, forever. We all love you and will miss you dearly."
"Grandpa 'Papa Jim,' thank you for always making us feel special. You are now our guardian angel. Love you!"
Jim wrote: "When I was born, I was crying and everyone around me was smiling. I lived my life so that when I die I will be the one smiling and everyone around will be crying."
The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Guenther and the staff at the Martha Siekman Cancer Center for their care and compassion, especially Marlene and Melissa for all their hugs; the AMC Radiation Oncology Unit, and the wonderful staff on 3 South; and Theda Care Hospice, especially Paul. We would also like to thank our many friends and relatives for all their support. Special thanks to Mike Pingel and Tom Cleven, for all the special visits.
