He was born in Appleton on April 7, 1928, the son of Edward and Margaret Reese Heckner. He married Carol J. Kruse August 12, 1950 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Neenah. Carol survives.
Lenny was raised in Menasha and was a 1946 Graduate of Menasha High School. He served his Country in the U.S. Navy following his high school graduation. He was employed at the former Gilbert Paper Co. in Menasha for almost 40 years until his retirement in May of 1990.
Lenny was a faithful, active member of St. Mark's Faith Community in Redgranite. He was a Liturgical Assistant for Funerals. He was also a Wine Minister for the Eucharist. He was proud to become an "altar boy" (Mass Server) at age 69. He was not able to become a server in his youth due to polio. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 56 years since 1951, first in Menasha, and recently in Redgranite. Lenny was an avid golfer. One of his life's ambitions was realized when he made a "hole in one" at twin Oaks Golf Course in Wautoma last year.
Lenny was a Chicago Cubs fan, but became a Brewer's fan, when the Brewers joined the National League. He was also a Green Bay Packers fan. He had been a Leader for Boy Scout Troup #74 of Neenah. He enjoyed camping and fishing, but most of all, he adored has family, especially his granddaughters. He enjoyed playing Cribbage with his oldest granddaughter.
The Heckners enjoyed camping in the Redgranite area for 10 years, from 1981 to 1991 and met so many nice people; they decided to move here in 1991.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Carol; a daughter, Donna (Walter) Lamacki of Mount Morris; 2 sons, Bruce (Denise) Heckner, and Daniel Hecker, both of Neenah, and 2 granddaughters, Breanna and Samantha Heckner. Also surviving are a sister, Kathy (Tom) Grether of Kaukauna, a brother, William (Joyce) Heckner of Janesville, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and good friends and golfing buddies.
Lenny was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Lorraine, who died in her youth.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mr. Heckner Tomorrow, Thursday, August 16, 2007 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Redgranite. Father Joseph Mattern and Karen Nesbit, Parish Director will be the Presiders. Following the Mass, Lenny will be laid to rest with Full Military Honors in St. Mark's Parish Cemetery, Redgranite.
