Benny Allen Batten, 67, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2009. He was born December 28, 1941, to Melvin "Jack" and Bertha Batten. He was united in marriage to Jeanette Zywicki Riley and her eight children on October 14, 1972. Benny graduated from Waupaca High School class of 1961 and attended meat cutting school in Toledo, OH. He then worked as a meat cutter at Rex's in Wild Rose, taking over the business in 1979 and moving Benny's Wild Rose Market to its current location in 1990. He loved to hunt and fish and in later years spending time with his family, traveling, stopping at the occasional casino and visiting with friends.
Benny is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jeanette; his children: Marie Thompson of Florence, WI; David Riley and Louise (Richard) Niemuth of Appleton; Loretta Rutledge of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; Dan (Bev Parker) Riley, Tom (Jane) Riley, Pat "Dean" Riley and Tim Batten, all of Waupaca; brothers: Gary (Bette) Batten of Green Bay, Dennis (Janie) Batten of Appleton and Bernice (Robert) VanDensen of San Diego, CA. He is further survived by 16 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Doris Riley, his brother Elsworth "Dewey" Batten, and his in-laws: Ben and Althea Zywicki.
Benny was a kind man with a gentle spirit and a big heart. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends, employees and the Wild Rose Community.
