Obituary:
Tuesday morning at 8:15 in the morning, in the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Nic Rach, in Hinzeville, Mr. Wilhelm Brill died unexpectedly from the weakness of old age. With his death another of the pioneers of the Town of New Holstein has been called home to the Father. Mr. Brill was born on March 12, 1834 in Belgium and has reached the age of 82 years. At the age of four years he came to America with his parents, settled in Sheldon, New York. There he married Catharine George in 1861, and shortly there after they came to Wisconsin where the newlyweds purchased a piece of land, two miles south of New Holstein, which was then virgin forest, which they over the years, through hard work, they turned it into one of the finest farms in Calumct County.
About 10 years ago they retired, and at first lived with their daughter Mrs. Petesch in Milwaukee. About 5 years ago they returned and made their home with Mr. and Mrs. Nic Rach in St. Anna. In 1913 his wife died and since then he has remained with the named relatives until his death.
The marriage was blessed with 17 children, of which 9 are still living, namely: Theo Brill in the Town of Russel, Joseph in Kiel, Mrs. A. G. Georges in Marcus, Iowa, Mrs. Peter Petesch in Geyser, Montana, Mrs. Nic Rach in Kiel, Leo and Otto in New Holstein, and Amos in Geyser, Montana. Additionally one sister, Mrs. Weber in Fond du Lac, also 51 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren survive him.
The burial will take place on Friday morning at the Catholic Cemetery in St. Anna with Father Schmitt officiating.

It is about time I answer your letter, and tell you what I know about the BRILL family. My grandfather BRILL got a passport to come to America on May 16, 1838, when my father was 4 years old. My father didn't know anything about this trip. My Grandfather BRILL settled in a little town called Sheldon Center in New York State. He was a blacksmith by trade. He got to be 86 years old, but was childish in his old age. My mother got to be 72 years old, her mind was clear to the end, and my Dad 82, but his mind was also gone for about ten years or more. He had some brain trouble some years before my mother died, and it contributed to my mother's early death. They were good Catholics to the end. My parents were both hard workers in their younger days. My mother had too many children: 17, twice twins, right in succession, first 2 girls then 2 boys. I was the oldest of all of them and am the only one left now. The last one to die was Clara RACH. I will be 95 February 13, 1957, if I live that long yet. I am older now than most people get to be and I am not yet ready to give up the ghost. If I had lived in misery and pain, then I would be ready to have it over with. But, I am not in such bad shape yet to wish the end would come even if I don't feel to gay anymore. It isn't nice to be so old that we cannot do anything, or do it right anymore what little we can do yet. My eyes give me the most trouble. I cannot see very good, and make a lot of mistakes on that account. And it is also hard for me to read – I have to have a strong reading glass to read anything, and I would have so much time for it too. Guess I have answered all your question, and don't know what more I could say. One thing more: I was on the spot where my mother was born in New York State twice, in 1921 and 1934. Lieut. Comdr. Brill is the officer in charge of marine inspection and captain of the Port of Savannah. He has sailed under four flags in the merchant marine. During the first World War he served in the Navy with a rank of Lieutenant JG. He left home at the age of 17 years of age and entered the United States Navy on January 12, 1906.
