Ethelreda S. Mueller, age 90, of Chilton, died on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Libby's House in Chilton. She was born December 15, 1923 in the Town of Calumet, daughter of the late Edward John & Genevieve Maria (Stephany) Ditter. Ethel attended school at the Garnett Elementary School, also located in the Town of Calumet.
She married Joseph A. Mueller on October 20, 1943 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marytown and the couple farmed side by side in the Town of Charlestown from 1943 until their retirement and subsequent move to Chilton in 1983.
During this time she devoted her life to raising and caring for her family, tending to her garden, quilting, sewing & mending, and perfecting her cooking and baking abilities. The time and dedication to her baking craft paid off as she won a state baking competition put on by Taste of Home Magazine and saw her award winning apple pie recipe featured in the glossy pages of Taste of Home. She also volunteered time as a Pine Creek 4H Club Leader, taught CCD and belonged to the Christian Women at St. Martin Catholic Church.
She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, formerly St. Martin Parish, the Hill & Dale Homemakers Club, Catholic Financial Chapter 194 in Charlestown, the Calumet Medical Center Auxiliary and the Eagles Auxiliary. She worked for the St. Mary Catholic School lunch program and assisted children to learn to read in the Chilton School District through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.
She also belonged to the Chilton Senior Citizens Club and helped with the organization of the Chilton Senior Fest. Over the past several years, Ethel enjoyed puzzle making, word searches, cleaning hickory nuts and found herself to be an avid Milwaukee Brewers viewer. Ethel's family was of utmost importance to her. She cherished all her visitors at Libby's House, and her card playing friends.
Survivors include her children: Raymond (Judith McFarland) Mueller, Joseph (Peggy) Mueller, Frederick Mueller, Tony (Shortie) Mueller, Ken (Nancy) Mueller, Susan Mueller, Luann Kujath; a daughter-in-law: Doris Shell; 21 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and a sister: Cyrilla Faust.
