Obituary:
Ann L. Baum, age 65, of Shawano, and well-known kindergarten teacher in Appleton, passed away Monday, March 5, 2007, as a result of an auto accident. Ann was born on November 24, 1941, at her home in Gresham, the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (Hansen) Schoenberger. On August 29, 1964, she was united in marriage to Bruce Baum at the St. Francis Solanus Church in Gresham. After their marriage the couple made their home in the Appleton area where they raised their five children. Ann's love for her family was limitless. She did a beautiful job of raising her five children to become successful and caring adults. In 1978, Ann went to work at the Foster Elementary Charter School in Appleton as a kindergarten teacher. Throughout her 29 years there, she led the start of the all-day kindergarten seven years ago and was viewed as a leader in kindergarten programming across the district. Ann's passion in life was teaching, whether it was her children, grandchildren, or her many, many beloved students.
Ann is survived by her husband of 42 years, Bruce, Shawano; her five children: Kurt Baum, Minneapolis; Dr. Karl (Kristen) Baum, Neenah; Mark (Dr. Danielle Dire) Baum, St. Paul, MN, and their children, Max and Pierce; Dr. Kari (Dr. Robert) Hegeman, Madison, and their children Mary, Alice, Hank and Joseph; Matt (Emily) Baum, Appleton and their son, Owen; four siblings: Roger (Mary) Schoenberger, Algoma; Nancy (Joe) Evans, Las Vegas, NV; Mary (Ed) Schmidt, Combined Locks; Mike (Darla) Schoenberger, Neenah; a brother-in-law, Bill Baum, Shawano and Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 2007, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church located at 2331 Lourdes Drive in Appleton, with Father Michael Clifford officiating. Family and friends may call at the church after 3:30 p.m. on Friday until the time of the service. Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano is assisting the family with the arrangements.
A memorial fund has been established to benefit Foster Elementary Charter School in Appleton.
