Obituary:
Donald E. Berendsen, age 83, of Neenah, passed away on Friday, February 01, 2008, at Vallhaven Care Center. He was born on November 24, 1924, son of the late Jerome and Melda (Otto) Berendsen. On May 2, 1947, at Calvary Bible Church, Donald was united in marriage to Beverly Orbert. Donald enjoyed traveling, and playing cards with his friends, Rueben, Jerry and Steve. He volunteered at Calvary Bible Church, was active in the church choir, loved to read his Bible and loved to share his faith in Jesus Christ with other people. Donald also enjoyed working with wood, fishing, camping, and playing golf. But most of all he loved to attend his son's concerts and his grandchildren's school events.
Donald is survived by his wife of 60 years, Beverly; two children: Kathy (John) Hartenberger and Herbert (Madeline) Berendsen; five grandchildren: Anna, William and Madeline Mary Berendsen, Sara and Rachel Hartenberger. He is further survived by his two brothers: Jerome, Aiken, SC, and Howard, Laurenceville, GA.
Donald was preceded in death by his stepmother, Edna and two brothers: Fred and Gerard.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at Calvary Bible Church, with the Rev. Rick Ribble officiating. A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the hour of service on Tuesday, at the church. Donald will be laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery. In-lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Donald's name.
