Obituary:
Katherine "Katie" Fink, 93, Green Bay died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at a local nursing home. She was born Feb. 4, 1915, to the late William and Ella (Sweet) Lagers in Green Bay. On May 10, 1933, she married Nelson C. Fink in Manitowoc; he preceded her in death Oct. 31, 1973. Katie and Nelson loved to dance when "Nellie" wasn't playing guitar with his band in the 'early 40s. Together they worked hard, learned cabinetry, and camping, and raised their two daughters. Katherine was a wonderful mother and loving friend. A strong and confident woman with a generous spirit and caring heart, she modeled unconditional love and acceptance to those to whom she gave much and requested little in return. A retired regional supervisor for AAA, Katie never backed away from a challenge. Learning to downhill ski at age 58 and looking rather like a Mountie in her orange jacket, she quickly gave up the bunny slope for the 'big ones'. After retiring, she took computer classes so she would be able to be of help in the office at Trinity Lutheran Church. A gifted seamstress and tailor she also became an accomplished and prize-winning porcelain doll maker after retiring. Lunch with her long-time friend Bea, going out for potato pancakes at breakfast time, attending family gatherings and shopping trips were her favorite activities in later years. She loved to wear hats and was always on the lookout for something with "class not sass." Katie doted on all of her grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Her cousins, nieces and nephews held special places in her heart as well.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Ron Williamsen, Green Bay; 10 grandchildren Christine Law, Beth (Martin) Schingen, Charles (Kerry) Williamsen, Brian (Lisa) Williamsen, Paula (Rob) Carriveau, Scott Maples and special friend Jolene Biller, Lynn (Dean) Ourodnik, Cheryl (George) Nechodemu, Robert(Connie) Bashaw and James (Pam) Bashaw.
In addition to her parents and husband, Katherine was preceded in death by her daughter Marlene Bashaw; one brother George Lagers; and two sisters, Dorothy Harrison and Pearl Coisman.
Friends may call after 9 a.m. on Saturday, Mar. 8 at Heartland Church, 3340 Lineville Road, Village of Howard, followed by a service celebrating Katherine's life at 10:30 a.m. Online condolences may be expressed at www.lyndahl.com.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Katherine's name. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Woodside Lutheran Home, Bellin 4th floor Medical unit and to Dr. Amy James for all the kindness and concern given to Katherine while she was in their care.
