    Ralph N. Orth, 87, formerly of New Holstein, where he and his wife Audrey owned and operated The Diner, died peacefully Monday evening, February 2, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton, surrounded by his loving family. The couple had been residents at Chilton Care Center. He was born February 22, 1921, in Manitowoc, son of the late Edward and Elizabeth Kaiser Orth. Ralph was a 1939 graduate of Brillion High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marines serving as the Chief Cook. On September 30, 1942, he married Audrey Burns at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Askeaton, WI. The couple owned and operated the Brillion Cafe before moving to New Holstein where they owned and operated The Diner for 45 years retiring at the ripe old age of 80.
    Ralph was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, New Holstein, and the Holy Name Society. He had the privilege of being the Mayor of New Holstein from 1978-1982 and also held numerous other offices including City Council President. He was a charter member of the New Holstein Lions Club and an excellent golfer perfecting his game at both Quit Qui Oc, Elkhart Lake and Hickory Hills, Chilton, having the honor and pride of three "Holes in One" and also was a excellent bowler having a perfect 300 game. He also was a charter member and sponsor of the Diner Clowns, a member of the Wayside Rough Riders Club and was the Captain of the Brillion Fire & Rescue Squad.
    Ralph enjoyed and was an avid Packers fan and was one of the brave fans to attend the "Ice Bowl" in the 60's, enjoyed sturgeon fishing, golfing and shooting pool.
    Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Audrey of Chilton; one daughter, Patricia (Ron ) Hass, Sheboygan Falls; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Thomas (Nancy) Hass and their son, Tyler of Sheboygan Falls; Jeff (Donna) Hass and their children, Kendra and Carver of Sheboygan Falls; Elizabeth (Chris) Miller and daughter, Caitlyn of Sheboygan; Tricia (Mark) Schnettler of Sheboygan Falls; three brothers: George Orth, Manitowoc; Francis (Betty) Orth, Manitowoc; John (Caroline) Orth, Wisconsin Rapids; and one sister, Marion (Paul) Skarvan, Manitowoc. He is further survived by three sisters-in-law; Rita Mae Orth, Cato; Helen Herrmann, rural Manitowoc; Catherine Burns, rural Brillion; other relatives and many friends.
    He was preceded in death by two sisters, thirteen brothers, one granddaughter, Kathleen and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
    The funeral Mass for Ralph will be celebrated on Friday, February 6, 2009, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, New Holstein at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Harold Berryman officiating. Burial will take place in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Askeaton. Family and friends may call at the Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 6th St., Kiel on Thursday, February 5, 2009, from 3 until 7 p.m. and at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. when brief family rites will take place. A wake service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
    A memorial has been established in Ralph's name.
    Ralph's family would like to thank the Staff at Chilton Care Center for their kindness and wonderful care given to him, Calumet Medical Center and St Elizabeth Hospital staff, Dr. Janu and Dr. Lee and the Chilton Ambulance Service for all their help.
