    Obituary:
Dwight Earl Harms, 90, of Appleton, WI, formerly of Dixon, died Sunday, March 8, 2009, at the Cherry Meadows Hospice, Appleton, WI.
The eldest child of Earl and Ruth (Smith) Harms, Dwight was born November 22, 1918, on the family farm west of Dixon. Following his graduation from Dixon High School, he attended Scovill Business School where he met the love of his life. He married Bernice Waterbury on August 23, 1941, in Sterling and they spent 51 wonderful years together.
Dwight began his career at Borden's where he worked his way up to Head Field man for Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin. He later started his own business, Harms Dairy Equipment Company in which he was very successful. Dwight and Bernice moved to Appleton when he started his next career with Metz Leasing Company. He spent many years traveling the country leasing milk transportation equipment.
Dwight and Bernice enjoyed two trips to Europe and their summer cottage was a houseboat on the Wolf River that they shared with family on the weekends.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bernice, and a brother George Harms.
He will be sadly missed by his son, Gary Harms (special friend Colleen Sutherland); daughter, Kathe Harms (special friend William Sloggy); grandson, Angelo Sherville; granddaughter, Amanda (Craig) Lamothe; and his sister Shirley Harms.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 12, 2009, at Oakwood Cemetery, Dixon, with the Rev. Robert L. Hansen, pastor of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Dixon, officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at the Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Dixon.
The family wishes to thank the ThedaCare staff at Appleton Medical Center and Cherry Meadows Hospice for their compassionate care of Dwight.
In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Nature Conservancy in Dwight's memory.
