Fletcher, Gwendolyn V. "Gwen" (Strong)
Gwendolyn V. "Gwen" (Strong) Fletcher, age 90, of Appleton, WI, formerly of Bear Creek, WI, passed away Thursday evening, April 16, 2009, at the Rennes Health and Rehabilitation Center in Appleton. Gwendolyn was born on August 1, 1918, in Waukesha, WI. She was the daughter of the late William J. and Clara (Holfard) Wichman. Gwendolyn was raised in Wittenberg, WI, and was united in marriage to Clifford Strong in 1938. The couple later moved from Wittenberg to a farm in Mattoon. Gwendolyn was employed for a number of years at the Antigo Hospital as a nurse, later she became employed by Waupaca County Industries in Manawa helping people with special needs. Clifford preceded Gwendolyn in death on November 17, 1988. Gwendolyn was later united in marriage to Chester Fletcher in 1990. The couple resided in Bear Creek before Chester's death on June 6, 2000.
Gwendolyn was a current member of the Christus Lutheran Church in Clintonville. Although family was her life, Gwendolyn enjoyed sewing, baking, knitting, flowers, and gardening in her spare time.
Survivors are her daughter, Lynn (Russell L.) Kerry-Radtke, New London; her son, Zane Strong, Clintonville; grandchildren: Christina (Sam) Lundt, Clintonville; Tammy (Jason) Verstegen, Little Chute; Adam (Sue) Kerry, Kaukauna; Tracey (Jake) Miller, Greenville; Tonia (Doug) Elsrod, Appleton; Aaron (Fiance: Laura) Kerry, Hunter Army Airfield, Savannah, GA; Tasha (Enrico) Warren, Fort Bragg, Fayetteville, NC; Alton Kerry, Baghdad, Iraq; Charles (Jodi) Strong, Camp Lejeune, NC; Charlee (Greg) Forsberg, Clintonville; Kevin (Teri) Strong, Green Bay; Lealynn (Herbert) Petske, Clintonville; two step-sons: Gary (Cheryl) Fletcher, Chattanooga, TN; Bill Fletcher, Albuquerque, NM. Also many great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Gwendolyn was preceded in death by her parents, husbands: Clifford Strong and Chester Fletcher, a son Charles C. Strong, a grandson Kurt C. Strong, two brothers: Rueben (Verna) Wichman and Rev. Alton E. (Levita) Wichman, and a sister Ruth (Ernst) Weiland.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 20, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Christus Lutheran Church in Clintonville with the Rev. Willard Hager officiating. Interment will follow at the Graceland Cemetery in Clintonville. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services.
