On Friday, June 3, 2011, God called one of his faithful servants home to heaven. Nathan Paul Hintz, 51, Appleton, passed away with his wife, Jackie (Vogt) Hintz, at his side, following a five month battle with cancer.
Nathan was born on March 5, 1960, in Neenah, Wis., to Gerhard and Eunice (Hageman) Hintz. He graduated from Fox Valley Lutheran High School in 1978 and from UW-Oshkosh in 1981. He was employed as a video producer at WBAY, Mills Fleet Farm, and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans/AAL where he worked for 14 years. For the past five years, he was employed as a campaign specialist at United Way Fox Cities.
Nathan enjoyed sports of all kinds. He was a huge Packers fan, making it to many games each year, with the goal to make it to every NFL football stadium. He was also a St. Louis Blues hockey fan. He loved watching his children's sports games throughout the years and was their chief statistician and number one fan. He was a Civil War buff, visiting many of the battlefields. He also enjoyed reading, traveling, and spending time with his family. Nathan was a member of Mount Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church in Appleton.
Besides his wife of 28 years, Jackie, he is survived by his three children, Craig, 27, Raleigh, N.C.; Abby, 23, Milwaukee; and Alicia, 19, Appleton. He is further survived by a sister, Naomi (Hintz) Jacobsen and her husband James, Greenville; several sisters-in-law, Kathryn Hintz, Karen (Bob) Gerrits, Mary Livingston, Diane (Dave) Mikonowicz, Ginny (Ralph) Satzer, Lori (Pat) Brennan, Chris (George) Roehrig, Sherri (Tim) Maurer, and Pam (Dan) Scharenbrock; and several brothers-in-law, Ken Vogt, Daniel (Donna) Vogt, Gerald (Amy) Vogt, and Eric Vogt. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Stephen Hintz; and his in-laws, Leo and Bernadette Vogt.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 8 for Nathan at 7 p.m. at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 930 E. Florida St. in Appleton, with the Rev. Ben Berger officiating. Visitation hours will be from 3 to 7 p.m. at the church, immediately preceding the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in Nathan's name for United Way Fox Cities.
Nathan's family would like to thank Dr. Bar-Lev, Dr. Klingbeil, and Dr. Swanson as well as the caring nurses and staff at Appleton Medical Center.
Psalm 23:5-6 My cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life.
Dad, we love you so much. We miss you terribly, but we know you are in a better place, smiling down on us. We can't wait to rejoice with you again in heaven someday!
