    Obituary:
Linden Henry Stroess, dearly loved by those who survive him, was born to his eternal life on August 11, 2010. He was born to his earthly life on October 6, 1926, to the late Henry and Cecil Stroessenreuther in New London, Wisconsin. After graduation from Appleton West High School in 1944, Lindy proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Alabama during World War II. Lindy married the "love of his life" Berwyn Litzkow on March 28, 1949. The couple had recently celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Lindy was a devoted husband to Berwyn and a loving father and grandfather. They resided in Appleton their entire married life, and were members of St. John's Community Episcopal Church in New London. Lindy was employed by Wisconsin Michigan Power Company for forty years, starting as a meter reader, and retiring in 1987 as Superintendent of Station and Meter Department. Lindy and Berwyn enjoyed their many travels abroad and cherished the many summer memories with children, grandchildren and friends at their cottage on Little Silver Lake in Wild Rose, Wisconsin.
His great love for his wife pulled him through many physical ailments in his later years. He watches over her and will always be with her.
Lindy was a past member of The Kiwanis Club of Appleton, The V.F.W. and The Moose. He served as class correspondent for many high school class reunions, enjoying the challenge. He loved to take the grandkids on trips to Wisconsin Dells or just for a joy ride. He loved to play his player piano and electric organ, performing many a recital for family and friends. Lindy and Berwyn enjoyed activities together. Including bowling with Clem and Violet, as well as being members of The Fox Valley Squares. He started golfing lessons, but a Tiger Woods he was not, and couldn't afford to keep replacing those lost balls. Sorry Dad!
Linden is survived by his wife Berwyn; seven children: Bill (Vickie) Stroess, Monona; Douglas (Julie) Stroess, Appleton; Dana (Barbara) Stroess, Seymour; Cindi (Alan) Cousineau, Appleton; Steve (Karen) Stroess, Appleton; Kent (Lisa) Stroess, Little Chute; and Jill (Lonnie) Garrison, Appleton. Lindy is also survived by his grandchildren Robert (Kelly) Stroess, Manitowoc; Alex and Anja Cousineau and Joshua Garrison, all of Appleton; Heather and Heidi Stroess, Monona; Jesse Stroess, Minneapolis; April (Paul) Arnoldussen, Kaukauna; Nick (Crystal) Stroess, Hortonville; Sara, August and Sullivan Stroess, Seymour and a step-granddaughter Amber Behling, Little Chute; five great grandchildren and two on the way! He is additionally survived by his brother-in-law: Ken Lawrence, Greenville; as well as many nieces, nephews and numerous friends. Lindy's best friend since grade school, John Brown, would visit Lindy frequently and always had a story about Lindy that would bring many smiles and loads of laughter! Thanks John.
Lindy was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: Wayne Stroessenreuther and Roy (Dorothy) Stroessenreuther; a sister: Joyce Lawrence; his mother-in-law and father-in-law: May and Richard Mitchell; and a step-grandson: Nick Behling.
Funeral services for Linden will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 16, 2010 at ST. JOHN'S COMMUNITY EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 1513 Pinewood Lane in New London, with Fr. Paul Feider officiating. Entombment will follow at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again Monday morning at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. A memorial fund in Lindy's name is being established.
The family would like to thank Christine for her devotion to the family, and many thanks to the staff from Heartland Hospice. The sadness of death gives way to the bright promise of immortality. Lord, for your faithful servant, life has changed, not ended. When the body of our earthly dwelling lies in death, we gain an everlasting dwelling in Heaven.
