    Obituary:
Howard Ertl, 80, of Neenah, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2011, at Cherry Meadows. Howard was born January 12, 1931, in Appleton, the son of Otto and Joan (Emmett) Ertl. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Army and served as a medic and surgical technician. Howard was united in marriage to Faith Kay Krueger on October 5, 1957, in Appleton. She preceded him in death in December 2004. Prior to his retirement, Howard was employed with Riverside Paper, P.H. Glatfelter and Bergstrom Paper. In his retirement years, he enjoyed driving the courtesy shuttle for Bergstrom Motors.
The Ertls were charter parishioners of St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Neenah. Howard enjoyed playing bingo, fishing and golfing, and was a good bowler when he was younger. Card playing was a favorite-he played monthly in card club, and liked cribbage and sheepshead. Howard was a huge Wisconsin sports fan and loved the Packers, Brewers and Badgers. The family treasured many good times at their cottage at Shawano Lake and later at Pelican Lake. Howard was a very outgoing and kind man; he was well-known in the community and possessed a great sense of humor. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his son, Richard "Rick" (Anna) Ertl, Neenah; his daughters, Robbin (Tom) Zimmerman, Appleton, and Renee Engelmann, Neenah; his grandchildren: Lily, Callee, Gavan, and Cassidy; and six nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his son, Randall "Randy", and two brothers, Ronald and Jerome.
The Funeral Mass for Howard will be celebrated Wednesday, April 27, 2011, 11:30 a.m., at St. Gabriel Catholic Church with Father Richard Allen as celebrant. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Neenah's Westgor Funeral Home, and again from 10:30 a.m. Wednesday until the hour of the mass at the church. Inurnment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to all those at Cherry Meadows for their compassionate care.
