He was born December 1, 1929 in the Town of Stockton, son of the late Frank and Anna (Groshek) Skiba. Ray married Irene Wisinski on September 10, 1951 in Stevens Point. They were blessed with 8 children and many grand and great-grandchildren. They enjoyed nearly 60 years together. He served in the US Air Force from 1948 to 1952. Ray was an Owner/Operator for United Van Lines for many years up until his retirement in 1996. After his retirement, he drove school bus for Lamers Bus Lines. Prior to 1998, Ray enjoyed spending time at their cottage on Arbutus Lake in Pickerel, was involved in the restoration of a Milwaukee Streetcar for the Appleton Trolley Museum and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, of which he had many. Ray was an avid Brewers and Packers fan and rarely missed listening to a game. Ray was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Appleton and a member of the VFW - Appleton. He lived at Wisconsin Veteran Home in King since 2000, following complications from a surgery in 1998. During these years, he made many friends with the King staff and graciously accepted his new life and never once wavered in his faith. Besides his wife of 59 years, survivors include their 8 children: David (Wendy), Seymour, WI; Sandra (Tom) Yuengling, Oak Harbor, WA; Gary (Patricia), Greenville, WI; Laurie (Greg) Law, Neenah, WI; Jeffrey, Wyandotte, OK; Dawn Skiba(Tim Riddle), Mukilteo, WA; Karen Feavel, Appleton; Paula Hipp, Appleton. Ray is further survived by a sister, Rose Ann Bemowski, Virginia; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers Adrian, Jerry, Clifford, Clements, Rufin and a sister, Florence. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1810 N. McDonald Street, Appleton. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service.
The family wishes to thank the staff and volunteers at Wisconsin Veterans Home in King for their constant compassion and care of Ray for so many years.
Ray will continue to help others, as he did during his entire life. His body has been donated to the University of Wisconsin Madison School of Medicine and Public Health for research and educational purposes.
