    Obituary:
Norman G. Kiefer, age 90, of Sherwood, died on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at his home. He was born March 20, 1922 in the Town of Harrison, son of the late John & Emma (Laus) Kiefer. Norman married Generose Broehm on June 1, 1950 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Stockbridge. He was born and raised on the Kiefer Homestead where he gained tremendous insight in the art of farming. Due to his father's illness, Norman was never able to attend high school, but he understood the significant value of education. Norman made sure to continually learn things for himself, and ensured that his children were given every opportunity for a good education. While in his farming years, Norman developed great respect for God's gift of nature, and the land which he farmed. He was an environmentalist, and conservationist before they became common in our everyday lexicon. Norman was also a strong advocate for preserving the family farm; he walked the talk and at the age of 65, he handed a majority of the duties of the family homestead to his son. Although he had taken a step into retirement, Norman continually helped with chores, and took on a foreman type role, making sure that the farm duties were handled properly. Norman was a patient, quiet teacher to all those around him and people who have had the honor of his tutelage know that they are better people for it. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and belonged to and held officer positions at one point in the NFO, Holy Name Society and the Sacred Heart School Board. Norman enjoyed fishing, woodworking, bowling and spending time with family and friends. He was always eager to play a game of Cribbage or Sheepshead and loved to take time to teach his children and grandchildren how to play cards. He was also a voracious reader; a hobby which was instilled in him by his mother while sitting by lamp light. Survivors include his wife: Generose; his children: Carol (Thomas) Wetenkamp of Manitowoc, Annie (Michael) Cochran of Libertyville, IL, Joe (Mary) Kiefer of Green Bay, Mary Kozic of Stockbridge, John Kiefer and his special friend, Judy of Princeton, KY, Dan (Penny) Kiefer of Sherwood, Laurie (Dean) Paul of Pacific Palisades, CA; 24 grandchildren: David (Aimee), Amy, Jason (Melissa), Mark (Danielle), & Katy Wetenkamp, Isaac & Rachael Hall, Bridget & Kelly Cochran, Heather, Lindsey, & Adam Kiefer, Abbey (Simon) Pakala, Lance & Paige Kozic, Elona (Andy) Bartnick, Willow (Dennis) Kruchten, Brian, Megan, Andy & Amber Kiefer, Nathan, Michael, & Nicole Paul; 11 great-grandchildren with 2 more arriving soon; 3 sisters-in-law: Dorothy Kiefer, Dorothy Hemauer, Maryann Broehm; and 2 brothers-in-law: Clifford Broehm & Charles Westenberger. Norman is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers: Raymond, Gerald, Leonard & Arthur; 4 sisters: Helen, Margaret, Lucille & Mildred; 2 brothers-in-law: Robert Broehm, & Herman Hemauer; and 2 sisters-in-law: Letha Broehm & Marion Westenberger. Norman would have said, "The wind will not always be at your back, the sky will not be always blue; sometimes life is an uphill struggle, and the rivers run deep. Crossing will take time, and no one said it would be easy. So trust in the Lord for His helping hand to face each tomorrow. For faith takes our worry and fears away, and peace replaces our sorrows." Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sherwood with the Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 4:00 PM until 7:30 PM on Friday, March 23, 2012 and on Saturday at the church from 9:00 AM until 10:45 AM. A Parish Vigil Service will take place Friday evening at the funeral home at 7:30 PM. Memorials are appreciated in the name of Norman G. Kiefer. Norman's family would like to thank all of the nurses & CNA's that have helped with his care over the last 7 years, and the Calumet County Hospice; everyone's love and care was greatly appreciated.
