    Hornke, John
    John Hornke, age 80, of Menasha, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at Theda Clark Medical Center. He was born on July 24, 1924, to the late John C. and Anna (Giebers) Hornke. He married Lorraine Schumacher on May 10, 1947, at Holy Name Church in Kimberly. John was a graduate of Appleton High School, class of 1942. He entered into the military in February of 1943 and served in the European Theatre with the 44th Inf. Div. John was employed by the George Banta Co. for 41 years retiring in 1986. During his employment he was active in the labor movement and served as president of Local 881 Lithographers for 15 years and as human resource personnel. He was also active in the Banta Credit Union, serving on the Board of Directors for 20 years in various offices including five years as Chairman of the Board. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #152, Menasha, an avid hunter and fisherman along with other outdoor activities. Since retirement, John and Lorraine spent their winters in Englewood, Florida where John played softball with the "Old Timer's".
    He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lorraine, a brother, Bill (Joyce) Hornke, Menasha; and Ramona Krueger, Appleton; brother-in-law, Delmar (Nancy) Schumacher, Freehold, NJ; Special nieces: Sharon (Dan) Manson, Oregon, WI; Karen (Mark) Vornholt, Neilsville, WI; special nephews: Paul (Mary) Krueger, Appleton, WI; Rick (Terry) Boelter, Mary (Jeff) Mulbey, and Kim (Ken) Stoegbauer, along with other nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Raymond G. Hornke, a sister, Ruth (Sis) Hiroskey and a sister-in-law, Bernice Decker.
    Funeral services will be held. 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at St. John Baptist Church 516 De Pere St. Menasha, with Fr. Paul Radetisky officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Burial will be at St, John's cemetery in Menasha. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy a memorial fund is being established.
