Obituary:
Donald T. "Don" Reffke, 78 of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at home surrounded by his family, following a two year battle with lung cancer.
Don was born on April 12, 1938 in Appleton to the late Theodore and Georgianna (Parsons) Reffke.
On April 11, 1959 he married Karen A. LaViolette in Sturgeon Bay.
Don retired from the City of Appleton in 2000, after 37 years of driving heavy equipment for the sanitation department.
Don enjoyed many hobbies through the years such as deer hunting, fishing, gardening, feeding his backyard critters, and all sorts of wood working along with, spending time up north with family and friends, listening to polka music, watching WWE wrestling, and trips to the casino.
He was well known by all to tinker in his garage, fixing anything that came his way. He had a love for all animals especially his beloved Allie and Ginger who are waiting for him at the Rainbow Bridge and his granddogs.
Don was a member of Riverview Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Karen and children Jeff (Vicky) Reffke and Lori (Gerry) Christianson. He is further survived by his grandson Erik Reffke and his fiancée Jessica Hughes, eight brothers-in-law, eight sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Don was further preceded in death by his brother Theodore "Babe" Reffke, his sister Kathleen Jacobs, brothers-in-law Bob Giesseman and David LaViolette, two nieces, and one nephew.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 18th, 11:00 a.m. at Riverview Ev. Lutheran Church, 136 W Seymour Street, Appleton, the Rev. Adam Bode officiating. Entombment will be in the Star of Hope Mausoleum, Appleton. Don's family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. T. Goggins and his staff, Heartland Hospice, and to the neighbors who helped out during this difficult time.
We will miss you dearly. You were kind hearted, hard working, and a gentle soul. Until we meet again in heaven, rest in peace, there is no more suffering.
