From Linda Harney Files; JOHN JAMES HARNEY (1892-1987); Born 19 August 189 2, Minnesota (per family records), the son of James and Anna (Ryan) Harne y. According to family records, John James Harney was a captain in the ar my in WWI, served in the trenches in France, and when they fought Pancho V illa on the Mexican Border. However, in the midst of battle he got appendicitis and was shipped by train to Hot Springs, Arkansas, to the army hospital to recover where he met a nurse named Edith Pederson, who he married.
