    Max Schad, 89, formerly of 1828 N. 23rd St., passed away peacefully early Monday morning, April 23, 2012, at Walnut Grove Assisted Living Community in Middleton, WI, where he resided the past two and a half years.
    Maximilian was born September 3, 1922, in School Hill, WI, the son of the late Peter and Margaret (Knier) Schad. He attended Holy Trinity Catholic School. He received his G.E.D. High School Diploma in Milwaukee.
    Max served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 when he received an honorable discharge. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Chapter 15.
    On May 21, 1949, he was united in marriage to Catherine Tremel at Holy Name Catholic Church in Sheboygan. Together they had five children. Max and Catherine were married for 58 years before she preceded him in death on January 10, 2008.
    Max worked at Plastics Engineering Co. for 31 years, retiring in 1984.
    Max was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church for over 50 years. He and Catherine enjoyed traveling after retirement. Max loved his family, western hunting trips, dancing, and reading.
    Max is survived by his five children, David (Linda) Schad, Seattle, WA, Peter (Sherrie) Schad, Madison, WI, Martha (James) Steiner, St. Paul, MN, Linda (Michael) Carr, Madison, WI, and Steven Schad, Black Earth, WI; five grandchildren, Andrew Schad, Eric Schad (fiancée, Amy Frantz), Hailey Carr, Audrey Carr, and Alex Steiner; one sister, Theresa Escher of Mission, TX; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. In addition to his wife and parents, Max was preceded in death by five brothers, Edmund, John, Theodore, Leonard and Clarence; two sisters, Marie Fessler and Rose Hauch; three infant brothers, Joseph, Bernard and Peter; one infant sister, Helen, and numerous in-laws.
    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at St. Dominic Catholic Church, N. 21st and Geele Avenue, with Fr. Daniel Lasecki officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial with full Military Honors will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
    A memorial fund has been established in his name for Agrace HospiceCare.
    The Lippert-Olson Funeral Home is serving the family.

    The family wishes to thank the staff at Walnut Grove for the wonderful care and companionship he received, as well as the compassionate staff of Agrace HospiceCare for assisting him the past few months and maintaining his comfort and dignity during his final days.
