    Professor John Arthur Martin, age 83, died Thursday, May 3, 2018. The son of Mathias and Clara (Specht) Martin, he was born August 10, 1934 in Kaukauna, WI, where he attended parochial and high school. On December 27, 1954, he married Mary Catherine Ditter of Kaukauna at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna.
    Following military service during the Korean Conflict, Professor Martin earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was employed by the Department of the Army and the Wisconsin Department of Health and Social Services before accepting a teaching position with the University of Wisconsin where he would later serve as Chairman of the Department of Governmental Affairs from 1987 to 1990 and again from 1992 until his retirement as emeritus professor in 1993. He is also a retired Colonel, U.S. Army Medical Service Corps.
    Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mary; sons David, Vancouver, WA, John and Robert, Sun Prairie and Paul (Sharel), Tomah; daughters Patricia (Dennis), De Pere and Mary, Green Bay. Also surviving is his sister, Lorraine Hetzel, Hartford, WI along with nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Susan A. Martin, April 30, 2018 and his brothers Paul, Luke and Mark.
    Professor Martin was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Madison. A private memorial service was held for family members. Inurnment will be at St. Francis Catholic Church Cemetery in Cross Plains, WI.
