From Dan Jens 5/16/2013: I believe the Anton deGroot you list, born abt 1851 may have died in 1869 or 1870, but I'm not 100% certain. I haven't found any Census record of him after 1860, but on familysearch.org, there are a couple death records that appear to be strong matches. There is a Brown County record for an Anton deGroot who died in Apr 1869 and one for an Anton de Groote who died in May 1870. Unfortunately neither indicates an age or birth year. If you have a contact in Green Bay, these records might be worth a look.

John DeGroot was born on February 12, 1855 in the town of Harrison, Calumet County, Wisconsin. He was the son of Henrieus (Henry) DeGroot and Huberdine Van Rooy from the Netherlands. His family moved to Bay Settlement in 1858, and in 1881 he moved into Green Bay to take up the blacksmith trade. One year later John married Anna Roppel of Montpelier, Wisconsin on May 16, 1882 in Eaton, Wisconsin.
They had nine children:

John was a gray-eyed blacksmith in the Green Bay area for many years. He had the wooden wagons built at a nearby shop and he added his nameplate to the wagons. The shop and the family residence were located at 1356 Main Street. At one time his mother's sister (a Van Rooy) lived with the family. She ran a candy shop located directly across the street from John's blacksmith shop. He had the house built on land that was previously owned by Reimer's Meats after the birth of the two oldest boys. Before that time, the family lived on Cedar Street.
In 1900, DeGroot and Vanderstein owned Lots 93-95 in Green Bay with John listed as the single owner of Lot 96 &97. The value of Lot 96 was $450 with taxes of $15.98 and Lot 97 valued at $225 with a tax of $7.99. According to a 1906 and 1907 record he continued to the same two lots in sewer district 8. The value of Lot 96 was $1050 with a tax of $23.31.
Lot 97 was valued at $700 with a tax of $15.54. John made a good living, but Anna Marie stated, "that whenever he had $10 he would go out and buy a lot of things."
John's daughter Rose contracted spinal meningitis in 1900. Anna Marie recalled how they would plunge Rose into a tub of hot water. The neighbors would bring tubs of hot water over to the house from the Rahr's Brewery located across the street. Knowing the end was near, Anna Marie remembers being told by her father to come to the deathbed with a lit candle and watch her die. Rose was only ten years old.
Around 1907, when Anna Marie was aged 12, the family moved to the Piggly Wiggly area in east Green Bay to run a tavern. Anna Marie remarked that it was "the biggest mistake ever made" because her father was not a good tavern manager. Anna Marie bartended and sold beer, and it is there that she believes that she met her future husband Frank Turek. The DeGroot's rented a brick house while living in that area. After seven years in the failed tavern business, the DeGroot family moved back to 1356 Main Street around 1915.
Anna Marie remembers the wonderful Christmas tree that was always up for the holidays. There would be home baked cookies, apples and candied cherries neatly decorating it. Her father John would often crawl under the tree and eat some of the cookies.
John DeGroot developed cancer of the mouth late in life and part of his tongue had to be removed. Just as he was re-learning how to talk, on December 10, 1920 he died. Following John's death there was a small mystery concerning his will. No one knew where it was located. A neighbor, John Smits told the son Henry, the executor, that indeed there was a will as he was the witness to the signing of it. They searched the house thoroughly. Eventually it was found in an old secretary desk taped under the desk drawer. The will signed and sealed on October 6th, 1919. John DeGroot is buried in the Allouez Cemetery.

JOHN A. GLOUDEMANS, a prominent citizen of Little Chute, Wisconsin, who is engaged in the hardware business, was born in Kaukauna township, Outagamie county, in February, 1857, and is a son of Adrian and Johanna (Van Roy) Gloudemans. Adrian Gloudemans was born in Holland, and came to Little Chute in 1854, and Mrs. Gloudemans came to this country during the following year with her father, Peter Van Roy. Adrian Gloudemans was a millwright by occupation, and conducted a mill in Appleton with a Mr. Schmutte, but after his marriage bought wild land in Outagamie county, at $1.25 per acre. He farmed for twenty-six years, at the end of which time he had increased his original purchase of forty acres to 365 acres, and retired in 1883, locating in Little Chute, where he has since resided. His wife died in 1910. Their family consisted of the following children: John A.; Martin, who died in 1871; Arnold, residing on the old homestead farm; Peter A., president of the village board and cashier of the Bank of Little Chute; Henry, a merchant of Appleton; Hattie, who married John Hermsen, a farmer; Dinah, who married Arnold Van der Loop, a farmer; and Mary, who married George Gurts, residing on a Kaukauna township farm. John A. Gloudemans received a common school education, and was reared to the life of an agriculturist. As a young man he rented property, and in 1895 bought a farm in Kaukauna township, later adding to his holdings until he had over 150 acres, which in 1910 he sold to his sons. In that year he came to Little Chute and established himself in the hardware business, and now carries a full and up-to-date line of hardware, harness, paints and oils, and has one of the leading business establishments of the village. During five years he was township assessor, and he also served four years as township chairman. In 1883, Mr. Gloudemans was married to Johanna Hietpas, of Outagamie county, and they have had six children, of whom four survive, as follows: Henry and Adrian, who are operating the old home farm; Peter, who is engaged in business with his father; and Martin, who also assists his father in the hardware business. The family is connected with the Catholic Church.

Biography:
ARNOLD GLOUDEMANS, who has conducted a dairy farm in Grand Chute township for a number of years, is a son of Adrian and Hannah (Van Roy) Gloudemans, and was born in Little Chute, Wisconsin, December 6, 1864. Mr. Gloudemans' father was born May 12, 1822, and his mother January 12, 1835, both in Holland, and they came to America in 1854, Mr. Gloudemans' first employment being at the old Park Hotel at ------------------, where he continued for one year. He spent a like period as a wheat buyer for a grain man, and then located on a farm two miles north of Little Chute, which he cleared from the wilderness, put in a state of cultivation and continued to farm for twenty years, at the end of which time he sold it to his oldest son, and moved to the village of Little Chute. He is still making his home there and is in the best of health despite his advanced years. His wife died October 20, 1910. They were the parents of ten children: John, in the shoe and hardware business in the village of Little Chute; Harriet, who died in 1904; Martin, who died in 1887, two years after his marriage; Arnold; Peter, who died in childhood; Peter (2), Anton and Dinah, triplets, the first a merchant of Little Chute, the second died at the age of three months, and Dinah the wife of Arnold Vendloape, a farmer on Vandenbroek township; Mary, the wife of George Guerts, a farmer of Kaukauna township; and Henry, a merchant of Chilton, Calumet county. Arnold Gloudemans attended school in Little Chute township, and until he was twenty-three years of age divided his time between the home farm and working in the woods. He then began to work for other farmers in the neighborhood of the homestead, and continued to do so until his marriage, when he engaged in the retail liquor business in Little Chute. One and one-half years later he gave up this business and for one year worked on the farm of his wife's mother and succeeding which he was a coachman in Appleton for four years, when he bought the farm on which he now resides. He has eighty acres of land, most of which he devotes to dairy farming, having a fine herd of cattle, principally Holsteins, and he sells his product to a nearby cheese factory. He was married February 19, 1889, to Mary Hurkman, born in Little Chute township, November 23, 1867, daughter of Arnold and Henrietta (Bersen) Hurkman, natives of Holland, the father born May 5, 1828, and the mother March 15, 1836. They came to America in about 1852 and located in Appleton, where Mr. Hurkman worked for others one year and then purchased a farm in Kaukauna township, on which he lived for about five years. After renting this farm out, he bought another place in Little Chute township, where he continued to live for about twenty years, at which time he removed to another property in the same township, on which his death occurred in about 1886. His widow survived him a number of years, passing away December 27, 1910. They had a family of six children: Anna, the wife of Grego Deering, a resident of Kaukauna township; Mrs. Gloudemans; Nellie, who married Albert Vandenberg, a millwright of Little Chute; and John, Henry and Bennie, who are residing on the old homestead, engaged in farming and dairying. Mr. and Mrs. Gloudemans have had eight children: Anna, born December 28, 1889; Ben, March 30, 1892; Celia, March 24, 1894; Martha, September 11, 1896; Frank, November 23, 1900; Theresa, January 7, 1903; Loretta, November 25, 1906; and Irene, April 10, 1909. Mr. and Mrs. Gloudemans are members of the Roman Catholic church at Little Chute. In political matters Mr. Gloudemans is a democrat, but he has been too busy with his farming activities to engage in public affairs to any extent.

The father came to the United States in 1854, locating at Little Chut e, and later removing to Appleton, where he was engaged some time in a mi ll business with a Mr. Schmutte, until his marriage to Johanna Van Roy, w ho had come to this country in 1855 with her father, Peter Van Roy. Aft er his marriage Mr. Gloudemans bought forty acres of wild land in this sec tion, but was later compelled to sell ten acres of this, although the purc hase price had been but $1.25 per acre. From this inauspicious beginnin g, Mr. Gloudemans became one of the leading agriculturists of his pa rt of the county, and after twenty-six years of farming he retired, in 188 3. being at that time the owner of 365 acres of excellent farming land.He is now living in Little Chute, having attained the' advanced age of nin ety years, while his wife passed away here in 1910. They had a family of e ight children, as follows: John A., who is engaged in a hardware busine ss in Little Chute; Martin, who died about 1871; Arnold, who is carryi ng on operations on the old homestead farm; Peter A., Henry, engag ed in a mercantile business in Appleton; Hattie, deceased, was the wi fe of John Hermsen, a farmer of Vandenbroek township; Dinah, who married A rnold Van der Loop, a farmer; and Mary, who married George Gurts, an agric ulturist of Little Chute township.Peter A. Gloudemans received a common school education, and later attend ed Mount Calvary College, after which he was for ten years a clerk in Pett ibone's store in Appleton, where he gained experience that has been very v aluable to him in a business way since.In 1896 he decided to enter the business field on his own account, and wi th his brother, Henry, purchased a location and opened a twostory and base ment department store, 88x100 feet, the largest store in Little Chute, whe re he carries a full line of dry goods, groceries, clothing, hats, caps, b oots, shoes, notions, feed, etc. In 1910 Henry Gloudemans sold his interes ts to Peter A., and the latter has since carried on the business alon e. At the time of the organization of the bank of Little Chute, Mr. Gloude mans, as one of the leading business men of the town, was called upon f or his influence, and financial support, and was prominent in the foundi ng of this financial institution. H. J. Verstegen was elected president; W illiam Geenan, vice-president, and Peter A. Gloudemans, cashier; and the se gentlemen, with Dr. J. H. Doyle and Henry J. Mullen, now form the boa rd of directors. The bank was organized in 1907, with a capital stock of $ 15,000, and is now on a sound financial basis and has the confidence of t he people of the town. Mr. Gloudemans is also serving as president of t he town board, and is prominent fraternally as a member of the Forester s, the Modern Woodmen of America, and the Equitable Fraternal Union. Wi th his family, he is connected with the Catholic church. In 1891, Mr. Glou demans was united in marriage, with Theresa Moder, of Dale township, daugh ter of Anton Moder, and they have had a family of seven children, of wh om two are now deceased.

Peter A. Gloudemans, 69, pioneer Little Chute merchant and formerly president of that village, died unexpectedly at his home at 7:30 this morning of heart disease. Mr. Gloudemans was born in Little Chute Jan. 17. 1869, and lived there his entire life. He served on the county board and as village president from 1911 to 1921. One of the organizers of the Bank of Little Chute, founded in 1906, he was president of the institution at the time of his death. He and his brother, Henry, opened a department store in Little Chute in 1896., In 1910, Henry sold his Interests to Mr. Peter A. Gloudemans, who operated the business alone since that time. Mr. Gloudemans was elected cashier of the Bank of Little Chute when it was organized. Mr. Gloudemans attended grade schools at Little Chute and studied for four years at St Lawrence college in Mt. Calvary, Wis. He was a member of the Holy Name society of St John church at Little Chute, the Modern Woodmen, and the Equitable Fraternal Union. Survivors are the widow; three daughters, Prudence and Laura, Little Chute: Mrs. Edward T. Kersten. Green Bay; one son, Wallace, Little Chute: one brother, Henry. Appleton: one sister, Mrs. Arnold Vander Loop, Little Chute; three grandchildren.

Anna Marie (christened as Maria Magdalena) DeGroot was born August 24, 1895 at 1356 Main Street in Green Bay, Wisconsin. At age 7 she started school at St. Willebrod's School where she loved Reading, Spelling and Arithmetic. She hated Grammar and was quite upset that in Arithmetic class that they never studied Algebra. A favorite memory Anna Marie had was of walking to school when a neighbor on his way to business school would stop and give her a ride on his ice/snow cutter. Her daily chore at home was cleaning and filling the coal lamps and lining them back up on the wooden shelf in the kitchen. She graduated from 8th grade, which ended her schooling as her parents thought that there was no reason for her to go on. Upsetting Anna Marie was the fact that her older brother Henry got to further his education by attending a business college.

The first winter after she graduated Anna Marie, at age 16, went to a sewing school that was held in an "old maid's" home near St. Peter & Paul's church. There were six or seven in the class, and she stitched the blue silk dress that is in the photograph. The following year her expert sewing abilities got her hired at the Brown County Asylum that housed the TB and "mentally insane" patients. She repaired and sewed outfits, linens and even underwear. Quite often on her "ladies time off" or break time, she was called upon to help with the patients. Anna Marie was paid over $17 a month plus room and board which included working some Sundays. The meals were excellent as the asylum had their own cows, which meant fresh milk and butter. She was eventually put in charge but after working there for over a year, Anna Marie's mother made her quit. She was afraid with Anna Marie working among those "crazy people."

At the age of 16, Anna Marie started dating a neighbor, Frank Turek. Living just two lots down from the Turek Brothers Meat Company, Anna Marie knew the Turek family well. In fact, when Anna Marie was a little girl she remembers walking old Grandmother Turek to the Christman-Cross Dry Goods Store on Main Street in Green Bay.
For a short time Anna Marie's father owned a tavern. At age 12 Anna Marie would sell beer and help bartend, and it was there that she believes she first met Frank. On September 14, 1915 Frank Turek and Anna Marie DeGroot married.

Early in their marriage they lived on Elm Street in Green Bay. But after about six weeks they moved out to the Turek farm on Cedar Creek Road now known as University Avenue. On November 26, 1919 their first child was born and they named her Elaine Anna Marie. James Francis was born eight years later on July 1, 1928.

Anna Marie's first car was purchased in 1922. It was a Roadster that had curtains to put up if it rained. Following Elaine's birth they got Anna Marie's favorite car, a slate gray Coup. Frank would hold the baby while Anna Marie drove, as he wasn't interested in driving ever since they changed the design of the Model T.
Anna Marie was an active member of St. Willebrord's Catholic Church, as well as the Women's Relief Corp.
Her son Jim recalls her pounding on the piano as the women marched patriotically around the hall. They were active in planting geraniums on the graves for Memorial Day as well. She loved playing all kinds of cards, especially Bridge, and was excellent at crossword puzzles. Anna Marie was a fine piano player and would often sit down and perform "Midnight Fire Alarm" or "Moon Winks."

Anna Marie's specialties in the kitchen included cherry tarts, cooked rice with raisins, homemade jams and jellies, and molasses popcorn balls for the Christmas season. Her husband Frank would help out in forming the popcorn balls as his hands were calloused from years of farm work. The Catholic Friday supper that Anna Marie prepared was scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes and butter with a can of peas. Her son recalls her "grease bread" where she would soak bread in a pan of hot lard.

Sadly, on December 26, 1958 Frank Turek died. Anna Marie lived alone at the Turek homestead on University Avenue (previously known as Cedar Creek Road as well as Willow Street) until the late 1970's. The land was sold to the state to make way for a widening and re-structuring of the road. Anna Marie relocated to a small white house at 1484 Mc McCormick Street in Green Bay in October of 1975. The cement silo of the Turek farm was still standing as of 2001.


In her later years Anna Marie was moved to the Odd Fellows Rebekah Nursing Home. She was a resident there for several years. On May 8, 1994 she was taken to St Vincent's Hospital with pneumonia and a 102 degree temperature. Anna Marie DeGroot Turek died on June 3, 1994 at age 98. Her daughter Elaine Bellin, her son James Turek, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survived her.

Irene McDonald, 102, Sedona, and born in Little Chute, Wis., on April 10, 1909, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Oshkosh, Wis., with an associate degree from the Milwaukee Children's Hospital.
Much of her career was spent in United Verde Hospital in Jerome, Ariz., and as a school nurse, which she loved both in the Flagstaff Elementary Schools and in the Northern Arizona University Health Department.
She was a member of the NAU Retirees, the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Gallup and P.E.O. Chapter C in Gallup. Irene enjoyed writing poetry, reading, sewing, gardening, and walking as a physical activity. She will be remembered for her positive and friendly attitude.
Irene is preceded in death by her husband, Lewis J. McDonald.
She is survived by daughters, Janet Kauzlaric and Martha (John) Mackler; and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services are pending.

Joe was born in Grand Chute on Augu st 2, 1911, son of the late Arnold and Mary (Hurkman) Gloudemans. For so me time he lived in De Pere, and had been employed by Nicolet Papers for n early thirty years, until his retirement. During World War II, Joe serv ed as a faithful member of the United States Army.He is survived by a sister, Irene McDonald, who resides in Farmington, N ew Mexico. She professed h er first vows in 1931 and her final vows in 1937. In 1968 she changed h er name to Sister Maryjo.She received her B.A. from St. Norbert College, De Pere. Sister Maryjo spe nt many years in ministry to others as a teacher. She started her teachi ng career in 1931. In the Green Bay Diocese she taught at SS. Miss Martha Guerts died at her home in Little Chute very suddenly last night. She was employed at the Gloudemann's-Gage company store here. She is a niece of H. A. Gloudemanns of this city, and is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Guerts, a brother, Matthew; two sisters. Agnes and Rose. all of Little Chute. Funeral services will be held at nine o'clock Monday morning from St. John church, Little Chute.

Miss Martha Guerts, age 20 years, died at her home Friday evening after a lingering illness. She leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Guerts: one brother Matt; two sisters. Agnes and Rose. The funeral took place Monday morning at 9 o'clock from St. John church, with Rev. J. J. Sprangers in charge. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery. She was married to Leo R. Fischer on August 28, 1928. Mathi lda was a loving mother, an excellent cook, and homemaker. She was a compe titive Life Masters bridge player and an avid Green Bay Packer fan. Bart S tarr was her all time favorite sports hero.Mathilda is survived by one daughter and five sons: Joan Laes Giuliani, Ja ck (Carol) Fischer, William (Janet) Fischer, Raymond (Carol) Fischer, Mich ael and Charles Fischer. Mary, age 99, passed away on Monday, October 11, 2010, at Heritage Woods. She was born on February 25, 1911, in Chilton, to the late Henry and Anna (Green) Gloudemans. Mary graduated from Appleton High School in 1928. She attended Lawrence College and graduated from the Moser Business College in Chicago. She was united in marriage to James L. Hobbins on June 14, 1937, sharing fifty-seven years together. He preceded her in death December 23, 1994.
Mary was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Appleton, a life member of St. Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary and for over forty years a sustaining member of the Christ Child Society. She was a competitive bridge player, a member of the American Contract Bridge League and also a member of the Appleton Duplicate Bridge Club.
Mary is survived by a sister-in-law: Germaine Gloudemans, of Appleton, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by two sisters: Mathilda (Lee) Fischer and Ethel (Ted) Merkel and five brothers: Andrew, Raymond, Alvin, Norbert and infant Willard Gloudemans.
The funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 222 E. Fremont St. on Thursday, October 14, 2010, at 11 a.m. The visitation will be held in the Sacred Heart Room from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Mary would like memorials to be directed to LEAVEN or the memorial of your choice.

Shirley A. Baeten, 86, Humboldt, died at a local hospital with family at her side, Friday afternoon, October 28, 2016.
She was born in Green Bay on March 11, 1930 to the late William and Jessie (DeGroot) Van Iten.
She graduated 8th grade in 1945 from SS. Peter and Paul School in Green Bay. In 1949 she graduated from East High School.
On May 30, 1950 Shirley and Alwin J. Baeten were married at SS. Peter and Paul Church in Green Bay. Together they farmed in the Town of Humboldt where for thirty of the years together they owned and operated Baeten Trenching.
Shirley was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish Ladies Altar Society leading many of the activities during this time. She led the funeral committee at Our Lady Queen of Peace/St. Thomas the Apostle Parish for over 25 years. Also for the parish, Shirley created the artificial floral arrangements for the altar and laundered vestments during this time.
She belonged to two snowmobile clubs, "Ranger City Riders" and "Sugarbush Trail Tramps". With Al, she spent many hours touring country trails with their UTV.
She loved crafts.
Her enjoyments also included attending the Allouez Village Band Concert at the Meyer Theater, and especially loved attending activities her grandchildren and great grandchildren were involved with. Shirley was so proud to participate on the third Friday of each month gathering with her eighth grade classmates from SS. Peter and Paul School, at a local restaurant.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Alwin and four children, Pam and Jerry Strand and their three daughters, Dawn (special friend Nick Prevost) Rost, and her daughters, Faith and Anna; Karen (Jason) Miller and their sons, Jordan, Mason, Carson; Heather Strand, and her son Clintin. Donna and Clyde Brunner and their three daughters, Lori (Jason) Dart and their son Jace; Amy (Nicholas) Ullmer and their daughter, Amelia; Tammy (special friend Tony Schuh) Brunner. Marty Baeten and his son, Kenny Baeten. Bev and Gary Reckelberg and their three children, Rebecca (Dan) Van Pay and their daughter Aurora; Dennis (Lindsey) Reckelberg; Wendy (Jason) Van Pay; and three babies arriving in Spring of 2017! Two sisters, Virginia Nickodem and Gladys Habeck. Many nieces and nephews further survive.

Carl James DeGroot, 79, Hutchinson, Kan. and formerly of Green Bay, passed away peacefully Sept. 22, 2010. Born Aug. 5, 1931, in Green Bay, the youngest son of Frank Henry and Jennie (Murray) DeGroot, he attended Green Bay East High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning from military service, he began what would become a 43-year career with the James River Corp., retiring as a millwright in 1994. On Nov. 12, 1955, he married Marlene R. Rentmeester and together they raised three children. Frank, Nancy and Julie felt blessed to host their parents' 50th wedding anniversary celebration in 2005. With a large crowd of family and friends in attendance, Carl and Marlene danced together again. Marlene preceded him in death on Nov. 29, 2006.
He attended Holy Cross Parish in Hutchinson and was a member of Prince of Peace Parish in Green Bay. An avid blood donator prior to his illnesses, Carl was a member of an elite club donating more than 30 gallons of blood. He was a lifelong Packer fan. For years he and Marlene were season ticket holders attending games regardless of weather conditions, including the 1967 Ice Bowl. Carl also enjoyed snowmobiling and hunting in northern Wisconsin and camping, card playing and fishing at Pentago Park, Mich. A skilled gardener, he was always able to produce more vegetables than needed giving much away over the years to extended family, friends, neighbors and the local food pantry. Carl loved working in the garden and tinkering in the shed. He will be remembered (surely with a smile) as "Caca" by his buddies and as "Uncle Caca" by his many nieces and nephews.

Geraldine R. "Gerry" (Jacobs) Nooyen, 86, Pulaski, died early Friday morning, April 29, 2016, with her husband, Melvin, and many family members at her side.
The daughter of Albert and Mamie (DeGroot) Jacobs was born January 26, 1930, in Bay Settlement. She met Melvin A. Nooyen when the two of them stood up together for two weddings and decided to tie the knot themselves on October 4, 1948. They enjoyed 67 years of a wonderful marriage. They began their farming journey in Scray's Hill and, soon after in 1955, purchased a farm in the Pulaski area. They called the family business "Nooyen Farms."
Gerry and Melvin raised twelve children. She loved her family and doted on her grandchildren. She also enjoyed listening to country music, gardening, sewing, embroidering, and quilting. She was a big fan of professional wrestling. Gerry loved to host family gatherings, especially at the holidays, a setting at which she could show off her great cooking talents. She and Melvin traveled all over the world with their family, and especially enjoyed visiting Hawaii and New Zealand.
In addition to her loving husband, Melvin, she is survived by ten children: Michael Nooyen, Pulaski, Patrick (Patsy Gauthier) Nooyen, Suring, Gerald (Kathy Johnson) Nooyen, Pulaski, Roger Nooyen, Pulaski, Clayton (Pauline) Nooyen, Pulaski, Richard (Marilyn Linzmeier) Nooyen, Pulaski, Robert (JoAnn) Nooyen, Seymour, Nancy (Gary) Nooyen-Wade, Pulaski, Melvin Jr. (LeAnn) Nooyen, Pulaski, and Tammy (Aaron Niespodzany) Nooyen, Seymour; 33 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one brother: Ray (Rosemary) Jacobs, Luxemburg; one brother-in-law: Norbert Cravillion, Green Bay; one sister-in-law: Diane Jacobs, Crivitz; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Donald J. Craanen, 87, Bay Settlement, passed away Friday, March 2, 2007, at his home. Don was born on Oct. 25, 1919, the eldest child of the late Jacob and Mary (Van Lanen) Craanen. On June 6, 1945, Donald married Genevieve Brunner at St. Kilian's Catholic Church in New Franken, Wis. Donald was a dairy farmer all his life. In his early years, Donald worked for both Hamman and Ziese Construction Companies. Don was always ready to lend a helping hand to neighbors and friends when needed. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed his horses and took pride in his gardening, especially growing his potatoes. Dorothy (Craanen) Malczewski, age 82, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2015, with her loving family by her side. On November 20, 1932, Dorothy was born on the family farm in New Franken, Wisconsin. Dorothy was the youngest child of the late Jacob and Mary Craanen and the sister of Donald, Rita, Herbert, Milton, and Clayton Craanen.
Dorothy raised 7 children: Debbie, Wayne, Arnie, Mary, Sherry, Jerry-Paul, and Theresa. Along with their spouses, she was blessed with 29 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Dorothy was also blessed with her sisters and brothers-in-law and countless nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends throughout the years, all whom were dear to her. A special thank you to Eileen Charlier for being the truest of friends for 75 years.
Dorothy was very proud to have been a student at Holy Cross Catholic School in Bay Settlement, Wisconsin and a member of Holy Cross Church in her early years. She later became a member of both St. Mary and St. Patrick's Catholic Churches in Menasha, Wisconsin.
Dorothy sold Stanley Home Products for many years and was also an employee of Rogan's Shoes for quite some time. She worked as an in-home caregiver and companion and had also been employed at Best Bakery and Kiddie Corner Day Care in the Fox Valley.
Dorothy enjoyed playing cards her entire life. She loved being with her siblings and their spouses spending an afternoon playing Sheepshead or getting together with friends for an evening of Canasta. She taught her children many card games which are all fondly played and continue to be taught to grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 am on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Holy Cross Parish, 3009 Bay Settlement Road in Green Bay. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until the time of the Mass at the church. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Bay Settlement. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
Dorothy's family would like to thank the staff at Appleton Medical Center and ThedaCare Hospice for their care and kindness during Mom's final hours.
With open arms, Dorothy was received by God in Heaven.
May she forever shine in the love of the Lord.

Gloudemans, Little Chute, age 85, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, was received in the arms of the Lord and reunited once again with his wife on Wednesday, August 1, 2007, surrounded by his family at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Tony was born in Little Chute to the late Henry and Harriet "Hattie" (Vosters) Gloudemans on February 26, 1922. Tony's mother died when he was three years old. A few years later, Tony's father married Elizabeth (Molitor) Schumacher. Their combined families provided him with fourteen sisters and brothers. Tony was the last surviving child of this blended family. While attending St. John Schools, Tony helped out on the family farm. It was at a dance that Tony met the love of his life, Verna Van Hammond. Tony and Verna were married on June 22, 1944, at St. John Catholic Church in Little Chute. Together they were blessed with eighteen children, whom he loved dearly. Tony and Verna were married for 62 years before Verna died on July 4, 2006. Throughout his married life, Tony worked extremely hard to provide a wonderful home for his family. Early in his marriage, he continued to work on the family farm and helped out at the Little Chute Supply Company. Later on, he was employed as a Pulp Mill Supervisor at Thilmany Pulp and Paper Company in Kaukauna for 38 years before he retired in February 1984. He also worked very hard at home to help his wife with the daily work involved in raising such a large family. Each of his sons- and daughters-in-law was warmly welcomed into the family. Tony's love for children was very evident each time he interacted with one of his grandchildren or great-grandchildren. He was an excellent handyman. It has been said many times that if Tony couldn't fix something, it couldn't be fixed ... "Just put it by the road!" Tony was a devout Catholic and a member of St. John Nepomucene Parish. Praying was very important to Tony, and while raising his children, the rosary was part of their daily routine. On the afternoon before he died, Tony prayed the rosary at the hospital with his entire family.

Tony was preceded in death by his loving wife, Verna; an infant daughter; two granddaughters: Becky Janssen and Jill Schuler; a daughter-in-law: Arlene Gloudemans; his parents; father and mother-in-law, Arnold and Antoinette Van Hammond; brothers: John (Margaret), Joseph, Richard, Peter, and William (Florence) Gloudemans; sisters: Elizabeth "Lizzie" Van Handel, Ann (Willis) Schumacher, Martha (Elmer) Diedrick and Mary Gloudemans; step-brothers and sisters: Marjorie (Bernie) Meulemans, Marion (Joe) Wilz, Bob Schumacher, Willis (Ann) Schumacher, Ed (Millie) Schumacher, Elizabeth "Toots" Schumacher; sisters and brothers-in-law: John Van Hammond, John Van Hammond, Joseph (Gladys) Van Hammond, Martin (Alice) Van Hammond, Agnes Wydeven, Harriet Van Hammond, Earl De Bruin, Milton Daniels, Lloyd Vander Heiden, and Frances (Joseph) Gerrits.
A Mass in celebration of Tony's life will be held at 12:30 p.m. at St. John Catholic Church in Little Chute on Saturday, August 4, 2007, with Rev. James Habelewitz officiating. Friends may call at the church Saturday from 10 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. directly at church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in Tony's name.
The family would like to give a special thank-you to the 4th floor staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital and Dr. Phillip Yazbak, Dr. Nancy Homburg, and Dr. Jack Meyer for their assistance in helping us to care for our father, as well as Fr. Peter J Gloudemans 1749 N Outagamie St. Appleton, age 68, died at 1045 am, Sat, Sept 26, 1992, following a short illness.
He was born March 23, 1924, in Little Chute and had been an Appleton resident since his marriage to Valeria A Fischer on Nov 30, 1946.
Prior to this time, he served with the US Navy for 34 months in the Pacific Theater.
Peter had been employed by American Can in Menasha for 35 years, retiring in 1982.
Mr. Gloudemans enjoyed carpentry and raising flowers, which filled his entire yard.
He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Burial will be at St Joseph Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N Superior ST. Appleton, on Monday from 4 until 8 pm and on Tuesday at the church from 9 am until the time of the Mass.
A prayer and scripture service will be held at 7 pm Monday.

Van Zeeland, Geraldine P. (nee Gloudemans) formerly of 1019 Sanitorium R d. KaukaunaAge 86, died peacefully Sunday evening, March 24, 2002 at St. Joseph Resid ence, New London. She was born September 25, 1915 in Little Chute; daught er of Martin and Martha (Vandenberg) Gloudemans. She graduated from St. Jo hn High School and was employed by the Power Company in Appleton. She marr ied Alois Van Zeeland on September 5, 1942. He preceded her in death in 19 96. Together they owned and operated the Van Zeeland Nursery for 47 yea rs until their retirement in 1979. She was a lifelong member of St. John C atholic Church, Little Chute. She was a member of the St. John Choir, t he Altar Society and the Catholic Order of Foresters. She enjoyed spendi ng time at the cottage and fishing with Alois and other family members. S he liked crocheting, but she mostly enjoyed music, singing and playing t he piano. She and Alois celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1992.

Reginald J. Gloudemans, Town of MenashaAge 84, died on Saturday, January 6, 2001, at his home. Reginald was bo rn on November 4, 1916, in Little Chute, son of the late Martin and Mart ha (Vandenberg) Gloudemans. He married Julia Van Zeeland on July 21, 194 5, and they have enjoyed 55 years of marriage. He served in the United Sta tes Army during World War II from April 9, 1941, to September 25, 194 5. He was overseas with the 135th Medical Regiment for 34 months in the So uthwest Pacific Area. Reginald was employed as a plumbing inspector for t he City of Appleton for over 19 years, until his retirement in 1973, and w as a past president of the Wisconsin Society of Plumbing Inspectors. He w as also one of the founders of the East Central Wisconsin Plumbing Inspect ors Association. Reginald was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Chur ch in Appleton since 1953. He is a Life Member of Council 607 Knights of C olumbus, a member of American Legion Post 38, and a member of the 135th Me dical Regiment Association. MRS. STREAN DIES, HOSPITAL Funeral Services Arranged For Friday Morning
Suffering only a week following an operation and from complications of diseases, Mrs. Earl Strean, 25, 2515 Eleventh street, died at Two Rivers Municipal hospital at 3:05 o'clock this morning.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 9 o'clock from St. Mark's Catholic church, with the Rev. Father Peter Nilles officiating. Interment will be at Holy Cross cemetery. The remains will be brought to the home of Mrs. Strean's parents on Eighteenth street from the Beduhn and Goetz funeral home Wednesday afternoon.
Mrs. Strean, nee Martha Coenen, was born in Dancy, Wis., Nov. 6, 1908, and is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Coenen of this city, the family moving to this city ten years ago. She was married in this city to Earl Strean on June 6, 1927.
Besides her husband and parents, she leaves three young sons, Robert, 4; Royal, 3, and Reuben, 19 months old, and three brothers, George, Edward and Orval, at her parents' home, and a sister, Rose Coenen, also at home.
