    R. R. W. RICE STRICKEN, DIES AT MADISON - Taken by Death While in Hospital For a Checkup
    Stevens Point mourns the sudden death today of one of its prominent surgeo ns and physicians, Dr. Rhody W. Rice, age 45. His death occurred at 1 a. m. at Wisconsin General Hospital, Madison, following a heart attack.
    Dr. Rice had gone to Madison Saturday to attend a meeting of the house of delegates of the State Medical Society of Wisconsin, of which he was a member. He entered the hospital Tuesday noon for a physical check up and was stricken in the evening.
    The Rice home is at 638 Clark street.
    Marquette Graduate
    Dr. Rice received his doctor's degree from the Marquette University school of medicine in 1926 and after serving his internship at St. Mary's hospital, Milwaukee, he practiced for a year in Milwaukee, where he was associ ated with Dr. Andrew Weber. He began practice in Stevens Point in 1928 wi th his father, the late Dr. Daniel S. Rice, who died in 1937. He was asso ciated with his brother, Dr. Maurice Rice, from 1933 to 1935, when Dr. Ri ce went to Philadelphia and later to Madison, returning to Stevens Poi nt in July, 1938. Dr. Maurice Rice served in the navy from 1942 to Januar y, 1946, then resumed his practice here. The brothers have maintained off ices at 401 1/2 Main street. Dr. Robert Slater has been associated with t hem since 1942.
    Hospital Staff Member
    Dr. Rhody Rice had taken postgraduate work in cardiology at the Universi ty of Minnesota at two different times. He was a member of the Portage Co unty Medical society and State Medical society. He was also a member of t he staff of St. MIchael's hospital since locating here and formerly serv ed as its secretary and treasurer and on its executive committee.
    Honored in 1937
    In 1937, Dr. Rice was made a fellow of the American College of Surgeo ns in session in Chicago at the time.
    Dr. Rice was born in Stevens Point on March 15, 1901. His mother, Mrs. Da iel S. Rice, resides at 340 Pine street. He attended St. Stephen's paroch ial school, was graduated from the Stevens Point High School in 1919 and a ttended Central State Teachers college, before entering Marquette. His ma rriage to MIss Beatrice Anderson of Chicago took place on May 30, 1928.
    Those Who Survive
    Surviving besides the widow and his mother, are three children, Peter, a ge 14, Mary, 12, and MIchael, 10, the brother, Dr. Maurice Rice of Plov er HIlls, and four sisters, Mrs. R. L. Jones and Mrs. Robert Bablitch of S tevens Point, Mrs. Stuart Owwns of Chicago and Mrs. Clark Gapen of Riversi de, Ill.
    Dr. Rice was a member of St. John's court No. 1807, Men's Catholic Ord er of Foresters, Council No. 1170, Knights of Clumbus, the Holy Name socie ty of St. Stephen's church and the Kiwanis club.
    Services Saturday
    Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at St. Stephe n's church with burial following in the parish cemetery.
    Friends may call at the Crosby funeral home after Thursday noon. Gener al rosary will be said Friday evening at 8 o'clcock. Members of the Knigh ts of Columbus council also will meet Friday evening at 8 o'clock to say t he rosary. St. John's court of Foresters and St. Stephen's court No. 25 8, Men's Catholic Order of Foresters will say the rosary at 7:30 o'clock F riday evening.

    Rhody married Anderson, Beatrice C. 31 May 1928, Elcho, Langlade, Wisconsin, USA. Beatrice was born 29 Oct 1904, Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA; died Bef 2004. [Group Sheet]
