    Obituary:
    JERAULD "RED" McCARTHY age 89, of Adrian, died, Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Sanford Luverne Medical Center in Luverne. He was born April 18, 1923 in Hand County, SD; to John A. and Florence M. (Spinner) McCarthy. He attended Hawthorn Grade School and Washington High School in Sioux Falls. He entered Military service on March 5, 1943 and was discharged October 9, 1945. He served in the Army Air Corps as an engineer gunner in B 26 Bombers and flew 42 missions over France and Germany.
    Red married Arlene Galles on November 28, 1946 in Slayton. They moved to Adrian on July 1, 1950 and took over the Red Owl grocery store for six years. He was also a salesman for BF Goodrich for ten years. In 1965, he opened a clothing store and in 1974 started McCarthy's Bar and Lounge. Red retired in 1997.
    Red was the first president of the committee for the Adrian swimming pool and campground and served for eight years. He was also an active member of the St. Adrian Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the St. Adrian KC's VFW and also a lifetime member of the Adrian American Legion and a past commander. Red was also past president of the Adrian Chamber of Commerce and the Adrian Lions Club. Red was the proud recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellows Award for dedicated humanitarian services in 1993-1994. He also shared the gift of life donating blood regularly until 2013. Red participated in the Southwest honor flight to Washington DC , enjoyed playing cards and was an avid golfer. He was especially proud of his 1963 Luverne Championship.
    He is survived by his wife, of 66 years, Arlene McCarthy, Adrian; four children and their spouses, Dorance (Jane) McCarthy, Adrian; Kevin (Kathy) McCarthy, Tucson, AZ; Kathy (Mark) Hogan, Chaska and Kelly (Tammy) McCarthy, Worthington; eight grandchildren, Megan (Earl) Rosales, Kelsey McCarthy, Ryan (Yesenia) McCarthy, Andy Hogan, Jeff Hogan, Kelly Hogan, Molly (Mike) Voss and Katy McCarthy and one great grandson Ethan.
    Red was preceded in death by his parents, son, Jeff and infant son Joseph, three brothers, George, Matt and Garland McCarthy.
