Raymond Andrew Baum, age 96, died peacefully on Friday morning, September 22, 2017 at his home. He was born October 18, 1920, in Appleton, the son of the late John A. and Katherine (Gengler) Baum.
Ray attended St. Joseph and St. Therese grade school. He graduated from Appleton High school in 1938. He was united in marriage to Georgiana J. Fischer, on October 23, 1945 at St. Edwards Catholic Church, in Mackville. They were married for 68 years.
Ray could fix just about anything, in particular he was very good at clock repairs and he became very proficient at scroll saw projects. He was a volunteer fireman on the original crew for the Grand Chute Fire Department, on Hwy OO and also volunteered at St. Vincent De Paul. He retired from Giddings and Lewis in Kaukauna, where he was a respected machinist and machine demonstrator. Ray enjoyed spending time at the cottage on his pontoon boat with his family and friends.
Ray is survived by his loving children: Georgiana (Dennis) Gauerke, Hortonville; Joseph (Sandy) Baum, Montello; Marilyn (David) Whiteside, Pueblo, CO; Nicholas (Kathy) Baum, Appleton; Patricia (Lee) Bishop, Shawano, 17 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Rosemary Probst. He was further preceded in death by his wife, Georgiana; a son, Peter; three brothers: Fr. Pete, George, and Vince; and a sister, Margaret.
The mass of Christian burial will be 11:30 AM, Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at ST. PIUS X, 500 W Marquette Street, Appleton, with Fr. James Jugenheimer officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives Wednesday morning, at St. Pius X, beginning at 9:00 AM until 11:15AM, with the mass to follow at 11:30 AM. Entombment will be at St. Joseph cemetery, Appleton.
