Betty J. SlaterBetty J. Slater, 77, of 107 E. Monroe St., Port Washington died Saturda y, April 20, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital-Ozaukee, Mequon.She was born on Dec. 2, 1924, in Hollandtown, a daughter of the late Ted a nd Nell (Van Vreede) Gerrits. In May 1948, she married Allan E. Slat er of Random Lake in Dubuque, Iowa.They raised their family in Fredonia before moving to Port Washington in 1 964.She was a secretary for the former Peiffer Advertising of Port Washingt on for many years. She was always very active with her family and her comm unity. While living in Fredonia she started their first Girl Scout troop a nd remained a leader when she moved to Port Washington. She volunteer ed at the city voting polls and with the former Port Washington Mariners D rill Team. Among her many joys besides her family were ceramics, crochetin g, golfing, fishing, playing the piano, taking family pictures and flow er gardening.She is survived by her husband, Allan; three daughters Shari (Mike) Lohu is of Medina, Ohio; Pam (Bob) Thill of Cedarburg; Alison (Bob) Benter of N ew Fane; her son Ted (Theresa Schwartz) Slater of Cudahy; eight grandchild ren; one great-grandson; four sisters Evelyn Keller of Appleton; Ethel Dup ler, Hilda (Clarence) Veit and Bernice Leonhard, all of Sheboygan, and a b rother, Don (Edith) Gerrits of Fond du Lac, other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by an infant daughter Marciana and granddaught er Heather.Funeral services will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 23 at the Poole Funer al Home, Port Washington. The Rev. Joseph Haas of St. Peter of Alcantara C atholic Church, Port Washington, will be the officiant. Interment wi ll be at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery, Fredonia. Visitation aft er 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with a 4 p.m. rosary.Memorials to the American Cancer Society or charity of choice appreciated.
