Alice (Green) Peterson passed away peacefully in her own home with her family by her side on October 13, 2011. Alice was born August 2, 1916, in Freedom and never left. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mae (Appleton) Green. She married Edwin Peterson on June 14, 1938. She graduated from St. Nicholas Grade School and Freedom High School. She also graduated from Outagamie County Teachers College of Kaukauna.
She then began teaching in a small one room public school with all 8 grades at Golden Rule, Forest View and Elm Hill School. After raising her large family, she was a substitute teacher for 8 years at Freedom Elementary School and volunteered at St. Nicholas School. Alice served on the Election Board of Freedom for 13 years. She was a loyal lifetime member of St. Nicholas Parish and also the Christian Mother's Sodality. Alice took great care of her husband for almost 18 years after he was severely injured from a fall.
She loved crocheting and embroidering and almost anyone who came to visit left with something. Two of her proudest pieces of crocheted work were her "Our Father" and "Children's Bedtime Prayer". Other sources of joy were her gardens, (both flower and vegetable) praying and reading. Her greatest joy of all were her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her great great grandchild that made her family five generations of which she was very proud.
Survivors include her children: Pat (Loren) Wiandt, Sister Sandra SSND, Bob (Mary), Roy, Honey (Terry) Garvey, Lois (Pat) Grady, Jerry, Sandy (Jim) Verhoeven, and Joe (Sherry) and special daughter-in-law Karol; 20 grandchildren: Janet, Jean, Rob, Paul, Dawn, Mark, Julie, Holly, Jamie, Jesse, Tonya, Joe, Jeff, Jason, Jill, Ben, Andy, Jeffrey, Derek and Kelly. 26 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She is also survived by 2 sister-in laws, Gladys (Al) Krause and Rose Mary Green, and numerous nieces and nephews, godchildren and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin; sons, Roger and Jim (Morgan) and two infant sons; her parents, her sisters and brothers-in-law; Agnes (Andy) Weyers, Edna (Joe) Rickert, Isabel, Margaret (Tony) Vanden Hoogen and her brother Joe. Also preceding her in death are her husband's family.
The funeral liturgy will be at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, October 17, 2011 at ST. NICHOLAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, W2037 County Rd. S, Freedom, with Fr. Dave Hoffman officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. with Deacon Don Newhouse officiating. The visitation will continue at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the mass.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt Thank You to Dr. Brian Scott and the staff of Affinity Hospice especially Tammy and Susan. We would also like to thank our family and friends for their ongoing love, support and visits and most importantly special thanks to our Sister Sandy, Joe and Karol. Without them, we couldn't have kept Mom & Dad at home for all those years. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name.
Our family was blessed with 95 years with our tender Mother. She taught us to pray, work and share. Thank You Mom for our big happy family and our wonderful memories. No more worries - no more cares - sleep tight and happy crocheting!
    We Love You MOM!!!

    Obituary:
Peterson, Jim "Morgan" - Jim Peterson, 56, of Freedom died Sunday August 7, 2011 at home with his family by his side. He was born on June 28, 1955 to Edwin and Alice (Green) Peterson. On August 23, 1986 he married Karol (Schuh) Peterson. They were blessed with two children, Jill and Ben, for whom he devoted his life. His children brought daily joy to him, and the family home was filled with tons of love and laughter. Morgan was the proud owner of Peterson Landscaping, a business he built from the ground up over twenty-five years ago. Morgan took great pride in being a hard worker and instilling his work ethic in many fine young men over the years all whom he is very proud of. His favorite place on this earth was his beautiful nursery where he spent countless hours caring for his trees and shrubs; to him this was heaven on earth.
Morgan enjoyed being everyone's "favorite". He always had a pocket full of candy and was ready with a long winded joke or story for all who were willing to listen. His gift to us was to always put a smile on our face and leave us laughing even in the most difficult times. His overwhelmingly positive, upbeat attitude, especially over the difficult past year, has been an inspiration to us all. You truly are our hero. Morgan was an extremely special person who holds a special place in the hearts of all who knew him.
Morgan is survived by his wife of nearly twenty five years, Karol; two children: daughter, Jill (fianc? Cory Ihde) and son, Ben and his mother, Alice Peterson; brothers, "The Daryl's", Bob (Mary), Roy, Jerry and Joe (Sherry); sisters, "The Dolly's", Pat (Loren) Wiandt, Sister Sandra Peterson, Honey (Terry) Garvey, Lois (Pat) Grady and Sandy (Jim) Verhoeven. He is further survived by Karol's parents, Jerry and Bev Schuh; and her siblings: Karen (Dave) Kaphingst, Kathy (Marv) Spierings, Kevin (Carla) Schuh and Konnie Schuh; six godchildren; thirty eight nieces and nephews; twenty seven great nieces and nephews and numerous other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edwin and brother, Roger and with two infant brothers. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. William Guenther, Dr. Aaron Douglas, Dr. Travis Kroner, and Dr. Jon Derksen as well as the staff of the Martha Seikman Cancer Center and Appleton Medical Center Oncology. Last but not least, we would like to thank our family and friends for their outpouring of support shown to us over the past year.
The funeral liturgy for Jim will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, August 12, 2011 at ST. NICHOLAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, W2037 Cty Rd S in Freedom. Msgr. John Schuh will be officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday evening at the Fargo Funeral Home from 4:00 until 8:00 pm and again at the church on Friday from 10:30 am until the time of mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.
    The Nursery Man's Prayer
The Nursery Man stood at the gate.
His head was bent and low
He merely asked the man of fate,
Which way he ought to go.
"What have you?" St. Peter said, "to seek admittance here?"
"I ran a nursery down on Earth for many and many a year."
St. Peter opened wide the gate and gently pressed the bell.
"Come in" he said, "and choose your harp, for you've done very well."
    Well done Morgan, well done.
Dad, we will never forget you and you will live on within us forever.
