    Obituary:
Dr. Robert Burns, age 92 of Kimberly, passed away at his home on Saturday afternoon, July 18, 2015. His daughters were at his side.
Robert Burns was born in Kaukauna, Wisconsin on November 10, 1922, the son of the late Daniel and Florence (Campbell) Burns. He attended St. Mary's school in Kaukauna and a small country school in Askeaton. He graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1940. In 1941 and 1942 he attended Marquette University, taking evening courses in accounting and business law, while working in the payroll office at Cutler-Hammer during the day. Bob met Virginia "Ginny" Moore in 1941. He entered the US Army Air Corps on February 3, 1943 and attended Louisiana State University taking courses in Air Corps Administration.
Bob then served in a personnel office at Selfridge Field, Michigan. While stationed there and on leave, Bob and Ginny were married at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Milwaukee on October 23, 1943. He then entered the Aviation Cadet Training Program and attended North Carolina State University. He remained a cadet until he was discharged from the service on December 5, 1945.
After being discharged, Bob returned to Marquette University School of Dentistry and graduated in 1951. Bob and Ginny chose to practice in Kimberly, to be near friends and relatives. He was active in the American Dental Association and Past President of the Outagamie County Dental Society. He also served as President of Kimberly State Bank and was on the Board of Directors of Associated Bank. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post #60.
In 1976 he was selected as a potential recipient of the Alumnus of the Year Award by Marquette University. He was honored to be the Rally Master for the Kaukauna High School Class Reunion in 1988.
The Burns family took many wonderful trips together through the years with their children. They loved their many visits to Ireland and all the people they met there. Those visits inspired him to build an Irish cottage in Askeaton. The family has enjoyed spending time there since 1972. Bob and Ginny also found time to travel to Nassau, Bahamas where Bob treated needy dental patients several times.
In 1980, Bob wrote a book about some of his life experiences entitled, "A LUCKY PERSON HAS ONLY TO BE BORN". He enjoyed writing it and loved hearing from those who have enjoyed reading it. A patient once wrote to him, "As a dentist, your life has been 'full-filling'". And it was!
Bob was a loving father, Buppa and Great Buppa. He was a kind and sensitive man who helped many in his lifetime. He was witty, charming, clever, and full of Irish humor. Bob was proud of his family and he loved them all dearly. It was always a pleasure for him to sing with his three sons, and when he did, they called themselves, "The Burns Boys and Sometimes Dad."
Bob is survived by three loving daughters: Mary Honore (Tom) Greenwald of Lake Geneva; Catherine Mary "Katie" (Dr. Edward) Bekx of Kimberly; and Margaret Mary "Maggie" Burns of Manitowoc; and a daughter-in-law: Michelle Weinberger Burns of Waupaca. Bob is also survived by his loving grandchildren: Patrick (Candy) Greenwald, Daniel (Gina) Greenwald, Bridget (James) Sloane, Brian Burns, Molly Burns, Bobby (Mackenzie Smith) Burns, Paddy Burns, Robbie (Amber) Bekx, Danny (Katie) Bekx, Sean Bekx and his fiancée Kim Schmit, Lauren (Max) Bekx - Coonen, Emily (Brian) Bock, Ashley Bero, and Erin (Chris) Moen; and ten great-grandchildren. Bob is also survived by two sisters: Alice (Dave) Huss of Kaukauna and Mary Dietzen of Appleton.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Ginny in 2002, his sons Michael in 1991, Patrick in 2008, and Thomas in 2011; his three siblings: Jack (Ruth) Burns, Betty (Art) Lauer, and Daniel (Rose Marie) Burns; a brother-in-law: Ronald Dietzen; and Ginny's parents George and Florence Moore.
The funeral liturgy for Bob will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 31, 2015 at HOLY SPIRIT CHURCH, 600 E. Kimberly Avenue with Fr. Bob Kollath officiating. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the church on Friday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the Mass. Bob will be buried with the rest of the Burns family at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Askeaton on Saturday morning with full military honors. The entire Burns family would like to thank Michael Leet, a family friend who lived at Dad's home for over three years. Mike's presence allowed Dad to remain in his own home, and that was so very important to him. Mike's light-hearted nature, patience, and care for Dad were so appreciated.
Our family also wishes to thank Kathy Vogel who helped Dad and Mom for over twenty years. She continued to help Dad after Mom passed away, and was especially important to him as she became not only a friend but also a caregiver. Kathy often referred to Dad as, "Dr. Cutie."
We would like to thank the Affinity Hospice staff, especially Laurie, for their care and concern for our dad. We would also like to thank Vikki Graf for her recent, dear friendship with Dad. Vikki was always willing to be there when we needed her and Dad enjoyed her company.
Very special thanks go out to the many people who showed our dad kindness in his elderly years. It will always be remembered.
Dad, we love you and we will miss you. Please give Mom, the boys, and all of our dear ones a hug from us - until we meet again! Honore, Katie and Maggie

Elizabeth H. "Betty" Lauer, (nee Burns), 91, passed away quietly into the arms of her Heavenly Father on July 15, 2015, surrounded by her children and those who loved her best.
Betty was born to Daniel J. Burns, Sr., and Florence (Campbell) on July 12, 1924. She grew up in Kaukauna and Askeaton with five siblings who loved and thought the world of her. Betty graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1942, where she met her future husband, Arthur Lauer. She was crowned the "Alice in Dairlyland's" Brown County Dairy Queen in 1942, then attended St. Mary Nursing School in Milwaukee to pursue her desire to be a stewardess. This dream was cut short by "one inch" and the unexpected passing of her mother. Afterwards, she returned home to nurture and help raise her younger siblings. After marrying, they began a journey that took them from a family of two to a family of twelve. She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Kaukauna, where she attended Mass. Betty had a deep faith and love for our Lord, Jesus Christ and his Blessed Mother.
Betty was a woman of common sense and uncommon talent. She was a fount of knowledge and Irish wit. She bested her children in many a foot race and could break an apple in half with her hands. Betty was unbeatable in any word game and loved crafting beautiful gifts with her hands, and passed that knowledge onto her children. She was proud of her Irish heritage and made sure that everyone knew it. Betty was also a Girl Scout Troop Leader. She loved to golf and spent a lot of time at Countryside Golf Course where she was the secretary of the Thursday Morning Ladies League.
Betty is survived by her ten children, Marcia Lynch, David (Terri) Lauer, Dennis (Nancy) Lauer, Richard Lauer (friend Vicki Van Dinter), Kathleen Siebers, Karen (Dan) Hurst, Lynn (Frank) DeLuney, MaryBeth (Leon) Lipp, Robert (Joannie) Lauer, and Sara (Gregory) Beatty; and her grandchildren, Erin, Megan, and Kevin; Michelle, Elizabeth, Kenneth, and David; Laura, Jenny, and Katie; Doug, Andrea, Greg, and Nick; Rory, Matt, Abby, Hannah, and Jordan; Meliah, Julie, Eric, Adam, and Leon; Andrew, Jack, Nora, Benjamin, David, Bridget, Lucy, Gretchen, Kara, and Clark. Published in Appleton Post-Crescent from December 3 to December 4, 2012
    Atty. Daniel J. Burns, Jr.
"Bud" Burns, age 86 of Kimberly, died December 2, 2012, following a diagnosis of throat cancer. Dan was an attorney in solo practice in Kimberly, Wisconsin for 57 years. He is survived by his children, Sue Ellen and Shawn Bolender, Daniel and Libby Burns, Barbara and Brian Liesch, John and Megan Burns, William and Jessica Burns, and nine grandchildren (Mirah, Maris, Riley, Brittni, Jenna, Hagan, Aidan, Ava and Francis).
Son of railroad man Daniel Sr. and Florence (Campbell) Burns, he was born on August 12, 1926 in Kaukauna, the fourth of six children. When the Depression struck, Dan's family moved out to the farm in Askeaton where the city boy became a country boy and met many of his lifelong friends. Soon after, he received the calling to the priesthood and left for St. Nazianz Seminary where he learned Latin, Greek and German among other things. At age 14, while at the seminary, he lost his mother and a short time later the family moved back to town.
As Word War II started and his brothers and friends went off to war, Dan again heard a call, this time to serve. The required high school diploma wasn't available at the seminary so he transferred to Kaukauna High School. After receiving his diploma, he joined the Army Air Corps. and became a plane mechanic working on B17's.
After the war he attended Marquette University and received his Business Administration degree, making many friends along the way. He had to put his plans to attend Marquette University Law School on hold when he was called back into the service during the Korean War. When he got out of the service, he attended University of Wisconsin Law School. It was at Madison that he met his beloved Rose Marie Morrison - they married seven years later in 1962 at Immaculate Conception Church in Milwaukee. During those seven years, Dan opened his law practice in Kimberly and purchased and remodeled the former Holy Name priest house on Kimberly Avenue. Once it was finished, he and his bride moved in. They were blessed with two girls and three boys.
As a husband and father, Dan and Rose Marie provided a welcoming home to all - inviting friends, relatives and neighbors in for tea or drinks and lively conversation. He had a cottage in Spread Eagle, Wisconsin, where he could get away each summer weekend to enjoy his children, and loved to invite guests to share in the fun. He was a supporter of his children's activities: sports, piano recitals, scouts and anything else they took an interest in. He loved to travel out West with friends and family - skiing in the winter and enjoying the Rockies in the summer.
As an attorney, Dan loved the law and all its intricacies and subtleties. He loved to use the law to do good and help others, especially the underdog. He mentored many young lawyers over the years. He really enjoyed his clients, as he was truly interested in them. Many former clients would pop back in to visit years later.
As a man of faith and community, Dan was a devout Catholic and loving counselor. He was an active Knights of Columbus and 4th Degree member and served proudly as Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 44.
A lifelong student, Dan had a love of history and learning. He instilled this passion in his five children, for whom he worked tirelessly and lovingly to send all to college and graduate school. He taught his children that no historical marker was too insignificant to drive by and every winding canyon road should be taken for the adventure.
Anyone who met Dan knew he had the gift of gab long before he kissed the Blarney stone. He loved to talk with anyone he encountered. He enjoyed meeting new people, running into acquaintances at Van Abel's Supper Club or the post office and catching up with old friends. After retiring, Dan moved to St. Paul Villa in Kaukauna where he enjoyed four years filled with familiar faces and warm memories with wonderful friends and staff.
Dan joined the Villa Voices Choir, touring nursing homes in the Valley. Even as a young man Dan had the gift of a beautiful Irish tenor voice. He loved to sing any time anywhere. His most requested song was Danny Boy.
Dan knew that all his achievements were the result of the love, help and support of the people of Kimberly, Kaukauna and Askeaton. The Burns family wishes to thank family, friends and neighbors for all the kindness and support you have shown, especially in the last year. We especially thank the St. Paul Villa and Hospice Staff for the love and care they showed our Dad over the years.

    Obituary:
Thomas R. Burns, 64, Waupaca, passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2011. He was born on April 29, 1947, in Milwaukee, the son of Dr. Robert and Mary Virginia (Moore) Burns.
Tom grew up in Kimberly, where he attended Holy Name Church and Grade School, graduated from Xavier High School in 1966, graduated from UW-Oshkosh in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Human Services, and earned the degree of Master of Science in Communicative Disorders from UW-Stevens Point. He worked as a Speech and Language Pathologist in the Manawa and Weyauwega schools, the Weyauwega/Fremont School.
Music was an important part of his life. Tom learned to play guitar while in high school and he loved his life as a performer, singing and playing his guitar and banjo with a group or solo. He loved being able to perform with his dad and two brothers at various events, especially near St. Patrick's Day, calling their Irish group "The Burns Boys and sometimes Dad". He enjoyed the Packers, golfing, fishing, hunting and woodcrafting. Tom loved his family. His grandchildren were the light of his life.

He is further survived by his "adopted family", Kassy Etzig, Dasia Franz and Ashtyn Kenitz; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Virginia "Ginny" Burns; two brothers, Mike Burns and Pat Burns; grandparents, Florence and George Moore, Florence and Dan Burns; uncles, Art Lauer, Jack Burns and Jack Moore; and aunts, Rose Marie Burns and Joan Moore.
