    Vander Velden, Wilmer "Bill"Wilmer "Bill" Vander Velden, 80, lifelong Green Bay area resident, died Mo nday, Dec. 22, 2003, after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was bo rn March 28, 1923, in Isaar to Antone and Catherine (Hermsen) Vander Velde n. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. Wilmer marr ied Fern L. Verstoppen on June 14, 1947, at St. John the Baptist Cathol ic Church. Bill worked at Pauly Cheese Company until his retirement in 198 5. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling, hunting with his sons, grandson s, brothers and nephews, fishing and spending time at his cabin. He w as a member of St. Joseph Parish and the Holy Name Society.Survivors include his wife, Fern; five children and their spouses, Linda a nd Dave Damro, Green Bay; Gene and Lynn Vander Velden, Little Suamico; Way ne and Rose Vander Velden, Random Lake; Cheryl and Craig Parks, Crivitz; G len and Kathy Vander Velden, Sturgeon Bay; his grandchildren, Wess (Kore y) Damro, Chad (fiance, Cya) Damro, Nathan (Melissa) Damro, Nik Damro, Lis sa (Tom) Miller, Peter, Sam, Kate and Tony Vander Velden, Joe, Chris, Da ve and Chelsea Parks, Ben, Jake and Zach Vander Velden; his great-grandchi ldren, Bray and Tyler Damro, Jacob Damro, Tyler, Tanner and Stephanie Mill er; his brothers, sisters and their spouses, Virgil and Eva Vander Velde n, Verona McNamara, his identical twin and best pal, Elmer and Lorraine Va nder Velden, Mary and John Kosinski, Gladys and Bud Ambrosius, Gerald a nd Jean Vander Velden, Mrs. Henry (Joyce) Vander Velden; brother-in-law a nd sister-in-law, Virgil and Carol Verstoppen.He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Vander Velden; brothers-in-l aw and sisters-in-law, John McNamara, Melvin and Evelyn Verstoppen, and Da wn Verstoppen.Friends may call at St. Joseph Catholic Church, corner of Ninth St. and 12 th Ave., from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday. The Mass of Christian Burial wi ll be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Michael Ingo ld officiating. Burial will be in the Cemetery of the Holy Sepulchre of S t. John the Baptist, Howard.In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Wilmer's na me to benefit cancer research and treatment.
    Blaney Funeral Home is assisting the family.
