    Obituary:
    b>Kugler, Ann J.
Ann J. Kugler, Appleton. Our dear mother, Ann Josephine (nee Hegel) Kugler, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2007, 3 months after she was diagnosed with lung cancer. She was born to Josef and Elizabeth (Bohn) Hegel on August 30, 1922, and grew up with her 4 sisters in Kaukauna. She lived her life in service to others starting in her teenage years when she worked as a housekeeper for "young Dr. Boyd," forgoing the fun of high school to help pay off some family debts. She married the love of her life, our dad, John Kugler, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kaukauna on May 9, 1946. (Engagement photo above). Together they enjoyed 58 wonderful years together until his death on August 22, 2004. They happily welcomed the birth of their children: John Michael on November 14, 1948; Patricia Ann on February 26, 1950; and Janet Marie on August 8, 1958. Many a neighbor child, niece and nephew parked their bikes behind our Walden Ave. home because it was 1 block from Mead Pool. They never left without cookies. We think mom may have raised half the neighborhood. She was surely the "cookie queen." Mom was a devout Catholic and especially enjoyed praying the Rosary, for everyone's health - both physically and spiritually. At Sacred Heart, she was a member of the Christian Mothers and worked in the cafeteria - she would help me (Patty) eat the food I couldn't get down - a necessity to earn recess time (thanks mom). She was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church for 45 years, and used to joke about being the youngest member of the cleaning team at age 75. During WWII, mom worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital in the nursery. Because of the war shortage, she learned many skills normally done by RN's. Though she thought herself undereducated, she mastered many challenges a college grad might have declined. Mom leaves behind her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren whom she proudly adored: John (Linda) and their children Ian and Ben Kline, and David, Maria, and Grace (who shared Grandma's August 30th birthday) Kugler, La Crosse; Patricia (George) and their children Elizabeth and Jonathan Whitely, Middleton, WI; Janet (Steve) and their son Matthew Seelow, Larsen, WI. Her sisters: Helen (Jerry) Williamsen and Margaret (Frank) Napieralla both of Kaukauna. Sisters-in-law: Grace (Joe) Kugler and Dorothy (Lawrence) Kugler, both of Appleton. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews and friends - especially Wilma Kreuger and Dorothy Gregory. She was preceded in death by her husband, her dear sisters Elizabeth and Mary, and all dad's brothers and sisters. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 31, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2331 E. Lourdes Dr., Appleton, with the Rev. Donald Zuleger officiating, and Rev. Harold Berryman concelebrating. Friends may call directly at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Memorials can be made to: St. Bernadette Catholic Church, any children's organization (such as Special Olympics of WI), OR the American Lung Association.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Colony Oaks Care Center and to Attorney Craig Kubiak for the compassionate and cheerful care shown to Ann and her family.
