    Obituary:
Donald E. Schommer, 92, Neenah, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at ThedaCare Medical Center, Neenah. He was born on August 13, 1924, in Menasha, the son of Harry and Mary (Mackin) Schommer. Don was united in marriage to Alice Behm, on March 6, 1948, in Lynwood, California. He was an avid golfer, artist, Packers and Brewers fan, and misguided Cowboy fan. Donald was a proud U.S. Army, WWII veteran, with the 248th Infantry, having served in General Patton's Third Army at the Battle of the Bulge. Following his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in January of 1946, he enlisted in the Wisconsin National Guard, until he was honorably discharged in March of 1949. Donald was employed with American Can for 40 years, and was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Parish, Neenah. His family will greatly miss his witty sense of humor.
Donald is survived by his wife of 69 years: Alice; 3 children: Peggy (Rick) Brinkman, Cliff (Pat) Schommer, and Patrick (Judy) Schommer; 3 grandchildren: Christinna (Erik) Kersten, Shelly (Shawn) Rohde, and Jessica (Corey) Stier; 5 great-grandchildren: Carter and Devin Rohde, Oliver, Quinnlee, and Ledon Stier; a sister: Maureen Sokel; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, and 4 sisters: Erin (Harold) Anklam, Margie (Mel) Gottfried, Patricia (James) Webb Sr., and Dawn (Bob) Pawlowski.
Private family services were held Saturday, April 8, 2017, at the Kessler Funeral Home with Fr. Michael Ingold officiating, and his body laid to rest in St. Margaret Cemetery, Neenah, with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, Donald's family kindly asks you to plant a tree in his memory or to make a donation to the Neenah Animal Shelter, 951 County Road G, Neenah, WI 54956.
Donald's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Doctors and Nurses in the ICU at ThedaCare Medical Center, Neenah.
