    Obituary:
    Edward M. Van Elzen, of Appleton, age 87, passed away at Brewster Village on Monday, October 4, 2004. He was born in Kimberly on November 18, 1916, the son of the late John and Henrietta Van Elzen. He was united in marriage to Elaine Parent, with whom he spent 48 wonderful years. She preceded him in death in June 1989. Edward was a WWII Army Veteran and a member of the Screaming Eagles in the 101st Airborne Division. He served in Normandy at the Battle of the Bulge. He loved fishing, hunting, and playi ng cards with family and friends at his cabin in Armstrong Creek. Elaine and Edward enjoyed many trips together to Montana. Edward treasured his family and took great pleasure in their many vacations to Thousand Island Lake. He always enjoyed smoking his corncob pipe.
    Edward will be sadly missed by his nine children: Bonnie (Tom) Rohde, Arkansas; Tom (Judy) Van Elzen, Appleton; Jerry (Cheryl) Van Elzen, Appleton; Cliff (Kathy) Van Elzen, Oconomowoc; Edward Van Elzen, Jr, Michigan; David Van Elzen, Appleton; Daniel (Cathy) Van Elzen, Appleton; Lucy Van Elze n, Montana; and Mark (Collette) Van Elzen, Minnesota. He also leaves behind many grandchildren: John, Bob, Chad, and Tim Rohde; Jeff and Jamie V an Elzen; Lisa and Sarah Van Elzen; Matt, Amber, and Jessica Van Elzen; Ch ristopher and Madeline Van Elzen; Dylan Van Elzen; and Lindsey Jo Van Elze n. He is further survived by several great grandchildren and two sisters: Agnes Knabenbauer, Kimberly; and Sister Rosaline Van Elzen, Illinois.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine; and 10 brothers and sisters.
    Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 7, 20 04 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 309 Desnoyer St., Kaukauna. Visitation w ill be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Visitati on will also be held Wednesday evening at the funeral home from 5 - 8 p. m. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Kaukauna.
    The family wishes to give a sincere thank you to the staff of Brewster Vil lage for the care and kindness given to dad.
