    Obituary:
Worker Killed In Fall at Lock
Elzear Meulemans, 52, Dies in Plunge Near Kaukauna Canal
A fix River Navigation Company wheelsman fell to his death at 11 o'clock this morning, when he plunged off a 6-foot wall with a heavy cart and a 250-pound ste?? propellor near the Third government lock in Kaukauna, according to Sheriff Andrew J. Schiltz.
He was Elzear Meulemans, 52, 40? Desnoyer street, Kaukauna and was killed instantly. However, it was not determined immediately wheather death was due to his head striking the concrete or attributable to the heavy cart which landed on him, Lieutenant Jack Frenzl, sheriff special investigator, said.
Meulemans, a tug wheelsman in the summer and repair man in the winter, was moving the propellor along the cement walk overlooking the wall, toward the tug George I Ryan. The walk was entirely dry, so it is unlikely he could have slipped. He apparently was wheeling his load backwards and didn't realize he was close to the edge of the wall, fellow employes told Frenz.
    No One Near Him
No one was in the vicinity of the wall when the accident occured. Berhard George and Fred L. Borde, fellow workers, heart the wheel clatter onto the ledge and rushed over to help. they fournd the man with the right side of his head split open and the cart on op of him.
Kaukauna police and a doctor were called immediately. Eldor Broehm, sheriff's clerk, also was at the scene.
The load in itself was not too much for one man to handle with the flat cart, James Bambery, company manager, said. it is customary, however, for several men to work on such a project. he added. The others expressed suprise that Meulemans would start on the project alone since he would need help later in putting the propellor ini place.
He had worked for the Fox river company 18 year.
