    Obituary:
Sherwood - Donald P. "Grizz" Grissman (83), passed away on Saturday, December 23, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Appleton after a lengthy illness.
Don is survived by his three daughters: Shelly (Tom) Jost, Lori (John) Krueger, and Julie (Mike) Morris; 8 grandchildren: Stephanie (Mike) Halbach, Danielle (fiancé - Tom Schneider) Jost, Whitney (Kyle) Kees, Ashley Krueger, Kyle Krueger, Logan Morris, Luke Morris and Levi Morris; five great grandchildren: Aaron, Zachary, Colton and Josie Halbach and Jensyn Kees; and one sister, Helen (Marvin) Baeten. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Don is preceded in death by his wife, Eunice (Welhouse); parents: Mary (Schaefer) and Herman Grissman; siblings: Colette, Joyce (Dave) Alt, Robert (Violet), Carl (Mary), Gerry (Toni), Dick (Bea), and Roy (Luella) Grissman.
Don grew up in Kaukauna, the youngest of 9 children and as he recalled of his childhood, "lived a life of adventure (and mischief) greater than that of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn!" He began working at a young age and learned different trades, but the one he took the most pride in was his mason work. Besides working construction, Don always had side jobs, building boathouses or laying stone for many people in the community.
Don proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, and was a veteran of the Korean War in the Artillery Division. After his service, he and his wife moved to the Sherwood area and started a family. Don loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and spending time "up north" with his family every chance he could. He loved to tinker and "create" out of the things he collected, rather than buy something new. He always had a story to tell and would often visit his family or stop and shoot the bull with his friends. Despite his strong appearance and rough edges, Don was a sentimental man, where the sappiest Hallmark card or handwritten note would move him to shed a tear, which his family inflicted on him whenever they could. The one thing that Don did not have, was patience. Nothing was ever fast enough for him, and that is how he lived his life, including being reunited with his "bride" Eunice. And so he could not wait for Christmas - to meet her again under the mistletoe.
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 28, 2017 at ST. PETER LUTHERAN CHURCH (43 N. 3rd St. Hilbert) beginning at 2:00 p.m. until time of Funeral at 4:00 p.m. The Rev. Joel Brassfield will officiate. Military honors, conducted by the Kupsch-Brockmann American Legion Post 127 will be held after the funeral, with a luncheon to follow. Don will be buried in the church cemetery. To sign the guest book, please visit oconnellfh.com.
pecial thanks to the Doctors, nurses, Chaplains and staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital, who took great care of our Dad, especially the ICU team! Also to Pastor Krueger who visited and prayed for Dad often.
