Obituary:
Sally S. Thelen, age 96, of Manitowoc, died on Sunday, May 13, 2012, in Sturgeon Bay.
Sally was born on August 13, 1915, in St. John, WI, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Lauer) Thiel. She graduated from Appleton High School with the class of 1933 and Oshkosh State Teacher's College in 1935. Sally married Herbert M. Thelen on February 9, 1946, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in St. John. He preceded her in death on April 14, 2003. Sally was employed at Montgomery Wards for 46 years until her retirement as office manager in 1983. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish and the Christian Mothers. Over a 50 year span, Sally served as a volunteer for St. Vincent DePaul, Holy Innocents, and Holy Family Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law: Tom (Gail) Thelen, Adrian, MI; one daughter: Mary Lueck and special friend Gary Stuebs, Sturgeon Bay; two grandchildren: Matt (Allison) Farra, Lansing, MI; Andy (Michelle) Farra, Chicago,Ill; three great grandchildren: Payton Tipton, Adrian, MI; Caitlin Farra, Lansing, MI; Maya Farra, Chicago, Ill; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law: Hazel Thiel, Winneconne; Ann (Wally) Stemper, New Holstein. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband: Herbert M. Thelen; two brothers and one sister-in-law: Alex (Betty) Thiel; Gilbert Thiel; six sisters and five brothers-in-law: Verona (Frank) Jenny; Walburga "Bob" (Clarence) Mueller; Delphine (Henry) Herbeck; Laura (Harvey) Nash; Mary Ann (William) Foxgrover; Sr. Rita Thiel; and infant sister Catherine Thiel; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Lester (Hildegard) Thelen.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2012, at St. Francis of Assisi-Waldo Site, North 14th Street and Waldo Boulevard, Manitowoc. Rev. Daniel Felton and Rev. Gerald Foley will concelebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with entombment to follow at Knollwood Mausoleum, 1500 Hwy 310, Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10:30 a.m. The Reinbold and Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc is assisting the Thelen family.
