Schmidt, Marie A
Marie Schmidt, 90, Kimberly, passed away at St. Paul Home in Kaukauna on Saturday, April 19, 2008. Marie was born in Kimberly on April 24, 1917, daughter of the late Peter and Marie (Wachtendonk) Van Sambeek, Sr. She married Raymond W. Schmidt at Holy Name Church in Kimberly on June 29, 1946. He preceded her in death in October of 2001. Marie will always be remembered as a hard-working, generous woman. In addition to their own children, she and Ray opened their home to foster children over the years. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, keeping in touch with distant relatives and friends, and when necessary, caring for aging parents and friends.
Marie is survived by two daughters, Mary (Rich) Piwko, Chicago; and Deb (Fred) Gresbach, Surprise, Ariz.; a granddaughter, Sara (Scott) Battteiger, Kenosha, and their daughter Katie; and a special niece, Sandra Schmidt Chady, Exeland, Wis. She is also survived by a brother, Tom (Maria) Van Sambeek, Stockbridge; two sisters, Mickey Gray, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and Pat (Lester) Plutz, Frisco, Texas; six sisters-in-law, Rita Van Sambeek, Kimberly; Delores Van Sambeek, San Jose, Calif.; Ione Van Sambeek, Kimberly; Nancy Van Sambeek, Oregon, and Eva Mae Helms, Randolph, N.Y. There are also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ray, in 2001; brothers, Peter Jr.; John; Sam; Bill; and Chick; a sister-in-law, Rosemary Van Sambeek; and a brother-in-law, Rick Gray.
The funeral liturgy for Marie will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at HOLY SPIRIT PARISH KIMBERLY SITE, 604 E. Kimberly Avenue, with Fr. David Beaudry officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 p.m. until the time of the prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume at the church on Tuesday morning from 11 a.m. until the time of the mass.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at St. Paul Elder Services for their care and compassion during Maries time there. Your kindness has been much appreciated.
