By 1920 they (Albert and Ellen) had retired to Rushville, building a new h ouse, one with lots of windows like Ellen had always wanted. But she on ly enjoyed it a few year, dying June 9, 1924 from diabetes, just before in sulin was available. She was57 years old. Later, he (Albert) moved back to the farm operating it wi th the help of his sons, Matt and Bert. In the '30s he lost the farm to t he Modisett Brothers and the farm is now the property of the city of Rushv ille.Albert retired to Hay Springs and lived to, at that time, the very old a ge of 84. He loved dancing, going to the "Chicken Roost" every Sat. nigh t. He died Dec. 24, 1943.Albert and Ellen had 12 children: Martin (1889-1939), Elizabeth (1891-1962 ), Pete (1892-1976, Cornelius (1894-1906), Cornelia (1896-1898), twins: Ma ry (1898-1962), and Annie (1898-1973), Kate (1899-living at LaCrosse, Wisc onsin), Matt (1901-1980)Celia (1904-1991), Bert (1906-1985) and baby Albert (1907-1907).Martin Heesacker married the local school teacher, Theresa Lynch (1896-198 2) on Nov. 25, 1920. They farmed on the Flats a few years, then moved to R ushville operating a dairy til Martin's tragic death in 1939, when he w as dragged to death by ahorse. They had 7 Children: Bernard, Daytona Beach, FL; Rita, Mrs. Lela nd Pruden, Gordon, NE; Mark (1925-1987), Colleen, Mrs. Bill Murphy, Allian ce, NE; Norbert (1932-1946) died of polio at age 14; Florence, Mrs. Leon O swald, Carroll, IA; and MaryEllen, Mrs. Tom Johnson, Minneapolis, MN;. They have 19 grandchildren a nd 3 great grandchildren.Elizabeth "Liz" Heesacker married Frank Dieriex (1889-1963) on Nov. 6, 191 2. They ranched and farmed on the Niobrara river til they retired to Rushv ille. Their son, Dave, now operates the home place. They had five childre n: Francis, Mrs. NormaSheaff, Hillsboro, OR; Alberta (1914-1993) Mrs. Ralph Frederiksen, Victori a, TX; Marie, Mrs. Leonard "Bud" Clements (killed WW II) then Mrs. John Cl ements (died in 1962) then Mrs. Albert Brau, Dodge City, KA, now livi ng in Alliance, NE; Eileen, Mrs.Bob Sandman, Louisville, KY; and Dave, married to Gwen Jungck, Rushvill e, NE. They have 21 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and 17 great-gre at grandchildren.Pete Heesacker married Genevieve Heiting (1899) on Feb. 22, 1922. They ha ve one adopted son, Rodney. They farmed on the Mirage Flats, then retir ed to Hay Springs. Genevieve now lives at the Pioneer Manor Nursing Ho me in Hay Springs.Cornelius was dragged to death by a horse while herding sheep. He was 12 y ears old.
Cornelia died from diphtheria at the age of 2.Mary Heesacker, one of the twins, married Ernest Blum. They had two childr en: Erneta, married to Robert "Bob" Roark, Cortez, Colorado; Betty, marri ed to Eugene "Gene" Kearns, Rushville, Nebraska. The other twin, Annie, and also the next daughter, Kate, became nuns.Matt Heesacker married Anna Vocu (Died 1973), then married Phyllis Kiemi tz of Chadron, NE. Both were killed in a tragic two car collision ea st of Chadron in February 1980.Celia Heesacker married Arthur Kriegshauser (1903-1973) on Oct. 10, 192 7. They lived in Rushville where he worked for the Musser-Mosler Cattle C o. til he retired. They have 3 children: Ila, Mrs. Lloyd "Buddy" Tiensvo ld (1927-1990) Rushville, NEBill married to Marilyn Qualls, Omaha, NE; Ann, Mrs. Ed Dietrich, Amarill o, Texas; They have 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.Bert Heesacker (1906-1985) married Kay Gaspers (1911-1980) on Oct. 4, 194 3. OLD SETTLERS OF SHERIDAN COUNTY
From the HAY SPRINGS NEWS, HAY SPRINGS, NEBRASKA -- March 1, 1935
In searching about for another old settlers write-up, to present to the re aders of the News, it was not necessary to go far. Down on Mirage Fla ts we learned to know the man of this story, many years ago.All during our lifetime we have learned to judge a man by his honest y, as a citizen and neighbor.Over in Limberg, Holland, where the real "Dutch" live and thrive, Martin C ora Heesacker also lived and thrived until 1854, when they migrated to Gre en Bay, Wisconsin. Here Mr. Heesacker took up land at $1.25 per acre. The re was a large Dutch
settlement here the market place was called Holland Town.Mr. Heesacker's five brothers and three sisters also came to this countr y. They had among their things, when they arrived here, the legacy le ft to them by their father in the old country. Upon arriving here, they de cided to divide the cash intoequal parts among themselves. Each persons share was $.29 each, in Americ an money.The land which Martin Heesacker bought was mostly timber and consisted lar gely of pine, oak, beech, basswood and elm. Much of it was good timber f or sawing. As the years passed, four boys and four girls were born to th is couple, among them our
present neighbor, Albert Heesacker, born November 21, 1859.The Heesacker children did not only attend the local school, but help ed in the timber and in the field and household duties. Boys and girls ali ke were taught to bind grain, and help with the general duties connected w ith farming. By these metho
the Heesackers lived and prospered in this country.As more land was cleared and the farm acreage increased, better and quick er methods were necessary to assist in the production of crops. Realizi ng this the Heesacker boys cut 75 cords of wood, one season and haul ed it four miles to a charcoal kiand sold it for $2.00 per cord. The proceeds of this effort, were invest ed in their first harvesting mower and reaper. This was a great improveme nt over the old hand cradle.Albert worked at home until he was 21, and having a desire to follow the t hrashing trade, he managed to get a job of this nature for eight falls.The first thrashing machine he remembers was a Kaiser which had no siev es like many of the farmers will remember.In the winter time Mr. Heesacker worked in the lumber camps his chief j ob being "swamping". This is clearing the way for those who drags the lo gs out of the woods after the trees have been felled, trimmed and cut in p roper lengths. This was heawork, but it was also a method of earning three meals a day and a little c hange besides, not to mention the invaluable experience of taking ca re of ones self.In 1884 Mr. Heesacker made a trip west to look over some land in Platte co unty, Nebraska. What he saw convinced him that there was a chance to get g ood land cheap and build up a home of his own. He returned to Wisconsin a nd at a place calledWrightown, met a young lady named Ellen Onkels. Friendship grew to love a nd while Ellen was quite willing to share her life with his, she would n ot consent to go out into a strange new land where there were so few wom en and comforts. After argumenshe finally consented, and on November 7th, 1888, there was a big weddi ng at Holland Town. The entire community joined in the celebration, and Al bert says that at least 100 gallons of beer were consumed.With his bride, Mr. Heesacker arrived in Sheridan County, December 31, 188 8. At once the newcomers began to look around for a suitable location up on a good piece of land. They chose the N. W. 1 of secti on 32 T 30 N, R 45W.This was a claim that had been filed on by one Geo. Brookhouse who liv ed in Chadron. The deal was made Jan. 12, 1889. Later on he bought more la nd of some bachelor neighbors in Sec. 32-5 the first thing most necessa ry to do was to build a house
and dig a well.Even to begin this a team and wagon were necessary so he went over to Fra nk Wassenburgs a neighbor about 3 miles east and bought a pair of 3 year o ld steers for which he paid $70.00 cash. These steers out of which he plan ned to make an ox team wwild on the range and used to neither rope nor yolk. These steers in quest ion happened to be out on the range on the south fork of Spring Creek whe re Andrew Scheenan lived. Albert borrowed a yoke here and with the he lp of several neighbors includitheir former owner Frank Wassenburg they managed to catch them and a re al amusing time they had. They asked Albert if he knew how to break oxen a nd he answered in the negative. So with ropes and halters on them these m en about 3 to each steerprepared to yoke them to the wagon while Albert watched the fun. The stee rs bucked and bawled and turned over coming up wrong side to, finally he s aid to the 12 year old Wassenburg boy, "go to the barn and get me a bund le fork". With fork in handAlbert gets on the wagon and yells, "thats no way to break oxen take th em ropes off and turn em loose.How are you going to keep them from running into the breaks with you and s mashing the wagon and maybe you too? Never mined just turn em loose he ans wered. And turn em loose they did and the oxen promptly started for the ro ugh ground and so he jjabed one with the fork crowding it ahead so as to keep them on level grou nd and he ran them around on the prairie until their tongues hung out a nd there being no fences he headed them for a near by cornfield thinki ng he would teach them to eat cornwhen they reached the field he permitted them to stop being about played o ut. He jumped off and pulled an ear of corn and offered it to the oxen b ut with a snort they bolted. Albert jumped on the wagon and chased them ar ound the prairie some morebrought them back and this time got them to eat a little corn.In this way he worked with them for a couple of hours teaching them to st op at the word whoa, finally driving them back to Scheenans where the m en were still lolling about. He drove up and laughed at their surprise wh en the now thoroughly subdueoxen stopped at the word. Where have you been all the time they want ed to know. Oh just to Hay Springs and got a glass of beer. From then on t hese range steers soon became a useful pair of oxen. He got a breaking pl ow broke sod and with the help
a couple of neighbors laid up a sod house 16x30 in 3 days.Next he broke 10 acres and put it into wheat harrowing it 4 times. His nei ghbor John R. Kelly hired him to do some breaking for him and he took po rk in payment for the work.Some of the neighbors said, you can't do much with a green pair of Oxen li ke that. But Albert says beginning March 6th the day he bought the stee rs up to July 4th he had broken sod for his house and 36 more acres for fa rming and made three 50 miltrips to Clarks saw mill in the timber for wood and lumber besides mo re or less work around home. They were exceptionally good walkers and wh en he was on his way home from the timber and saw some one threshing clo se to the road he would run over tohis favorite job of hand feeding the machine awhile and then trot off do wn the road to overtake his oxen.There was a fair harvest that first year and Albert cut his wheat with a c radle and his faithful Ellen bound it by hand. In the fall Pat Moran th at loguacious Irishman so well known here in an early day came with his n ew Maseline machine to threthe crop. Albert put his oxen on the power and Pat declared they can't ke ep up with the horses, but they did just the same and that evening Albe rt says to Pat if you had all teams like that you could just send your dri ver home and save $2.00 per daLater however the dry years came and they were completely dried out raisi ng neither crops nor feed. Just 2 miles east and a half north on the nor th branch of spring creek was the Ira Willis place which grew hay on the c reek bottoms and theHeesackers leased this on a 50-50 basis some cattle going with the plac e. Here they stayed during 96-97 and then returned to their own home. Ma ny of the settlers were leaving those days and one day their nearest neigh bor to the west John Brown withis family and everything else possible loaded on the wagon drove up and c alled to Albert as they went by come on lets go back east this country wi ll never amount to anything. Albert apparently was ready to go but he we nt into the house and spoke this wife about it. She thought a moment and then said firmly "no! we'll st ay. And stay they did though at times it seemed almost a heart breaking st ruggle yet by the better years that followed their patience was finally re warded.Little by little more improvements and horses and other livestock and mach inery were added to the farm.As the years passed 12 children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Heesacker and mo st of them grew up to help their parents work the land and build up the ho me which seemed permanently and happily established. But it is never all s unshine in any mans likand sorrow entered here also that their hearts might be tried.Two of the children died from dyptheria. In 1906 while heading the farm fl ock of sheep their son Cornelius was found dead on the prairie. His pony h ad fallen. And the boys foot had caught in the stirrup and he was dragg ed to death. It was a h
blow but bravely born.People of Christian faith as they were always feel keenly the chastiseme nt of Gods hand, but their faith is likewise sufficient to carry them thro ugh.Later on also the loving wife and mother who had labored so patiently by h is side was called away, but again he knew that the Master who gives so ab undantly may also take away and so bowed in submission.At the present time most of children have married and established hom es of their own or are following other occupations.Mr. Heesacker is still at home on the old farm in Grant precinct with h is two youngest sons, a much respected citizen and neighbor.

Obituary:
Mrs. Katherine Fink, aged 80 years, passed away at the home of her son, John, Route 1, Forest Junction, at 4 o'clock Tuesday morning after an illness of two years. She was born in the town of Woodville, Calumet County and lived in that vicinity all of her life. She was a member of St. Francis Church, Hollandtown, and the Altar Society. Survivors are two daughters: Mrs. Elizabeth Coenen of Menasha and Mrs. August Van Remortel of De Pere; eight sons, Martin of Hollandtown; Joseph of Oregon, William of Wrightstown, John of Hollandtown, Edward of Kaukauna, Steve of Green Bay, Ben of St. John, and Nic of Kaukauna; one brother, Albert Heesacker of Nebraska; 48 grandchildren and 31 great grandhildren. The body is at the Greenwood Funeral Home. The date of the funeral has not yet been deterined, but the rites will be held from St. Francis church, Hollandtown with Rev Cornelius Raymakers officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

MartinJ. Fink, route 3, Kaukauna died at 4:30 a.m. Monday following a six week illness. He was 86. Born March 3, 1883 in the Town of Woodville, Mr. Fink farmed in the Town of Buchanan and also did mason work. He retired in 1955 when he moved to the Town of Holland. He was a member of the St. Francis Society. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Catholic Church with Rev. Edward Kilsdonk officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Kaukauna. The rosary will be prayed at 8 o'clock this evening.
Survivors are his wife Hannah; two daughters, Mrs. Willard Eileen Liebergen, route 3 Kaukauna, and Mrs. Robert Schwatzbauer, Menasha; two sons, Francis Fink, route 1 Menasha, and M/Sgt. Leo A Fink, USAF Peru, Ind.; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Eileen Liebergen, 92, Kaukauna, passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, November 12, 2010, at St. Paul Home. Eileen was born in Hollandtown, on December 27, 1917, daughter of the late Martin and Mayme (Duffy) Fink. On October 3, 1938, she married Willard Liebergen in Hollandtown. He preceded her in death on June 28, 1988.
Over the years, Eileen was employed at White Clover Dairy, as well as Van Abels. Many will remember how she loved to play cards with friends and relatives.
Eileen is survived by two children, Jerry (Judy) Liebergen, Kaukauna; and Lois (Todd) Luedtke, Little Chute; a son-in-law, Jack Heilman, Kaukauna; six grandchildren, Dawn (Bob) Dercks, Diane (Gary) Soltwisch, Bill (Ann) Heilman, Nate (Melissa) Luedtke, Brandon Luedtke and his special friend, Emily Van Dyke, and Andy Luedtke; eight great-grandchildren, Danielle, Brian and Nick Dercks; Gregg, Lindsay and Sam Soltwisch; and Jonathon and Rebecca Heilman. There is also a sister-in-law, Agnes Liebergen.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Joni Heilman; a son, Bill Liebergen; and a brother, Francis (Alice) Fink.
The funeral liturgy will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 15, 2010, at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH - ST. FRANCIS CHURCH in Hollandtown, with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Monday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

Alberts, Pewaukee; seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by
a brother; Clyde (LaVerne) Coenen, Appleton. She was preceded in death by five brothers; and a sister.
Funeral services for Evelyn will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at 11:30 a.m. at the Laemmrich Funeral Home,
312 Milwaukee St., Menasha, with Father Richard Allen officiating. Entombment will be in the Shrine of Heaven
Mausoleum, Neenah. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the hour of the service.

Marvin M. Coenen, Menasha Age 84, passed away unexpectedly Friday, September 18, 1998, at his home. He was born April 12, 1914, in De Pere, son of the late William and Elizabeth (Fink) Coenen. Marvin was employed at Wisconsin Tissue Mills for 20 years prior to his retirement in 1978. He was a United States Army veteran serving in WW II in the Red Arrow divisiion in New Guinea. Marvin was a member of the Disabled Veterans and St. John Catholic Church in Menasha. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed fishing and boating. Marvin is survived by two brothers and three sisters-in-law,. Clyde (LaVerne) Coenen, Appleton; Carl (Esther) Coenen, Neenah; and Leone Coenen, Menasha; a sister, Evelyn Keberlein, Menasha; and numberous nieces and nephews. Marvin was also preceded in death by three brothers, Edward Clarence and William Coenen, and a sister, Lola Martin. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, September 21, 1998, at St. John Catholic church in Menasha with Rev. Paul Radetski officiating. Interment will be in ST. Mary Cemetery, Menasha. Obituary:
Clayton J. "Clyde" Coenen, of Appleton, WI, found peace with the Lord on April 22, 2009, with family surrounding him at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton. He was born April 27, 1916, in De Pere, WI, son of the late William and Elizabeth (Fink) Coenen. Clyde married LaVerne Tillman in Appleton on December 27, 1947. Together, they shared a family-focused life full of faith and love.
Clyde is survived by his wife, LaVerne, of 61 years, and his children; Dan (Sally) Coenen of Athens, GA, Amy Coenen (Arthur Anderson) of Milwaukee, WI, Doug (Cathy) Coenen of Richboro, PA, Chip (LuAnn) Coenen of Appleton, Paul (Michelle) Coenen of Appleton, and Beth (Steve) Strohbusch of Milwaukee. "Papa" is also survived by 16 grandchildren: Tim (Ann), Tom, Michael, Amy, Claire, Andy, Sara, Sam, Kristin (Nick Kelly), Ben, Dan, Clay, Laura, Maria, John and Will; his great-grandson Aaron; and many other family members and friends with whom Clyde shared his positive and optimistic spirit.
Clyde was preceded in death by his son, Greg, who passed away on June 23, 2008, and Greg's wife, Peg, who passed away on January 12, 2005.
Clyde lived in Neenah and Appleton, WI, and Fort Lauderdale, FL. He was guided and inspired by his beloved mother, his Catholic faith, his deep work ethic, his dedication to service, and his love of life.
Clyde attended St. Patrick's School in Menasha, Neenah High School, and Lawrence University. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1950. He spent much of his career as a wholesale lumber broker, having founded Coenen Land and Lumber through which he developed the Applegate subdivision.
During his youth, Clyde was recognized as an Eagle Scout, as captain of his high school football team and as a state-champion wrestler. A World War II veteran, he served as lead bombardier on 35 missions for the 8th Air Force of the Army Air Corps. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, and other military honors. His Flying Cross citation stated, "The technical skill and courageous devotion to duty displayed by Lt. Coenen on these occasions reflect the greatest credit upon himself and the Army air forces."
Clyde served his community in many ways - as a supervisor for the Town of Grand Chute, as a key innovator and early chairman of the Xavier Food Fair, as a deeply committed parishioner at St. Mary Parish in Appleton, and as a supporter of Habitat for Humanity. He was a member of the Appleton American Legion Post #38 and Knights of Columbus (Fourth Degree).
Clyde had a passion for building, inventing and creating connections with individual people and the broader community. With his own hands, he converted a barracks at Madison's Truax field into a first home for his new family and later constructed his longtime home on Spencer Street in Appleton.
At the heart of Clyde's life was service to others. His volunteer work included building and renovation projects at Appleton's Monte Alverno Retreat House, Villa Hope/Villa Phoenix, the Appleton ABC (A Better Chance) House, as well as projects at Camp WeHaKee in northern Wisconsin and St. Maurice Parish in Ft. Lauderdale. His work on behalf of St. Mary's included creation of the Boy and Girl Scout Rooms, management of the All Pro Paint-Up Bowl, development of the St. Ann Community Room, and renovations to the sacristy, rectory and convent.
Ahead of his time as an advocate for recycling and reuse of materials, Clyde received a U.S. patent for a device to bundle newspapers. He never stopped thinking or tinkering, always looking for a better way to accomplish a task.
Special thanks are extended to Dr. Lee Vogel, the staffs at Touchmark and Cherry Meadows Hospice, Sister Joanne Goessl, OSF, and all of the family members and friends who have prayed for Clyde and helped him in countless ways.

Clarence A. Coenen (moe) 644 London St., Menasha Age 64, died unexpectedly Sunday morning at his home. He was born May 8, 1918 in DePere, and had been a resident of the Twin Cities most of his life. He was employed at the American Can Company for 42 years retiring June 1, 1980, and was also a member of their Quarter Century Club. Mr. Coenen was a member of Lenz Gazecki American Legion Club, the Germania's; a camp leader at the Boys Brigade Camp; and a noted bowler in this area for many years. He was a WW II Army Veteran. Coenen, Carl B., Neenah, Age 78, passed away peacefully at Peabody Manors Cherry Meadows. He was born September 21, 1923. Carl married Esther Reichel on August 23, 1947 in Neenah. He served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Galveston, Texas. Carl worked for over 40 years for Kimberly-Clark Corp. He served six years as an Alderman for the city of Neenah. Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing and carpentry and he lived spending time with his family. He was a charter member of St. Mark's Ev. Lutheran Church and he was a member of the American Legion Post #38 of Appleton. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Esther; four children: Gary Dianna) Coenen, Drawford, Georgia; Steven (Phyliss) coenen, Neenah; Cynthia (Paul) Kordus, Neenah; Pamela (Robert) Buss, Neenah; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Clayton "Clyde" (LaVerne) Coenen, Appleton; and a sister, Evelyn Keberlein, Menasha. Vincent B. VanRemortel, 88, De Pere, passed away Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at his home. The son of the late August and Cora (Fink) Van Remortel was born Oct. 17, 1922. Vince served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946. Vince married Janet Ambrose on Aug. 17, 1953, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in De Pere. He worked at Nicolet Paper Company in De Pere for many years, retiring in 1987. Vince was an avid Packer and De Pere Redbird fan, and enjoyed fishing up north. He had a legacy of service and faith to his church, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, De Pere, where he was a lifelong member.
Vince enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Vince is survived by his children, Joan (Daryl) Hutjens, Jim (Judy) VanRemortel, John (special friend, Judith) VanRemortel, all of De Pere; and Barb (Augustine) VanRemortel- Lopez, Alaska; grandchildren, Andrea (fiance, Scott) Hutjens, Nicole and Brad Hutjens, Katie and Joe VanRemortel, Eric and Andy VanRemortel; great-grandchildren, Brennan and Kaylee Hutjens; sister and brother, Laverne (Sis) Treml and Don (Mary Jane) VanRemortel. Obituary:
Doris M. Zegers, 83, died in the peace of faith on Friday, April 9, 2010. Her passing is just six months after the death of her husband of 60 years, Clarence J. Zegers. Doris and Clarence were married on May 30, 1949, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in De Pere. In May 2009, they shared a festive celebration of their diamond anniversary with their children and grandchildren. The couple were members of the St. Francis Xavier Parish, where Doris was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. In their later years together, Doris and Clarence later became members of Old St. Joseph Church on the campus of St. Norbert College.
Doris was born on Dec. 12, 1926, to the late August and Cora (Fink) Van Remortel. She graduated from De Pere High School in 1944 where she enjoyed playing clarinet in the marching band and also bowling with friends. She was a stenographer and legal secretary at the law firm of Smith & Smith in De Pere. In later years as her children grew, she was a secretary for the De Pere Chamber of Commerce, the De Pere School District and St. Norbert Abbey. However, she believed that her most important work was in their family home, where she and Clarence taught their children to pray and live the Catholic faith. There they learned by seeing thousands of examples of love and faith that are so large in the eyes of God.
Doris' ancestors were among the pioneering families who founded the Dutch Catholic settlement and church in southern Brown County. Her inheritance was a deep well of faith that sustained her throughout her life.
Her failing eyesight and health in later years did not dim her enthusiasm for the activities and accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She closely followed all of their work and school activities and was generous with prayers and praise. Doris was also blessed over the years with great friends and extended family, with whom she enjoyed playing cards and sharing conversation.
She will be sadly missed by her children and grandchildren, James and Mary (Smith) Zegers, Madison and their son, Andrew, Madison; John and Jean (VanWassenhoven) Zegers, De Pere and their children, Scott, New York City and Jenny, De Pere; Ann and Joseph Hilke, Plymouth and their daughters, Jennifer and Michelle; Donald and Teresa (Kanouse) Zegers, De Pere and their son, Daniel; Joseph and Karen (Pearson) Zegers, De Pere, and their daughters, Emily, Mariah and Olivia; and Mary and James Pahl, De Pere and their daughter, Heather. Doris is survived by a sister, La Verne Treml; two brothers, Vincent Van Remortel and Donald (Mary Jane) Van Remortel; and a sister-in-law, Marie Van Remortel, all of De Pere. She is also survived by many godchildren, nephews and nieces, and other extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, last October; four sisters, Viola and her husband, Tony Bangert, Esther and her husband, Clarence Gullickson, Della Wilson; an infant sister, Ruby; one brother, Victor Van Remortel; a brother-in-law, Felix Treml; and a sister-in-law, Janet Van Remortel.
Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 13, at Old St. Joseph Catholic Church on the campus of St. Norbert College. Dorothy was born in Hollandtown on May 10, 19 16 daughter of the late William and Antoinette (Josephs) Fink. On Decemb er 28, 1932 Dorothy married Robert Nushart in Hollandtown; he preceded h er in death on August 17, 1979. For many years, Dorothy worked as the he ad cook at the Kaukauna Elks Lodge, and later supervised the delicatess en at Larry's Market. Many will remember her as an excellent cook and supe rb homemaker. Agnes A. "Ag" Liebergen, age 95, of Wrightstown, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2016. The daughter of the late William and Antoinette Fink was born April 12, 1921. After attending St. Francis School in Woodville, she married Nestor Liebergen in 1940 in Hollandtown. She was a teller at the Forest Junction Bank for many years before retiring. Agnes enjoyed playing cards, reading, crossword puzzles, fishing and gambling. She was a member of St. Clare Parish-St. Patrick Site.
Survivors include her children: Roger (Kay) Liebergen, Ronald (Lois) Liebergen, Romae Van Handel, Roy (Carol) Liebergen, grandchildren, great-grandchildren; half-sister: Ruth (Walter) Ver Haagh; a special friend Barney Driessen and his family; as well as nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Agnes was preceded in death by her husband Nestor in 1992; son Richard Liebergen; son-in-law Alois; siblings: Earl Fink, Sylvester Fink, Elmer Fink, Dorothy Nushart, Florance Jirkowic and Mabel McKinley; half-brother: Robert Fink.
Family and friends may visit at St. Katharine Drexel Parish-St. Francis Site, 433 Cty Road CE, Hollandtown (Kaukauna), on Tuesday, November 29, from 9:00am until 10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am Tuesday with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Askeaton. Clarence J. "Clancy" Fink, 75, Auburndale, died on Friday, April 9, 2010, at his home in the Town of Day. Mr. Fink was born on March 15, 1935, in Ashwaubenon, Wis., to Frank and Cecelia (Verbryggan) Fink. He had been employed at International Papers in Kaukauna for 42 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club.
He married Jane Hoersch Bongers on April 25, 1997, in Appleton. Clancy enjoyed retirement very much and was a talented carpenter and handyman and had numerous, numerous projects. He also enjoyed gardening, nature, his Cub Cadets and had a passion for winemaking.
He is survived by his wife, Jane; his children, April Fink, Appleton, and her mother, Shirley Fink; Keith (Donna) Fink, Hortonville, and their children, Heather and Mariah; and Craig Fink, Appleton, and his children, Dakcota and Branden. He is also survived by Jane's daughter, Tanya (Jason) White, Stevens Point, and their children, Kylee, Ayden and Ayric. He is further survived by a sister, Arlene (Charles) Renn, Tomahawk; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Paula and Wayne Micke and Mary Kay Schneider, all of Brillion; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; siblings, Harold, Don and Bob Fink, Loretta Andrews and Mariel LaPlante; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ben and Jeanette Hoersch; and a brother-in-law, Gil Schneider.

Lillian Mae Martin, 89, of Greenleaf died Sunday, November 3, 2013 at St. Paul's Home in Kaukauna.
The daughter of the late Stephen and Agnes (Ver Bruggen) Fink was born June 1, 1924 in De Pere, WI. She was united in marriage to Robert J. Martin on June 5, 1946 at St. Boniface Church in De Pere. They enjoyed 58 years of wedded bliss. Lillian passed away on Robert's birthday.
Lillian loved to garden, read - her favorite book was Indian Nations, bake, sew, and make quilts with Robert. They enjoyed canning together, going on car rides and going to dances. Lillian celebrated her 70th class reunion from Nicolet High School this summer. She will always be remembered for her witty one-liners, her love of family and her love of our golden retriever, Riley.
Lillian was a loving wife and mother of 11 children, 26 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 8 step-grandchildren. Georgiana "Georgie" W. Nuthals, Green Bay, formerly of West De Pere, found peace Saturday evening, May 16, 2015, following a long illness with her family at her side while at a local nursing home. Born May 17, 1926, in West De Pere, she is the daughter of the late Steve and Agnes (VerBruggen) Fink. Georgie married Wayne Nuthals on Sept. 26, 1946, at St. Boniface Church in West De Pere and the couple then resided in Green Bay. Wayne preceded her in death on Dec. 7, 1976. After his passing, Georgie worked for a brief time at St. Vincent Hospital. She was a long-time member of Saints Peter and Paul Parish and taught CCD for a while. Georgie will be remembered for her enjoyment of sewing, gardening, painting and her appreciation for the great outdoors. She was a dedicated wife and mother, known for her kindness and love of animals. Also, Georgie always treasured her time spent with her precious grandchildren.

Wayne Alvin Fink, age 86, of Weyauwega, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2011. He was born in the Town of Wolf River on August 20, 1924, to Edwin and Martha Fink (Krenke). Wayne was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church-Wisconsin Synod in East Bloomfield, on August 24, 1924. He grew up in that area and later moved to Weyauwega. Wayne attended St. Peter Lutheran Elementary School. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church (WELS), where he was confirmed in the Christian faith and remained a lifelong member.
Wayne proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Army; he was stationed in Korea. On September 28, 1947, he married the love of his life, Verona Behnke, in Manawa, WI. Early in their marriage Wayne worked for Louie Lautenschlager's filling station and Ray Akey's Shell. He then drove milk truck for Wagner's Weyauwega Milk Products for many years. Wayne and Verona enjoyed yearly vacations visiting her sister and her family in Illinois, and in retirement they enjoyed taking day trips throughout the state with Verona's brothers.
Wayne always looked forward to spending time with family. He especially enjoyed playing card games at the Behnke family farm, and more recently at Crystal River Nursing Home where Verona has resided the last few years. Wayne also loved watching the Brewers on TV. He was a devoted husband and Wayne and Verona would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this year.
He is survived by his loving wife, Verona; two daughters, Patricia (Daniel) Waller, Waupaca, and Susan (Willie) Bynum, Milwaukee; one son, Mark (Marcia) Fink, Weyauwega; seven grandchildren, Lori (Dmitri) Martin, Chad (Rachel) Waller, Sara (Rafael) Connemara, Billy (Autumn) Bynum, Mallory (Sean McNulty) Fink, LanaBeth (Michael) Baerenwald, and Charles Fink; four great-grandchildren, Dhara Martin, Makenna Bynum, Elias Connemara and expected Baby Baerenwald.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Al Stelter; a stepbrother, Arnie Stelter; his brothers- and sisters-in-law; and a granddaughter, Haley Fink.
Wayne loved his Lord and Savior and his family with all his heart. He will be greatly missed. "Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life." Revelation 2:10.

Phyllis T. Mueller, age 70, passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at Colony Oaks Care Center. She was born on July 6, 1940, in Green Bay; daughter of the late Francis and Alice (Loderbauer) Fink. Phyllis worked for many years at Copps grocery store in Appleton. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo, especially with the friends she made at Golden Venture in Kaukauna.
She is survived by her son, Scott (Chris) Mueller, Luxemburg, WI; and her brother, Ronald (Patricia) Fink and his children. She was preceded in death by her best friends: her parents. According to Phyllis' wishes, no services are being held.

Gregory J. Coenen, of Glastonbury, CT, age 58, found peace with the Lord on June 23, 2008, after a courageous and spiritual journey with cancer. He was loving father of Tom Coenen and Tim (Ann) Coenen, and proud grandfather to Aaron Gregory Coenen (born May 7, 2008), all of Chicago. Greg was preceded in death by his wife Margaret "Peg" Coenen (nee Morrison) who died January 12, 2005. Greg loved Peg at first sight, and their love was at the center of his life for 33 years.
Greg is survived by parents: Clayton and LaVerne Coenen, Appleton, WI; brothers: Clifford and Paul Coenen, Appleton, WI; Dan Coenen, Athens, GA; Doug Coenen, Richboro, PA; sisters: Amy Coenen and Beth Strohbusch of Milwaukee, WI; and brother-in-law Michael Morrison, Minerva, OH. Greg is also survived by Marie Hersman, Dover, NH, whose love and wisdom helped make Greg's life complete during recent years.
Greg was born July 21, 1949, in Madison, WI, and lived in Appleton and Milwaukee, WI, Warwick, RI, and Glastonbury, CT. He was significantly shaped by his experience of and reflection upon all around him, including family and faith life, political and world affairs, business experiences, travel, and day-to-day living.
Greg was a Marquette University graduate. As editor of "New Day," a Model Cities newspaper, Greg had a knack for identifying and celebrating ordinary Milwaukeeans who made extraordinary contributions to city life. As manager of publications and information for the Milwaukee Department of City Development, he took pride in his roles in developing Summerfest, Grand Avenue and 'The Spirit of Milwaukee' multimedia production. After moving to New England, Greg played a significant part in creating New England USA, a regional tourism bureau, and Heritage Harbor, a planned state history museum for Rhode Island. He directed the New London (CT) Development Corporation, a planning and economic development agency, and also served as a consultant in planning the Milwaukee County Research Park and in developing Wisconsin State Fair Park as a year-round destination.
Greg recently wrote this: "There are three critical human values that should guide our every move. The first value is love which must guide all. The second value is respect which should be at the root of all we do. The third value is recognition of human dignity. We must always share the dignity that is especially ours. In cherishing and perfecting these values, we will make the world a better place for us all."

COENEN, Thomas M. Age 62, Menasha, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Cherry Meadows. He was born April 24, 1952, the son of the late William and Helen (Brown) Coenen.
Tom enjoyed fishing, playing softball and his Brewers, Packers and Badgers. It was a 30 year tradition for him to host Packer games at his home. He enjoyed the company of and spending time with many friends. He loved his nieces and nephews and often played sports with them during family occasions.
His survivors include two brothers: William Coenen, Jr, Menasha and Patrick (Julie) Coenen of Waupaca; three sisters: Connie (Bob) Roessler, Florida, Jill (Tom) Van Beek, Appleton and Lisa (Bill) Gaffney of Menasha. Tom is further survived by his Goddaughter Sara Otto, many nieces and nephews other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by two sisters; Linda Hansen and Jan Dawson and a brother Michael Coenen.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 17, 2014; 324 Nicolet Blvd, Menasha with Father Jim Hablewitz officiating . Michael E. Coenen, age 52, passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2007, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. He was born on September 4, 1955, son of the late William and Helen (Brown) Coenen. Mike was a veteran and served in the United States Army. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family, and watching the Packers and the Brewers. Mike especially loved helping the members at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King were he worked as an LPN for over nine years.

Jan Mary Coenen Dawson, age 56, of Cambridge, WI, formerly of Menasha, passed away unexpectedly on March 15, 2014.
Jan was born in Neenah, WI on March 27, 1957, to the late William and Helen (Brown) Coenen. She graduated from Menasha High School in 1975, and continued on to receive a Bachelor's degree from UW-Oshkosh, and an Associate's degree from MATC.
Jan was married to James Dawson on May 6th, 1989; they would have celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary this year.
Jan worked as a Computer Programmer for Great Lakes Higher Education Corporation for approximately 30 years. She enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with family, and watching her daughter, Kelly swim and perform in plays, recitals and concerts. Jan was involved in her church, and she and Kelly rang bells for the Salvation Army every year.
Jan is survived by her husband, Jimmy Dawson and her daughter, Kelly Dawson. She is also survived by her brothers, William Coenen Jr, and Thomas Coenen, both of Menasha; and Patrick (Julie) Coenen of Waupaca;. her sisters, Connie (Bob) Roessler of Fort Myers, FL; Lisa (Bill) Gaffney of Menasha; and her twin sister; Jill (Tom) Van Beek of Appleton. Jan is further survived by Jimmy's sisters, Barb (Bill) Ramstack, and Marti (Jim) Banister, Chandler, AZ; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews whom Jan loved with all her heart. Jan is also survived by many wonderful friends and family members and she will be dearly missed.

She graduated from Kaukauna high School in 1952. Joyce married Ralph 'Sparky' Sanders in December of 1973 and he preceded her in death in 2004. Joyce worked for KC as a secretary for many years until her retirement. She and Ralph were members of St. John Catholic Church in Menasha. Joyce enjoyed spending time at the VFW and was an avid Packer fan.
Survivors include her sister, Joan (Gerald) Sell, White Lake, WI and their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by Ralph's three sons and their families.

Carol Vander Velden, Green Bay, age 74, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, September 23, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. Carol was born in Kaukauna on January 12, 1936, daughter of the late Robert and Dorothy (Fink) Nushart. On June 2, 1955, she married Joseph Van Eyck. Later, on October 6, 1972, Carol married Greg Vander Velden. Greg preceded her in death in 2004. In her younger years, Carol worked at Badger Northland in Kaukauna, a job she really loved. Later she worked as a switchboard operator and receptionist at St. Mary and St. Vincent Hospitals in Green Bay. Carol enjoyed spending time outdoors camping and hunting with Greg, but most of all she will be remembered as an avid Badger and Packer fan.
She also treasured time spent with her family: Rob (Patti) Van Eyck, Kathy Van Eyck, and Joe (Lori) Van Eyck, all of Green Bay; her step-children: Cindy (Russ) Forseth of South Carolina and Pam (Joe) Sturm of Appleton; her grandchildren: Tiffani Van Eyck Burkard, Marissa Van Eyck, and Makenna Van Eyck; step-great-grandchildren: Jennifer, Sarah, Violette, Emily, Elissa, Travis, and Troy; three great-grandchildren: Katy, Bradley, and Aiden; eight step-grandchildren; a brother: Cliff (Suzie) Nushart of Greenleaf; and a sister-in-law: Mary Lou Nushart of Alaska.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Greg Vander Velden, her former husband Joe Van Eyck, a brother Ken Nushart, and a nephew Kip Nushart.
The funeral liturgy for Carol will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH (St. Mary's Church) 119 W. 7th Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Tuesday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

Lee Fink, 65, died May 18, 2011, at his home in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church followed by burial in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Mr. Fink was a retired respiratory therapist with Rankin Medical Center, a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He loved spending time with his family and friends, deer hunting, home improvements and restoring antique cars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester J. and Rita C. Fink.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Fink of Hattiesburg; daughter and son-in-law, Kristie and John Carl of Orange Beach, Ala.; sons and daughters-in-law, Sean and Judy Fink of Hattiesburg, Douglas and Peaches Fink of Mobile; sisters, Avita (Clayton) Baumgart and Marian (Paul) Van DeHey; brothers, Harlan (Connie) Fink and Denis (Connie) Fink; grandchildren, Joshua Fink, Megan Fink, Dylan Fink, Lacie Fink, Benjamin Fink, Jacob Fink, Alissa Fink, John Carl Jr., Sarah Carl, Bernadette Carl, Lucy Carl, Cecilia Carl, James Carl and Bridget Carl; and his puppy, PJ.
Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday 9-10:15 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday.

John G. Arnoldussen, Kaukauna, age 75, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014 at Appleton Medical Center. He was born August 16, 1938 to the late Ivo and Marie (Fink) Arnoldussen. On February 15, 1958 he was united in marriage to Carol Meyer and together they celebrated 44 years of marriage. John was employed at Thilmany Paper Co. for over 40 years until his retirement and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. John was an avid fisherman, liked playing cards and enjoyed his volunteer work at Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry.
He is survived by his four children: Tim (Lori), Pam (Kevin) Schaffer, Mike (Barb), and Mark; six grandchildren: Kristin (Eric) Destrampe, Kari (Jason) Londo, Craig (Tina) Huisman, Jessica (Alex) Nevermann, Tara (Nick) Rooyakkers, Joy Arnoldussen; four great-grandchildren: Kyleigh, Drew, Aubrey, and McKenzie; two sisters and four brothers: Jean Buchinger, Dianne (Floyd)) Kempen, Dan (Sue), Jim (Sue), Cliff, and Paul (April). He is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carol and a brother-in-law, Richard Buchinger.
Mass of Christian Burial for John will be at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH at ST. ALOYSIUS CHURCH, 2401 Main Ave., Kaukauna with Fr.
