I'm still working on the history of our village, especially about the emigrants. A list of the emigrants from Hausten and Morswiesen you will find enclose on my website www.familyresearch.de .
I saw at the internet that your have a lot of information of the emigrant Michael Klein. He emigrated with his family and his brother Mathias in 1842. I kne w that they settled at Garner's Landing.
At the moment I'm writing a report about the emigration from Hausten and Morswiesen. This report has the following two sections:
a) - the reasons and the requirement for the emigration - an account of the emigrants journey
b) special information of each emigrant from Hausten and Morswiesen
For the section b) I need your help.
In the meantime I changed a lot of information with the descendantsof the emigrants. With their (your) help I could write a little familystory of each emigrant. The extracts of Anton and Nicolaus Klapperich you will find enclose.I'm looking for pictures, letters, documents (copy of a traveler-passor declaration of intent) and other information (report about their journey or about the act of settling).
After the emigration a lot of the emigrants had contact to their relatives in Germany. But it isn't easy to find some letters or something else because after a few time the people in Germany threw those things away. Their relativesin the USA collected these things because it was a memory at their home town.I hope to get some copies of these letters, too. It will be great if I cou ldget a print of an original picture of an emigrant and his family. I write this report in the German and English language because the peoplewho changed information with me are interested in a copy of the report. Today nearly 360 citizens are living in the village Hausten/Morswiesen but
the family name Klein you won't find anymore. If there is something I could do for you please, send me a message. I could close some gaps in your family tree because during the last yea rs I
collectedall the dates from each family in Hausten and Morswiesen (1702 - 1899) and
now I'able to connect all these families.

Michael and Mary Gertrude Grohs came to this country in the spring of 1842 from Prussia Germany near the Rhine. They settled in Darboy about half a mile north from where the church is. There were ten German families and three single men, John and Jacob Schneider and Mathew Klein. Mathew was my grandfather's brother. He was younger than my grandfather; seemed he was staying with my grandparents , so they paid Mathew's fare and their own. Mathew paid his fare back to my grandfather. Later on they paid for their land, bought a barrel of flour and had $4.00 left. Grandfather went to Green Bay to work, got twenty five cents a day don't know what work he did there. He was a carpenter by trade. Another man from Darboy went with him to Green Bay to work. Sometimes on Sunday one or the other would walk home to Darboy to see how the family was getting along. My grandmother was alone with the children and there were Indians and wild animals around. My grandfather carried some flour from Green Bay to Darboy, don't know how many pounds. Grandfather's brother worked in Green Bay too. He was handy at setting and filing saws. He worked at saw mill and had to take half his wages in merchandise. Must have been a general store. There first house was built of logs. They had to get it up in a hurry. I suppose one side of the house was a hill. Later on they built another one. There was no church at Darboy or Sherwood. The grandparents Schaefer used to walk down to my grandparents sometimes on Saturdays and stay night at my grandparents, then in the morning they didn't have so far to go. There was a church at Little Chute but no bridge across the river. Someone used to take them across with a boat. I heard he charged fife cents. One time my father went to Little Chute for Christian Doctrine. He walked across the ice, but when he was ready to go home he had to go to Kaukauna because he could not walk across the ice any more. After they built their house, they put in some turnips. I guess it was too late for anything else and not much land was ready for cultivation either. So they had turnips and they bought peas from Joseph La Mure settled in Darboy in 1838 or 1839 and they had more land in cultivation, so he raised peas. He was a Canadian Frenchman and his wife was a fullblooded Menominee Indian. They had four children, two boys. One's name was William. He was Mrs. Martin Speel's father and his wife was part Indian. I don't know the other boy's name. The two girls were Mrs. Jerbes and Mrs. Creviere.

MICHAEL KLEIN Was born in Germany in 1803; came to Outagamie county in 1842, and settled on Sec. 32 in the town of Buchanan. In 1834 he married Maria Gross, who was born in 1812. Children, Peter, born in 1835, now lives in Minnesota; John P, born in 1837, now lives in the state of Washington; Mathias, born in 1839, lives near Appleton ; Mary Kline Marks, now lives in Menasha; Joseph, born in 1846, lives in Kaukauna; Michael, born in 1848, lives in Buchanan; Jacob, born in 1850, lives in Kaukauna; Catherine Kline Baum, born in 1853, lives in Appleton.

Biography:
See Bio in Pioneers of Outagamie County Lists he came to US with his brother Matthias Klein, Matthew Ortz, John Dietzler, Peter Hauser, Peter Shoemaker, Nick Pauly and Peter Heinz in 1842. Listed he was born in Germany in 1803 and died 1889. Married to Anna Mary Goff in 1834.

JOSEPH KLINE is proprietor of the far-famed flourishing flouring-mill in Kaukauna bearing his name, and which is admirably situated on the Kaukauna Water Power Company's canal. He is a native of Outagamie county, Wis., born in 1846, within three miles of Kaukauna, in what is now Buchanan township, a son of Michael and Mary (Gross) Kline. The parents were married in Germany, and in the spring of 1842, together with their then family of four children, emigrated to the United States, coming westward to Wisconsin, where they settled in Kaukauna township, some three miles southeast of the present city of Kaukauna. Here the father bought forty acres of wild land, to which purchase he from time to time added land obtained from the government, until at the time of his death, in 1888, he owned 120 acres, all well improved. In politics he was a Democrat, and in religious faith he was a member of the Catholic Church, as is his widow, who is now living in Kaukauna at the age of eighty-three years. They were the parents of ten children, as follows: Peter, who lives near Sauk Center, Minn. ; John P., living in the State of Washington; Mathias, residing near Appleton, Wis. ; Mary, wife of Joseph Marks, of Menasha; Joseph, our subject; Michael and Jacob, both residing in Kaukauna; John, who was killed by lightning; Catherine, Mrs. John Baum, of Appleton; and Catherine, who died when twelve years old. Joseph Kline, the subject proper of this sketch, received his education in the old log schoolhouse of the neighborhood of his boyhood home, and assisted in clearing up his father's farm, experiencing all the hardships incident to pioneer life. For six years his father had no team, and everything about the farm had to be done by hand in a very primitive manner. Flour, and whatever other necessaries of life were required, they had to carry on their backs from Green Bay (the nearest town), the beaten track being simply an Indian trail. One entire winter the family lived on oil peas, so impossible was it to tramp to Green Bay for supplies. In 1870 Joseph Kline and Anna Faas were united in marriage. She is a daughter of Joseph and Margaretta Faas, natives of Alsace, Germany, who in an early day came to this country, for a time locating in Calumet county, Wis., where Mr. Faas followed his trade, that of wagon-maker. Later they moved to Neenah, same State, where he died; his widow is now residing in Menasha. After marriage Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kline settled in Kaukauna, North Side, where he engaged in teaming and dealing in flour and other mill products. In 1883 he erected his present flour-mill, a four-story frame building, 40 x 60 feet, which he equipped with all modern improvements in machinery and other plant, being thoroughly adapted for a general milling business, including the manufacture of flour and feed, and he has met with the most encouraging success. At that time he was owner of eighty acres of land on the South Side, Kaukauna, and same year he platted an addition to the city, called Kline's Addition. The pretty bit of woodland, know as Kline's Park, forms part of his land, and he still owns considerable real estate, including many desirable building sites. Prior to his embarking in the milling business, our subject read law three years in the office of Humphrey Pierce in Appleton.
To Mr. and Mrs. Kline have been born two children viz. : Anna, wife of Gerhart Tenburch, of Duluth, Minn., and Ollie, at home. The entire family are members of the Catholic Church, Mr. Klein being also a member of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin; politically he is a Democrat. He is a typical self-made man, having risen to his present position of comparative affluence by sheer industry, good judgment and close attention to business. Page 650

Michael and Mary Gertrude Grohs came to this country in the spring of 1842 from Prussia Germany near the Rhine. They settled in Darboy about half a mile north from where the church is. There were ten German families and three single men, John and Jacob Schneider and Mathew Klein. Mathew was my grandfather's brother. He was younger than my grandfather; seemed he was staying with my grandparents , so they paid Mathew's fare and their own. Mathew paid his fare back to my grandfather. Later on they paid for their land, bought a barrel of flour and had $4.00 left. Grandfather went to Green Bay to work, got twenty five cents a day don't know what work he did there. He was a carpenter by trade. Another man from Darboy went with him to Green Bay to work. Sometimes on Sunday one or the other would walk home to Darboy to see how the family was getting along. My grandmother was alone with the children and there were Indians and wild animals around. My grandfather carried some flour from Green Bay to Darboy, don't know how many pounds. Grandfather's brother worked in Green Bay too. He was handy at setting and filing saws. He worked at saw mill and had to take half his wages in merchandise. Must have been a general store. There first house was built of logs. They had to get it up in a hurry. I suppose one side of the house was a hill. Later on they built another one. There was no church at Darboy or Sherwood. The grandparents Schaefer used to walk down to my grandparents sometimes on Saturdays and stay night at my grandparents, then in the morning they didn't have so far to go. There was a church at Little Chute but no bridge across the river. Someone used to take them across with a boat. I heard he charged fife cents. One time my father went to Little Chute for Christian Doctrine. He walked across the ice, but when he was ready to go home he had to go to Kaukauna because he could not walk across the ice any more. After they built their house, they put in some turnips. I guess it was too late for anything else and not much land was ready for cultivation either. So they had turnips and they bought peas from Joseph La Mure settled in Darboy in 1838 or 1839 and they had more land in cultivation, so he raised peas. He was a Canadian Frenchman and his wife was a fullblooded Menominee Indian. They had four children, two boys. One's name was William. He was Mrs. Martin Speel's father and his wife was part Indian. I don't know the other boy's name. The two girls were Mrs. Jerbes and Mrs. Creviere.

PETER KLEIN Peter Klein, 82, 1519 S. Jefferson street, died about 0 o'clock Friday evening at his home after an illness of about eight months. He was born June 29. 1856, in the town of Buchanan and had been a resident of Appleton nearly all his life. Survivors are the widow: three sons, the Rev. Robert J. Klein, Littie Chute; Lawrence Klein, Appleton: and Mcdard Klein. Chicago; three sisters, Mrs. Dora Welbes and Mrs. Wenzel Langenberg. Appleton, and Miss Elizabeth Klein, Green Bay. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 Monday morning at the Schommer Funeral home and at 10 o'clock at the Sacred Heart Catholic church. Fr. Klein, assistant pastor of St. John church. Little Chute, will be in charge. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery. Prayer services will be held at 8 o'clock Saturday and Sunday evenings at the funeral home. The body will be at the funeral home from this evening until the time of the funeral.

Biography:
JOSEPH KLEIN, whose life has been spent in agricultural pursuits on the farm of 160 acres on which he now resides in section 29, Buchanan township, was born on this property December 12, 1872, and is a son of Matt and Anna M. (Roerig) Klein, the former a native of Germany and the latter of Wisconsin. They were married in this State, immediately thereafter buying eighty acres of land in Buchanan township, at that time covered with timber, and Klein first cut down trees, hewed them into logs and built a small house, and here he continued to work at clearing and cultivating and from time to time adding to his property, until his retirement in the fall of 1909, since which time he and Mrs. Klein have lived in Appleton, he having reached the age of seventy-one years and she being sixty-three. Eight of their ten children are living, and of these Joseph was the second in order of birth. He received a district school education and worked for his father until nearly twenty-eight years of age, when he began working for wages and so continued for five months. He was married April 9, 1901, to Miss Frances Feypel, daughter of Michael and Catherine (Victor) Feypel, natives of Belgium, where Mrs. Klein was also born, March 12, 1879. They came to America in 1895 and settled in Appleton, but after five years moved to Dorchester, where they are now engaged in farming eighty acres of land, Mr. Feypel having reached the age of fifty-eight and his wife fifty-six years. Seven children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Klein, of whom five are living: Frances, Michael, Chrecentia, Matthew and Rosella. Mr. Klein has 110 acres under the plow, all fenced with barbed wire, and he does general farming and markets dairy products, hay and grain. In politics he is a Democrat, and he has served as a member of the school board for one term. He and his family are members of the Catholic Church of Kimberly, Buchanan township.

Joseph Marx, 67, for thirty years a resident of the town of Reitbrock, died at his home at 8 o'clock last evening after an illness of one year. The funeral will be held Thursday from the Holy Trinity Catholic church at Poniatowski, the Rev. Florian Kupka officiating.
The deceased was born March 12, 1868, in Harrison Township Calumet county, a son of Joseph and Mary Klein Marx, where he was married to Katherine Horn on May 14, 1895 at St. John Church, St. John. Surviving are the widow, three children, Jake Marx and Mrs. Marie Dellenbach at home and Mrs. Gabe Metz of Wausau; also six brothers, Matthew Marx of Menasha, John and Peter Marx of Milwaukee, Henry and William Marx of Appleton and Nick Marx of St. Louis, Missouri. He was a member of St. Joseph's society of Poniatowski.

Biography:
HENRY N. MARX, who is well known in the jewelry trade in Wisconsin, is the owner of a modern establishment situated at Appleton. He was born in Calumet county, Wisconsin, December 26, 1879, and is a son of Joseph and Mary (Kline) Marx, the former a native of Germany, and the latter of Wisconsin. As a young man Joseph Marx came to the United States, and was engaged in farming in Calumet county until his removal to Winnebago county in 1891, and he and Mrs. Marx are now living in the city of Menasha. They had a family of eleven children, nine boys and two girls, and all are still living. Henry N. Marx received his education in the public schools and the parochial school at Menasha, in which city he learned the trade of jeweler, working for C. R. Kiel for about ten months. He then came to Appleton, and during the next ten years was engaged in business here, eight years being spent with H. A. Kamps Company, Mr. Marx having an interest in the business. In August, 1910, he opened his present store here, and now carries a full line of jewelry and supplies, and also does high class repairing. 'His store is situated at No. 738 College avenue, and he has built up an excellent trade. On May 21, 1907, Mr. Marx was united in marriage with Miss Mary Margaret Stier, a daughter of Joseph and Margaret Stier, and they have had a son and a daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Marx are members of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, anrd Mr. Marx is connected with the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Order of Foresters and St. Joseph's Society .

REVERSE DECISION IN PULPWOOD CASE
Supreme Court Dismisses Judgment Against Little Rapids Company
The state supreme,court today reversed in part, a jury verdict in Judge Edgar V. Werner's circuit court here on May I8, 1931, when John Kline, Kaukauna pulpwood dealer, was awarded damages of $6,- 835.33 from the Little Rapids Pulp company. The jury verdict was set aside and one part of the suit was sent back to the court here for-trial. Kline claimed he purchased 50 share of common stock and 15 shares of preferred stock in the company after an oral agreement with D.L.. Thompson, president of the firm, that the company would give him an option of the sale of wood to the company as long as he was a stockholder, at regular market rates plus a commission of 40 cents per cord. The suit originally was against both Thompson and the company, but Thompson was dismissed as a defendant. The pulp company claimed there was no contract with Thompson, while Kline claimed the company failed to live up to its agreement. The supreme court held there was no agreement between Kline and Thompson and that if there had been it would not be binding on the firm. The court sent bark one portion of the case, involving commissions on about 2.000 chords of wood, for a new trial. It pointed out that there had been no decision by the lower court on this matter.

Biography:
Medard Klein (1905-2002):
Medard Klein, a significant non-representational artist of the 1930s and 1940s, was born in 1905 in Appleton, Wisconsin. In 1926, he moved to Chicago and attended the Art Institute of Chicago studying under Edmund Giesber, the National Academy of Design studying under Audubon Tyler, and the Chicago Studio School of Art under the muralist John W. Norton.
During his academic studies Klein focused on graphic work, but he excelled in all media and later taught himself the use of oil, watercolor, gouache and pastel, among other techniques. He was a greatly experimental artist, which led him to develop his own form of photographic printing called the "Lumiprint" in the 1940s. A Lumiprint is produced through painting onto acetate, which creates a painted negative that is exposed to photographic paper in a darkroom.
Throughout his career, Klein was interested in abstraction and non-objective images. His compositions contain geometric elements and expressive colors that evoke rhythmic movement and appeal to the senses. He was strongly influenced by classical music, and many of his images were visual interpretations of the music of Bach, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Bartok.

In the 1940s Klein began to exhibit at the Museum of Non-Objective Painting, known today as the Guggenheim Museum, one of the most important venues of non-representational painting in the United States at the time. He also exhibited his work at the Art Institute of Chicago, the San Francisco Museum of Fine Arts, the National Academy of Design, the Library of Congress, the Philadelphia Print Club and the Addison Gallery of American Art, among others. In 1948, he exhibited his work in Paris at the "Realites Nouvelles" exhibition--one of the most comprehensive surveys of non-representational art in Europe in the 1940s.

Probate:
Medard died without a will. The State of Illinois appointed an administrator (read lawyer) to disburse the estate (1/3 to the Kleins, 1/3 to the Muhl-Meehl-Muehl's + 1/3 to administration). Nicholas Klein's descendants received 1/7 of 1/3 or 1/21. Elizabeth Klein's descendants received 1/4 of 1/21 or a 1/84 share.
Some distant relatives received sums as little as $100.

Anna Marie Roeland, age 101, of Appleton, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2012 at Appleton Health Care Center. She was born on June 11, 1910 in Mackville, the oldest child of Andrew and Catherine (Klein) Gengler. Anna married John Roeland at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Appleton on June 14, 1937. They shared 49 years together before his death in 1986.
Anna was employed at Kimberly Clark from 1930 until 1940 and at Lawrence University from 1952 until 1975. After her retirement, she volunteered at St. Elizabeth Hospital for many years. Anna was a very strong and independent woman and was able to remain in her home until she was over 100 years old with help from family, friends, and neighbors. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Appleton.
Anna is survived by her children: Jacqueline (Richard) Casperson and Richard (Rosalie) Roeland; grandchildren: Karen (Chuck) Farah, Jon (Shari) Huhn, Mark (Kim) Huhn, Ellen (Al) Bock, Robert Roeland and Daniel (Jen) Roeland; great-grandchildren: Alex and Abby Farah, Michelle Huhn, Molly Huhn, Emily (Kurt) McCabe, Jared Crego, Lukas Roeland, Sara and Kate Roeland; step-grandchildren: John (Wendy Capelli) Casperson and Rob (Merry) Casperson; step great-grandchildren: Llana Crego, Nicole Witter, Ashly Casperson, Alex Sauer and Mitchell Casperson; also four step great-great grandchildren. She is further survived by two sisters: Helen Schommer and Rita (Patrick) Roche, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; sisters: Marcella "Sally" (Robert) Schmidt, Rose (Hubert "Butch") Mueller and Genevieve Gengler; brother: Lawrence (Georgine) Gengler and brothers-in-law: Merle Schommer and Herbert (Priscilla) Roeland.
The funeral liturgy for Anna will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, 222 E. Fremont Street, Appleton. Fr. Tony Ibekwe will be officiating. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 am until the time of mass.
The family would like to thank Anna's caregivers and friends at Appleton Health Care Center and ThedaCare Hospice for their kindness and compassion.

Rose Johanna Mueller, age 98, of Appleton, died peacefully in her home surrounded by her beloved and loving family on Sunday morning, August 7, 2011. Rose was born at home on the family farm in Mackville on March 27, 1913, the third oldest of seven children of the late Andrew and Catherine (Klein) Gengler. She married Hubert "Butch" Mueller at St. Edward Catholic Church in Mackville on February 26, 1938; he preceded her in death. Rose lived most of her adult life in Appleton. In Rose's younger days she loved to dance and would travel the countryside with her sisters, brother and friends to the ballrooms and barn dances. For recreation she would take her children and later her grandchildren for walks. She liked to go camping with her family and she was also an avid reader. Above all else, she loved her children and grandchildren. Genevieve Catherine Gengler, age 89, died peacefully on Sunday, March 6, 2011, at Appleton Health Care Center. Genevieve was born December 22, 1921, in Appleton, the daughter of the late Andrew and Catherine (Klein) Gengler. Genevieve was formerly employed with General Motors in Milwaukee. During WWII she made rivets and assisted in the war effort at defense plants in Milwaukee and in California. She was a self-taught musician who enjoyed playing the piano and accordion also traveling and dancing.
She is lovingly survived by her four sisters, Anna Roeland, Appleton; Rose Mueller, Appleton; Helen Schommer, Freedom; Rita (Patrick) Roche, Appleton; twenty-four nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Genevieve was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Gengler, a sister, Marcella Schmidt, four brothers-in-law, Merle Schommer, John Roeland, Hubert Mueller and Robert Schmidt, and a sister-in-law, Georgine Gengler.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011, at St. Edward Catholic Church, N2926 State Road 47, Mackville, with Deacon Ray Ambrosius officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Edward Catholic Cemetery. Genevieve's family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service. A memorial fund is being established for St. Edward Catholic Church.

Rosemary Erickson (Marx), died on December 14th, 3 days short of her 99th birthday She was born on Dec 17th 1914 in Appleton, the youngest daughter of Henry & Mary(Stier) Marx. She married Carl Erickson on Oct 12, 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1964. Rosemary attended Lawrence College and the Actual Business College. She was employed at Wisconsin Michigan Power Company and in later years various local insurance offices retiring in 1979. She was a member of St Therese Catholic Church, Christian Ladies of St Therese and an active member and volunteer at Thompson Community Center. She enjoyed bowling and golf well into her 80's and continued to play bridge till age 97. She was an avid Packer and Cub fan.
Survivors are her daughter Lynn (Steve) Kiser Appleton, 2 sons Charley Erickson San Raphael CA, and David Erickson Stoneham MA, Grandchildren Robin (Don) Coolidge Appleton, Michael (Mutsumi) Siddall, Minneapolis MN, & Meghan Siddall Westminster CO. She also had 3 step grandchildren from her husband Carl's first marriage Richard, Debra and Barbara Erickson. There are 7 great grandchildren. Obituary:
Mark M. Grafmeier, 97, De Pere, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday morning, May 3, 2015. The son of the late John and Margaret "Maggie" (Klein) Grafmeier was born on July 5, 1917 in Kaukauna, WI. One of Mark's early jobs was that of a milkman, delivering the milk with a team of horses. This started a lifelong love of horses that would always be with him. He especially enjoyed horse pulling, and was a judge of equine events. As a young man, Mark joined the US Navy, and was recruited as a Sea Bee, operating heavy equipment and helping to make military runways. He also was employed by the United Auto Workers as a Union Organizer which sent him to Lower Michigan. Upon his return to Wisconsin, Mark was employed by Brown County Highway Department as a heavy machinery operator until his retirement. In his retirement, he spent time in Florida, watching horse events and going to breakfasts with his friends, and enjoyed an occasional steak dinner with family.
Mark is survived by Dorothy "Sis" Grafmeier; two daughters, Karen Stuyvenberg, Kimberly, WI; Gail "Gigi" Bailey-Rahmlow (Bob Rahmlow), Maribel, WI; nine grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Harriet Smits; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lorraine Grafmeier; son-in-law, Gerald "Jerry" Stuyvenberg; a great granddaughter, Jenna; two brothers, Karl and Jack; as well as sisters-in-law, Ida and Betty.

He had served with the United State ds Navy during WWII. Jack married Elizabeth Weyenberg on October 2, 19 46 at St.John's Catholic Church, Little Chute. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Betty, his two children, Jean a nd John Timm, Darboy, John Grafmeier Jr., Kimberly, 7 grand-children, Chri s, Michelle, and Nicole Timm, Cathy, Brad, Andy and Jackie Friebel, a br other and a sister in-law Mark and Lorie Grafmeier Kaukauna, numerous niec es and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pat Friebel in 19 87 and a brother, Carl (Ida) Grafmeier.

Leroy J. Klein, 91, died Saturday evening, March 29, 2008, at Grand Horizons, Appleton. He was born Dec. 1, 1916, in Kimberly, the son of the late Joseph and Ann (Welhouse) Klein. On May 1, 1940, he married Kathryn Schwalbach at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Darboy, and enjoyed 50 years of marriage before her death in 1991. Leroy attended Kaukauna High School and worked at Thilmanys from 1940 until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of Holy Cross Parish, the Quarter Century Club, Kaukauna Elks Lodge and AARP.
He is survived by his daughters, Dorothy (Richard) Sheehy, Appleton; Kathleen (David) Schommer, Suamico; and Mary Lutzow, Appleton; six grandchildren, Carolyn (John) Machurick, Kaukauna; Jon (Wendy) Mueller, Appleton; Mark Schommer, Suamico; Amy (Jim) Vollmer, Green Bay; Stephanie Lutzow, Appleton; and Andy Lutzow, Appleton; six great-grandchildren, Max and Michaela Machurick, James and Alex Mueller, Alex Vollmer and Lily Lutzow; sisters-in-law, Irma Klein, Hortonville; Irma Wittman, Appleton; Sue Miller, Kimberly; and Lorraine Schwalbach, Little Chute; and brother-in-law, Joseph (Lilia) Schwalbach, Appleton. Leroy is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Sherman (Medina) Klein; Edward (Stella) Kline; and Cyril (Stella) (Schwalbach) Klein; sisters-in-law, Lucille (Carl) Grassl, Sr.; Alice (John) Dietzen; and Henrietta (Howard) Thiessen; and brother-in-law, George Schwalbach.
The funeral liturgy for Leroy will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street, Kaukauna, with Fr. Marty Fox officiating. Leroy will be laid to rest beside his wife, Kathryn, in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church at 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass.
